Family Violence

Watch four movies that address the issue of family violence. Select one from the 1980s (such as The Burning Bed, The Color Purple, A Cry for Help), one from the 1990s (such as Bastard Out of Carolina, Sleeping with the Enemy, What’s Love Got To Do with It, This Boy’s Life), one from the 2000s (such as Enough, The Gift), and one from an era of your choosing (could be before the 1980s or could be from the 1980s on).

Provide a very brief description of each film’s plot and focus on answering the following questions:

Knowledge Management Plan

The knowledge management plan can be focused on the student’s own organization or a selected case study firm . The intent of the plan is to develop recommended interventions for the organization, aimed at improving the organizations performance through more effective knowledge management. The target audience for the plan is the CEO and the executive leadership team of the organization.

The assessment will be based on:

1. The thoroughness of the analysis and synthesis of the organizational issues in developing the planned interventions.
2. The quality of the arguments supporting the recommended interventions

3. The recommended methods for implementing and sustaining the organizational changes that might accompany the knowledge management interventions

The knowledge management plan should be a minimum of 3,000 words and no more than 5,000 words.

Mainstream Media portrayal of ongoing attacks in Iraq

This essay will be examining everything from an Arab-centric perspective.
Basically the overarching theme of the essay is outlining the difference between how mainstream media e.g Fox News, CNN cover militant attacks in Iraq when the victim is a random civilian vs a NATO ally or even an Iraqi Christian. We will be arguing that it perpetuates an Us vs them mentality. This is not all the essay is allowed to cover, but it should be broad enough to expand on.

FDA’s Effectiveness in protecting non-US humans

Is the FDA effective in protecting the safety of human subjects?

Subjects Background — This is the introduction and will include key issues — broadly defined, where’s the beef?
II. Problems/Obstacles — This is the argument section — who cares? why? There are lots of ways to handle this:
1. Break down key issues one at a time in the same order as you addressed in background, give the pro side in one paragraph followed by the con side in the next paragraph; follow this format for each of the key issues.
2. Break down key issues one at a time as above, introduce arguments with pro followed by con (some say, others say); end each section with strong pro statement;
3. Key issues as above, present entire con argument (or pro argument) for ALL key issues, THEN, switch sides and argue the opposite perspective. Some folks like to begin with pro and end with con so that they can directly rebut in solutions section (next). Others like to start with con, transition to pro and then continue to build argument in solutions.
III. Solutions — This is the counter-argument place. Propose solutions in light of objections — yeah, but…. Again address in same thematic order as key issues and problems/obstacles.
IV. Conclusion — briefly summarize your main points, reiterate thesis and craft a send-off message.

Accounting theories

Identify an organizational crisis (e.g., an accident, a product safety/health hazard, or a scandal) and investigate how the organization reacted to by means of information releases (e.g., press releases, annual report, corporate social responsibility report, etc.). Analyze the organization’s reaction to the incident using one or several accounting theories (i.e., positive accounting theory: political cost hypothesis, stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory, institutional theory).

You can use either the organization’s website or the database Nexis àavailable through the Bangor University website (Library Services Nexis UK) to download documents issued by theà Databases àE-Resources organisation.

Please note that
1) the case study can be theoretical so you do not have to use numbers.
2) Two or three theories is enough.

Word limit
The word limit is 1,500 words (+/- 20%). The case study should include a cover sheet with the same of the module number, case study title, word count and a list of references containing all the materials (books and academic articles, NOT websites) you have consulted and quoted from. References in the references section should be mentioned in the text and vice versa.

Assignment of marks
You need to demonstrate the application of accounting theory to interpret and analyse your data. You are expected to read around the subject and will be rewarded, if you refer to journal articles or other authoritative sources of information to support your argument. TOXIC HAZARD RISKS IN HUMAN’S LIFE-tobacco smoke

The purpose of this paper is to identify, evaluate and plan for the threat of your potential or actual toxic exposure to a specific chemical as a consumer.

The toxic chemical may be a chemical element, a chemical compound, chemical solution or a chemical mixture.

Some toxic chemicals such as air pollution, tobacco smoke and medications are mixtures of several chemical compounds, but count as single chemicals for this purpose

The paper is to be written in your own words as a persuasive document, that is, you are to convince me that there is a real threat to consumers.
Justify your opinion by citing internet or other sources and developing the logic of your case.

Sustainable Development and Africa’s Wildlife Reserves

According to the World Bank almost half of the world’s six billion inhabitants live on the equivalent of less than US$2 a day, and about one-sixth live on the equivalent of less than US$1 a day. As countries seek to develop economically, there are many pressures to focus on economic results first and to worry about the environmental consequences later. Sustainable development projects focus on helping all people, both rich and poor, to maintain an adequate standard of living, while using resources in a way that will not diminish their capacity to support future generations. Sometimes the standard of living is decreased to minimize excessive consumption of a limited resource, such as water.

Read chapter 15 in the Miller text. Using wildlife reserves in Africa as a case study, determine the challenges in creating and sustaining the reserves, including how globalization affects the process. What are the issues at stake? How can indigenous populations be maintained?
