Workplace Project Report and Workplace Project Presentation.

tasks

a) Workplace Project Report
b) Workplace Project Presentation
for both Word Limit 2,300 – 2,500 words

1) Assessment Details:
This assessment task assists students to develop skills in communicating and negotiating with a range of stakeholders during the life of the project (project attached); critically reflecting on project progress and identifying contingency strategies if required; communicating project findings within the workplace and presenting project findings to an internal/external audience.

This assessment will comprise of two components:

Part a) – Workplace Project Report – Word Limit – 2,000 words
Your workplace project report should provide a comprehensive review of your project. It should take the form of a formal business report that can be presented to all members of your organisation. It is appropriate to write this report in the third person.

Central to your report should be a comparison of the actual process and outcomes with the plans and goals outlined in your preliminary project report(attached).
The exact contents of your workplace project report will vary according to the nature of the project undertaken. Your report should include all of the standard formal business report requirements such as executive summary etc., and a summary and critical discussion on all areas that are relevant to your particular project and its execution for example:
 the issue the project investigated
 the project plan,
 methodology used and the extent to which you applied it
 project highlights, disappointments, set-backs, problems
 project outcomes, recommendations and interventions required
 lessons learnt, both professionally and personally

Part b) – Workplace Project Presentation

For your presentation, please read carefully the following scenario under which you are to present.
Scenario:
After six months in your current position in your organisation, the senior management team has asked you to provide a presentation outlining the latest project that you have project managed as part of your role in the organisation. Of note, there will be members of your audience who are external consultants to the organisation and not necessarily familiar with the aspects that you will be reporting on.

Your presentation should provide a succinct overview of the planning, implementation and outcomes of your recently completed project. Your presentation must demonstrate your ability to manage the planning and implementation of a project. It should conclude with a reflection that will demonstrate to the management team of your ability to learn from your experience.

You have been directed that your presentation should last for approximately 20 minutes. A warning bell will sound at 18 minutes and you will be expected to conclude your presentation within the following two minutes. The management team may then have questions for you regarding your project.

Standard business technology (a computer, projector, screen and lectern) is available; however you are encouraged to consider other creative alternatives in order to engage your audience.
As a final requirement, a hand-out summary of your presentation must be provided to all members of the management team the day prior to your presentation. Do not feel that you are restricted to providing Power-point slides for the summary. You may choose to submit a pictorial A4 sheet. The aim is to provide your audience with a snapshot of your project prior to your presentation.

Report

The reports are probably the most important component of the course and you should put effort into making them high-quality and easily readable. Think of these as assignments an intern might receive on the job: you want to earn the respect and admiration of your boss (TA , professor)! Typing is always preferred, and all writing should be in complete and grammatically correct sentences.
Depending on the report there is typically a data analysis, graphical presentation, a mathematical problem and written summary in several parts. Students are expected to be able to present tables and graphs in Excel or a similar software. All tables and graphs should be neat and clearly labelled. We will discuss guidelines in class. I am happy to cover details of Excel for students who may need help, but we will do this outside class as the need arises.
All of the reports combine numerical analysis with interpretation. You will often see the words “explain” or “summarize”. Interpret these as shorthand for: “Type a short, clear paragraph in grammatically correct English to explain your answer.” If you follow these guidelines the overall length of each report should rarely exceed 2 pages.
All graphs should be clear and large enough to be legible, and the legends or titles should be thorough enough to understand the data presented. Do not turn in the raw data in the case of graphs or other analysis. The textbook provides great illustrations of tables and graphs that follow these conventions.
Notice from the textbook samples that there is an art to presenting tables and graphs clearly. For example, there should be no excess decimal places. Imagine a table that reports US GDP as $16,345,973,299,674.98765. UGLY! It should instead indicate 16.3 ($ trillion). Any number in a table or graph should be easy to understand and without extraneous decimals. Graph formatting, such as axes values, should be simple and clear and consistent from one graph to another.
The grade of 5 points per report is broken down loosely into: 2 point neatness and clarity, 1 point completeness, and 2 points correct answers. Students should do their own work. Since you have a lot of discretion in how to present your answers, no two reports should be identical. Your TAs are authorized to penalize you if there is strong evidence of copying among students. Late reports will also be penalized by 1 point per day late.

Simulation project plan report

Students need to construct a simulation project that involves the development, design and evaluative processes for a proposed clinical simulated activity for health professional(s).

Report on Belgacom.

Please note that this is a report, not a case study!

From the previous outline; here is what lacked:

The introduction must be refocused. This is to be about Belgacom overall, and then you can clearly state that the operation you will focus on is the sim card ordering process. Having presented Belgacom’s strategic objectives, you then need to state under the alignment heading how the objectives of the chosen process are aligned with these which currently you don’t do.

In general the outline you submitted tells that the paper is too much about Belgacom overall: you need to focus more on the chosen process.

Under your process assessment heading, please consider more discussion of jobs, layout, supply network and capacity.

Overall: you also need to cover planning and control

You do not use direct quotes, please use some and remember in this case you provide the page number.

Final Project
The purpose of the Final Project is to apply the concepts and techniques of the module to the analysis of real-world situations or problems. You are expected to use diverse sources of information and to carry out an original analysis rather than summarise or rehash existing work. You are encouraged to use situations and data from your own experience where possible.

For this module, you are required to complete a course project that reveals mastery in application of the operations management concepts emphasised in the course. This involves reporting on a specific operation or process for an organisation and the operations management practices that affect the performance of that particular operation/process. The project should be a formal business report that provides information regarding the strategic objectives of the organisation as well as the strategy of the specific operation/process. With regard to the specific operation/process chosen, the report should effectively analyse its design, organisation, technology, planning and control aspects, and strategies for improvement, preventing failure, and ensuring quality. Evaluation and analysis of these areas are to be supported with operations management concepts you have covered throughout the module.

The tasks required for the Final Project to be submitted this week are as follows:

1. Identify the strategic objectives of the organisation.

2. Analyse how the strategy of the selected operation/process is aligned with the strategic objectives of the organisation based on the performance objectives and characteristics of the operation/process.

3. Evaluate the overall design of the operation/process with regard to its total supply network, location of capacity, physical layout, and jobs.

4. Assess the deployment of technology within the operation/process based on the performance objectives as well as volume-variety characteristics.

5. Evaluate the planning and control methods or approaches for managing the demand and capacity of the operation/process.

6. Analyse the techniques utilised for improvement of the operation/process, as well as for detecting/preventing failure and ensuring quality.

Your Final Project should follow the given outline:

1. Brief description of company and operation/process selected

2. Strategic objectives of organisation and operation/process

3. Operation/process design

4. Utilisation of technology

5. Planning and control of the operation/process

6. Improvement, failure, and quality

7. Conclusion
Your Final Project should also include a section on how and where you obtained the information sources and the methodology used to perform any analysis. This project should follow a structured approach and should be prepared and presented as a professional business report. Please be sure your report adheres to the Harvard Referencing System.

Team Simulation Report Assignment

BACKGROUND:
For this assignment you have been given the responsibility of setting up and managing an airline company through
an online simulation system. This assignment will assess your understanding of operational processes and requires
you to reflect back on your experiences.
For this assignment students will have to work in teams of 3-4 students. On-campus students are advised to form
teams within their respective seminar classes while off-campus students are advised to team up with other offcampus
students via CloudDeakin. Each team must select a “team leader” who will communicate on behalf of the
team, implement the decisions on the online simulation system (in consultation with all team members) and submit
the final report on CloudDeakin. Please be advised that team members are collectively responsible for all
decisions/actions of the team leader. So make sure that the selected “team leader” of your team is acting responsibly!
Every “team leader” hasto submit his/her team’s details – a team name (which can be the name you decide to give
to your airline company), along with the full names, Deakin ID numbers and best contact email address of each team
member. We must receive these details by email to sukanto@deakin.edu.au AND ron.beckett@deakin.edu.au by
5PM AEST on Friday 7th August. Any students who have not got themselves into a team for Assignment 2 by Friday
7th August will be randomly assigned to a team by your lecturer and you will HAVE TO accept the lecturer’s decision!
The online simulation system is offered by a third-party provider (www.interpretive.com) who is paid for the service
by Deakin – so you do not have to pay anything to use their system. Each student will receive an email set to YOUR
DEAKIN E-MAIL ADDRESS by the third-party provider after 31st July with detailed instructions on how to register with,
access and use the online simulation system. You are advised to get into your groups to carefully peruse all
instructions and proceed accordingly. You can contact the third-party provider directly (after you have been
registered) to request any technical assistance with using the online system (note that your lecturer/unit chair cannot
offer any technical support with using the online simulation system as it is not a Deakin University-owned system).
TASK:
Write a 3000-word report addressing the following points:
1. How did you set up the company – this is not about the simulation process itself but an analysis of the
sorts of things that you needed to consider; team structure, skill fit, operational understanding etc.
2. Critically reflect on the operational aspects you employed in your initial set up, and then as you
continued to completion.
3. Explain what worked well and what did not work well in terms of your company’s operations.
4. With hindsight what have you learnt about operations from the simulation and working from
experience, what recommendations would you make if you had to do it all again (with specific emphasis
to operational practice).
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Due date: Online submission via CloudDeakin end of Week 11 by 11.59pm on 4th October 2015.
Assessment marks: This assignment is worth 50 marks, which is 50% of your final grade.
Word limit: 3000 words maximum (excluding References).
References: Academic and non-academic sources:
You must reference a minimum of six (6) academic/scholarly sources in order to support your answer. These
can include academic journal articles or chapters from academic books (including your textbook). Academic
journals can be found by conducting a search of the Deakin Library academic databases.
Citations and references: all ideas from reading sources must be correctly cited and referenced using the Deakin
author-date (Harvard) system. This also includes data and downloads from the simulation.
Formatting:
– Font: Size 12 Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial
– Line spacing: 1.5, no indentation, but one extra line spacing between paragraphs
– Margins of 2.54 cm

– Page numbers: Roman numbering and Arabic numbering used appropriately
– Header and/or footer: student name, ID number, unit code and assessment task name
Structure:
This is an academic report and must therefore adopt an analytical and critical perspective. You need to
demonstrate a sound grasp of the literature on operations management, and draw from a wide range of
theoretical frameworks and concepts to inform and underpin your analysis.

ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Designated “team leaders” are required to submit the final report on behalf of their team (in MS Word)
online in a designated area within CloudDeakin. The report MUST contain the full names and Deakin
Student IDs of ALL team members along with a declaration that every team member is happy with every
other member’s contribution. This declaration has to be signed off on by ALL members and a scanned
image of the signed declaration inserted at the end of the report (after references & appendix sections).
2. Students MUST ensure the following:
a. The paper is typed, with 1.5 line spacing
b. Page numbers are included
c. We operate absolute deadlines, which means that if you miss the submission date and time your
work will NOT be assessed. We do not operate a 10% per day reduction, so please do make
careful note of this.
3. No extensions will be granted for without the approval of the Unit Chair. If you believe you have
circumstances beyond your control that make you eligible to apply for an extension, you must apply
directly to the Unit Chair, via e-mail and before the due date for assignment submission. Supporting
documentation must be provided.
ASSIGNMENT RESULTS:
Your results and assessor’s comments will normally become available to you within 15 business days of the due
date (unless an extension has been granted). The papers are assessed using a rubric and marks can be accessed
via CloudDeakin. A notification will be posted when the marks are available.
Please note that before results are returned to students, the unit team will moderate the marking process to
ensure that the same marking standards are applied to all students within the unit. We do our utmost to ensure
complete equity in the results, but should you wish to have your mark reviewed then you are able to do so via
the Faculty upon completion of the unit. We do not undertake in-trimester reviews. When making the request
for the Faculty will not accept a review based on statements like “I think I deserve more marks“ or ”I disagree
with the mark”. Please note that receiving a disappointing mark is NOT sufficient grounds to request a review.
Writing and referencing skills:
In this assignment students have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of operations
management through a practical and realistic review of organizational practice in relation to the taught theory.
Researching, writing and referencing are valuable management skills. Effective writing is an essential skill for
good managers because written documents provide busy executives with accurate information and
appropriately informed viewpoints from reliable sources.
Students are also expected to be constructively critical and analytical when writing about what they have read.
This ensures that the conclusions drawn are not biased, and that presented report has objectively reviewed the
issues under consideration.
Please note that all ideas within your essay which have been obtained from your sources, will need to be cited
and referenced using the Deakin author-date (Harvard) system.
It is highly recommended that you obtain and use the following booklet published by the Deakin
