These learning outcomes can be understood in the following ways:
Learning outcomes 1&2 are about being able to demonstrate an understanding of how public health issues fit into the wider context of theory, history and policy. You should look at how public health practice has changed, and consider ways that we evaluate success in a campaign or intervention.
Learning outcome 3 asks you to combine information from different sources. You might choose to look at health policies in different countries, especially if you can see changes in health outcomes (for example, do you think that the ban on smoking in public places helped people to stop smoking?).
To meet learning outcome 4, you should be able to discuss factors that may contribute to inequalities in health. We suggest that you think about how society, politics, the economy and the environment may have an effect on health. You may have to define the terms that you use to meet this learning outcome – for example, environment can mean different things to different people.
