INTRODUCTION TO ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS.

This SLP will focus on Enterprise Systems that support a Finance Department in an organization. All organizations have finance departments. If you are in the military or other Government agency, the functions may be split. Your local organization may deal with financing the organization with everything except payroll. The payroll might be accomplished at a national level. In a normal company, the Finance generally handles both organizational and personnel costs.

Before reading about Financial Enterprise Systems, go to each of these websites and look at the responsibilities (i.e. the business processes) of a Financial Department.

https://www.ehow.com/about_6614015_role-finance-department-business.html

https://www.ehow.com/facts_5683333_role-finance-department-play-business_.html

https://www.svtuition.org/2010/05/function-of-finance-department.html

Once you have an idea of what business processes finance departments accomplish, take a look at Enterprise Solutions for finance provided by one software company.

Go to : “Drive success across your lines of business” at SAP ERP website https://www.sap.com/lines-of-business/index.epx. You will find a number of videos and white papers.

For this SLP paper, select the Finance functional area from the list above and review the site.

The direct link to the Financial Functional Area is:

https://www54.sap.com/lob/financial-management.html

Read the Potential Benefits section (there are four potential benefits) then go on to look at specific solutions to problems (there is a button called EXPLORE SPECIFIC Solutions). Take a look at some of the solutions.

Now that you have general ideas about what a finance department does and what an Enterprise System that supports Finance can do, please discuss the following questions specifically:

What are the potential benefits of one or more of the solutions identified by SAP? Specifically identify which solution or solutions you selected.

Do you agree with them? Discuss and analyze. Explain why you agree or disagree. Try and explain the benefit that the SAP solutions you selected bring to an organization.

Using the knowledge you gained on Finance departments and Enterprise Systems that support them, discuss how this enterprise module might be useful to your organization? In discussing this state whether your organization has or does not have, one or more Enterprise Systems for Finance and whether the people that run them could use the tools you identified.

ETHICS IN HEALTHCARE

The rationing of scarce healthcare resources is a subject that is both politically sensitive and raises a number of ethical dilemmas for those charged with making treatment decisions. The ethical dilemma is health care is how to balance the precepts of autonomy, beneficence, and distributive justice. Rationing may affect 3 dimensions of coverage: the share of the population covered; the services covered; and the extent to which services are covered (Teutsch & Rechel, 2012). The U.S. spends 50% more per capita on health care than any other country while achieving worse health than many (Teutsch & Rechel, 2012). Poorly coordinated insurance mechanisms leave 19% of the population uninsured (Teutsch & Rechel, 2012). Until passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in 2010, health care was effectively a privilege, not a right (Teutsch & Rechel, 2012). While PPACA seeks to rectify this, by 2019 five percent of non-elderly U.S. residents will likely remain uninsured (Tuetsch & Rechel, 2012). There are some who believe the U.S. healthcare system is broken and in desperate need of a radical change—the very change that the passage of the ACA represents. It could be argued that the ACA will only worsen the rationing of healthcare services in the United States.

What is your position on this matter? Is the rationing of healthcare a bad thing or a necessary action? What ethical dilemmas might be associated with the rationing of healthcare services and how could they be effectively addressed? Please support your positions/arguments with credible evidence.

In preparing your response, ensure that you properly in-text cite all sources used in the support of your stated positions and the example or examples you chose to utilize. The response needs to be a minimum of 250 words. Also, you will need to include the references at the end of your posting.

Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake.

Length: 500 word minimum; 1,000 word maximum

In MLA format, write an essay about Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake based on one of the following writing prompts. Remember to include a topic sentence and thesis statement near the beginning of your essay and provide ample support for your assertions. Also be sure to properly reference your quotations and sources, and to include a “Works Cited” page at the end of your essay.

Some topics you may wish to consider are:

Consider the role that “God” plays in the text. Crake had attempted to eliminate the need for deities in the Crakers, yet that need still manifested. Why is this the case? As usual, Crake rationalizes his justification, but these rationalizations rarely satisfy Jimmy. Unfortuantely, Jimmy sometimes has trouble articulating himself and is often unable to effectively counter Crake’s arguments. Using specific examples from the text, try to explain why the Crakers rely on mythology in order to understand the world around them.

One of the major thematic conflicts in the novel is that between morality and capitalist gain (that of profit). Discuss where one ends and the other begins. Capitalism has brought about many technological and cultural advancements, but at what cost? What happens in the world of Oryx and Crake when capital interests are allowed to develop unhindered by morality and ethics? Who’s to blame for this? What’s the real motivation here? How is Crake able to distribute the BlyssPluss pill?

Discuss the relationship between simulacra and reality in the novel. Do you think that simulacra is contributing to the loss of the real, or that simulacra, in a certain way, is real? How do Jimmy and Snowman use simulacra in their day to day lives? How do the Crakers use it (especially at the end)? In the novel is simulacra beneficial or detrimental?

Develop your own original topic and thesis for Oryx and Crake. Ensure that your thesis statement is contentious (i.e. it states an opinion that is not readily obvious) and workable in the allotted time and space limitations.

–For this assignment you should quote from the poem at least once, and the quotation must conform to MLA standards: the quotation should be properly introduced and grammatically correct with proper documentation in a “Works Cited” page at the end of the essay. If you choose to use secondary material, it must be quoted properly with proper documentation.

Analyzing Occupations

In 5 pages ,not including the pages with your title and references, analyze an occupation of your choice (engineer). That is, provide job description, job requirements, and results of interviewing at least 2 workers. The interviews should highlight the workers’ firsthand accounts of what they consider the chief inputs and rewards associated with the occupation. Your term papers must receive a plagiarism score of 20% or less.

Make connections, compare, evaluate, assess and express your own voice – using the evidence, your analysis of the sources, and the arguments you make within your work. Think critically about what the sources mean and what can and cannot be inferred – e.g. are there contradictions or confusions when comparing reports, quotes, accounts, media reports, statistics etc? Consider what questions your analysis of the sources raise about the problem/issue.

Clearly state your research question and your  (closely related) sub-questions. Your questions should logically and clearly flow from your analysis of the organizational / business related issue or problem. You should make it clear how your analysis led to these questions.

3. Practical rationale (up to 900 words)

*Do not use books or journals just websites for reference.

DISCUSSION QUESTION-HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

An organization provides many products and services. This means staff must be able to do many types of jobs, which means they need to have certain skills. However, many experts believe that the American workforce is lacking some of the most essential skills. For example, 92 percent of top executives believe there is a skills gap (Wastler, 2013). In addition, the overwhelming majority believe the gap is in “soft skills”—communication, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration (Wastler, 2013).

Take a position on whether you agree or disagree with the notion that Americans are lacking the most basic job skills and that it forces employers to seek applicants from other countries. In preparing your response, ensure that you properly in-text cite all sources used in the support of your stated positions and the example or examples you chose to utilize. The response needs to be a minimum of 250 words. Also, you will need to include the references at the end of your posting.
