You have been asked by Homes Against Homelessness, a nonprofit organization that operates programs assisting people without homes, to conduct an evaluation for presentation to philanthropists who have donated to—or might donate to—the nonprofit. Being an expert in the program evaluation field, you suggest to the nonprofit that a logic model could provide a demonstration of what the nonprofit does and how it impacts the community. Answer one of the following questions below. Make sure that all essay questions are supported with evidence and analysis: that is, material in the form of media, film examples or case studies. It is expected that you undertake some independent academic research (i.e. find material that goes beyond the course reader).

1. “We do not have a language to represent female killing”. Discuss common tropes deployed to explain away female violence, with reference to at least one representation (e.g. film, media-based and so on). Discuss how a woman’s criminality is often defined in terms of her deviance from norms of white, heterosexual, middle-class femininity.

2. Historical discourses on childhood have influenced the way we think of children as both ‘at risk and in need of protection’ and ‘a risk to themselves’. Discuss with reference to at least one controversy relating to childhood sexuality (e.g. sexualisation of girls debates, art/porn censorship debates, child sex offending etc.)

3. The generic conventions of horror reflect and/or resolve social anxieties of the time. Discuss with reference to a film that challenges our understanding of the affective relation between the ‘monstrous’ and the spectator.

4. A contemporary preoccupation with suffering as ‘catastrophe’ has contributed to Western cultures like Australia turning a blind eye to state killing and process of ‘letting die’. Discuss with reference to neoliberal discourses and/or policies relating to ‘responsibilisation’ and welfare.

 

Topic

Throughout history moral philosophers, economists, and politicians have grappled with the challenge of creating an economic system that is moral in the utopian sense of the word. To this end, in a 1,000 – 1,500 word essay, articulate your conceptualization of how it is that a given society can actualize this notion of a moral economy. However, your contribution will be solely focused on the macro level as oppossed to the meso or micro levels. Said differently, you will not focus on policies to ensure moral behavior on the part of institutions and individuals, but rather how it is that an economic system which is purported to be moral should allocate society’s scare resources and configure its markets, if it is to use markets at all. Make sure to include in your argument explicit reference to the moral principles (e.g. utilitarianism, rights & duties, justice, and caring), economic systems (e.g. capitalism, socialism, and communism), and ways of structuring markets (e.g. perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, duopoly, and monopoly).

Have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, which ought to have  subtitles. In the introduction, begin with an attention getter, which will be followed by a general discussion of the topic, and conclude with a clear articulation of your thesis, as well as the structure of the paper.

The body section is the place where you will expound upon your argument wherein you will make detailed reference to moral principles, economic systems, and the proper way of structuring markets. Make sure that you incoporate references (i.e. short quotes and paraphrases) using APA format in order to substantiate your argument.

In your conclusion, you will restate your thesis and provide a final discussion of the topic at hand.
