Leadership Critique

Part 3: Leadership Critique

You have completed several activities and assignments in this module on finding and summarizing resources on leadership and connecting leadership concepts to your own experiences. As you have read and discussed, it is important for leaders to stay abreast of developments in the field of leadership and management and to maintain a critical stance towards new ideas and theories that emerge. This part of your Final Project will be your first opportunity in your programme to practice critical thinking and academic writing on leadership concepts.

Prepare an essay of approximately 1,500 words using the following general outline:

 Introduction
 A description of one or two leadership theories, concepts or models that interest you, including a brief discussion on why you find them interesting or relevant to your work
 A discussion of how these leadership theories, concepts or models relate to your personal perspectives on leadership – in other words, whether you find them useful to explain your understanding of and experiences with leadership or whether they seem to conflict with your understanding and experiences, and how
 Conclusion
 References/Works Cited

You will likely derive the most value from this assignment by choosing at least two leadership theories, concepts or models to critique, one which seems in accord with your personal perspectives on leadership and one which seems in conflict. This approach will allow you to compare and contrast the value of the two theories, concepts or models in making sense of your personal perspective and experiences.

Examples of leadership theories, concepts and models you might address are found in readings throughout the unit. Some of these include the following:
 Leadership as a personality trait
 Servant leadership
 Situational leadership
 Styles of leadership
 Transactional leadership
 Transformational leadership
In many cases, different authors use the same terms to describe different concepts or use different terms to mean what are essentially very similar ideas. Do not let terminology worry you; discuss your chosen concepts or theories in specific, descriptive language, without too much jargon. Good academic writing is clear and explanatory, not dense or obfuscatory (and, hopefully, does not include words such as obfuscatory!).
Note:
All files uploaded are needed to be well cited in the paper please.

Contrasting Leadership Models

Contrasting Leadership Models :
No definitive recipe exists for strong leadership. A quick look throughout history reveals that ‘strong’ leadership exists in many forms. The leadership methods used by Gandhi, for example, differed dramatically from those of Genghis Khan. Gandhi’s peaceful methods brought about social change, while Genghis Khan personified brutality in the pursuit of power. Both leaders achieved their goals, and they certainly exerted power. Their contrasting methods demonstrate the need for attention to ethics as well as the implications and messages inherent to different leadership styles. Leadership methods can exhibit a multitude of characteristics.

This Assignment will be a critical analysis of successful and contrasting leadership approaches in public health systems. This assignment will consist of identifying the qualities of these different public health leaders and examining the various strengths and weaknesses of their methodologies, as they apply to improving public health.

To complete this Individual Assignment:

Submit a paper in which you address the following:

◾Compose a brief biography of two contemporary, successful, health care leaders. Who are they? What have they achieved? Why are they significant enough to warrant analysis?
◾Summarise the region, background and applicable health care organisations pertaining to each of your selected public health leaders.
◾Compare and contrast the leadership qualities of each of your selected leaders. Be sure to address the following questions:
◦What characteristics are desirable? Why?
◦What characteristics should be avoided? Why?
◾Compare and contrast the different approaches your selected leaders take in leading health systems and evaluate their effectiveness at improving health and managing disease in their respective regions/organisations.
◾You should fully state and justify any choices that you make using the suggested readings for this unit as well as your own research.

Three different types of police leadership and supervisory styles

discuss at least three different leadership and supervisory styles (consultative, directive, participative), the expectations of management, peers, subordinates, and the community. some of the obstacles encountered by front line police supervisors. techniques to develop morale and motivation, and to overcome other external as well as internal challenges to effective police leadership/supervision. Leadership

Moral disengagement of faculty and academic freedom. Provide a deep dive into it as presented by Johnson and represented in assigned readings. This deep dive will require identification of key tenants associated with the perspective and critical analysis of current scholarly articles. In a critical analysis of current scholarly articles, the articles should include empirical research on applications of the perspective and be not solely conceptual papers.
The paper must address Ethics: values and decision making. Model, design, and implement scholar-practitioner practices and processes to develop ethical leadership in organizational, community, or institutional contexts.
Regardless of the particular focus, the in-depth paper should involve a synthesis of the conceptual and theoretical literature on a key concept from the course (a “deep dive” into the topic) from which you should be able to draw some conclusions. The paper should have an additional sixth content item: identify how Ethics: values and decision making, may inform leadership model and design in the body of the paper. This sixth element should be a one paragraph appendix to the paper no longer than 150 words.

Leadership

-Using relevant theories and models critically evaluate and analyse the leadership of a 21st century leader of a (business, government or not-for-profit) organisation. If you were in the position of the leader, what could you do to be a better leader and make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation?

-For this assignment you can select a leader from a large or a small organisation. You can select a leader from your own organisation or one that you are familiar with.

– It could be a CEO of an international organisation whom you have read about in the newspapers/biographies, or a family member who runs a small business with a few staff members. The choice of leader and organisation is yours.

Write a report in which you cover the following:

▪ A clear description of the leader, the organisation/industry, and situation/context.
▪ An evaluation of the leader by referring to concepts and theories covered in the subject (e.g. style, behaviour, traits, attitudes, power) and by referring to relevant examples and mini-cases in the textbook (where appropriate).
▪ A discussion of how you would lead differently if you were put in the same situation/s as the leader and how you could make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation/s.

It is important to demonstrate your knowledge about Leadership and to clearly reference your sources. Read about Leadership in journal articles (using AIB Online Library), books (including the textbook), business literature, etc. Note the sources and use then throughout the report.

Remember that pure description and paraphrasing is not sufficient. A good report will clearly take an analytical approach and demonstrate application of leadership concepts/theories.
In order to do well you need to structure your discussion appropriately, use good references, and clearly link recommendations to description and analysis presented earlier in the report.

Perspectives
ThingsDo’s and Don’ts
• Do use the correct form! This RP is for QUALITATIVE designs.
• Do prepare your answers in a separate Word document. Editing and revising will be easier.
o Set font formatting to Times New Roman, 11 point, regular style font Do set paragraph indentation (“Format” menu) for no indentation, no spacing.
• Do copy/paste items into the right-hand fields when they are ready.
• Don’t delete the descriptions in the left column!
• Don’t lock the form. That will stop you from editing and revising within the form.
• Do complete the “Learner Information” (A.) of the first table, and Section 1 first.
• Don’t skip items or sections. If an item does not apply to your study, type “NA” in its field.
• Do read the item descriptions and their respective Instructions carefully. Items request very specific information. Be sure you understand what is asked. (Good practice for IRB!)
• Do use primary sources to the greatest extent possible as references. Textbooks are not acceptable as the only references supporting methodological and design choices.
• Do submit a revised RP if, after approval, you change your design elements. It may not need a second review, but should be on file before your IRB application is submitted.
Scientific Merit
The following criteria will be used to establish scientific merit. The purpose of the review will be to evaluate if the study:
• Advances the scientific knowledge base.
• Makes a contribution to research theory.
• Demonstrates understanding of theories and approaches related to the selected research methodology.
that are still needed:
-Any letters of permission
-Draft Interview Questions

I do not think any letter of permission are needed but that needs to be stated.
