Executive Summary Essay Chapter 1

Students will prepare an Executive Summary Essay of Chapter One.

  • Analyzing the reasons why public administrators should study information technology from a social technical point of view.
  • Students will refer to the Executive Summary Guide that will provide the instructions for developing the Executive Summary Essay.
  • The Executive Summary shall be in an essay format with a minimum of 500 words and not to exceed 600 words.

Executive Summary Guide

There will be six (6) Executive Summary Essay assignments submitted during the duration of the course. They are called summaries as they are limited in the total number of words utilized in developing the information for each assignment. That is, you have to choose your words concisely to develop your responses with supporting information from the chapters. Using the concepts, theories and definitions from the chapters and the power point lectures, you are to support your observations, analysis and recommendations within your Executive Summary, with the following guidance given: Please, do not write from a “first or second person” perspective. This means do not use “I” or “we’. Use a “third” person point of view. You do not need to footnote or otherwise reference the chapters. The focus (and space for your responses) should be directed at answering the assignment given for each chapter. One example of this position would be: Picture yourself in the movie theatre and as you are watching the movie, you are describing the various scenes to another person. In essence, you are telling a story in your executive summary essay in providing your recommendations.

Assignment: Challenges in Contemporary Youth Culture

Assignment: Challenges in Contemporary Youth Culture
Children and adolescents face multiple challenges as a result of attempting to adhere to the norms of their youth culture. For example, an

adolescent attending a party might feel pressured by friends to use drugs or drink alcohol. As a future child and adolescent clinician,

you must develop empathy and understanding of the pressures and expectations of adhering to child and adolescent cultural norms and the

various ways adhering to these norms might affect a child or adolescent.
For this Assignment, from the list of suggested films in this week’s resources, select a film depicting contemporary child or adolescent

culture. As you view the film you selected, consider the types and amount of challenges the children or adolescents faced in the film.

Consider how the challenges might have an impact on your ability to develop empathy as a child and adolescent clinician.
The Assignment (2–3 pages):
• Based on the film, explain three challenges children or adolescents faced while attempting to adhere to and/or cope with normative youth

culture and why you chose these challenges.
• Explain two ways you might develop empathy related to the children and/or adolescents in the film. Be specific.
• Explain one way you might address one of the challenges children or adolescents faced in the film and how. Justify your response.
• Explain any insights you had related to your understanding of contemporary youth culture based on the film you selected. Also, include

an explanation of how your understanding of youth culture in the film may help you be an effective child and adolescent clinician. Be

specific.

Research Assignment: Your Local Watershed

You can find out the watershed in which you live by visiting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Surf Your Watershed Site. Once

there, enter a U.S. zip code to learn the name of your watershed and learn about issues important to your watershed, such as sources of water

pollution and civic groups dedicated to cleaning it up. After finding the name of your watershed, do some internet research to find out if

there are any environmental issues affecting your watershed and answer the following questions:
Into what body of water does your watershed drain?
What pollutants are present in your watershed? (From the EPA main page for your watershed, click the tab that says “Impaired water for this

watershed,” and then follow the links to find the causes of water impairment in your watershed.)
What counties and/or cities are part of your watershed?
Are there any citizens’ groups involved in protecting and cleaning your watershed? If so, how can you contact them?

 Instructions for Completing Your Assignment

  • Now that you’ve uploaded your EBP Project from Module Four into Blackboard to be graded, it’s time to do the second half of the project in Module Five.
  • You see, it is good for you to have the correct knowledge about something….or to know the right way to practice.  However, it is even better if you share your new knowledge with others!
  • To prepare for this week, I would like you to do two things.
    • Prepare a Visual aid that covers your EBP from Module Four:
      • Your PICO question
      • What you discovered in your search for information about your PICO question.   Make sure to include information from each of your resources (this means at least 4 facts).
      • What you would recommend for practice (or as a change in practice) based on your research.
    • Be creative and professional with your visual aid for your audience with facts from your presentation.   This is a visual aid of your choosing that should be professional in quality and content. It can be a power point or brochure, for example. Simply typing your information into the discussion board will not meet the criteria for this project, you must provide a creative visual aid with illustrations. Impress your instructor and classmates!  Please include your references for your project on your visual aid.   Remember your coach and peers must be able to open your submission to view and grade it or comment on it (for example, no .zip files or Keynote Presentations from Apple computers).
  • Your instructor/coach will provide you with feedback regarding your presentation in Blackboard and post your grade in the gradebook.

Cause and Effect Essay

Cause and Effect Essay
Write a 5 paragraph essay explaining a Cause & Effect relationship.
In this assignment, you are asked to pick a specific cause and effect. A Cause or Effect Essay is an essay in which you write about the causes of

something or the effects of something. Essays explaining the causes of home burglaries or the effects of a good diet or a good exercise program can

often advance a personal point of view, which is, of course, an excellent reason for writing.
Your five-paragraph essay should look like this:
1. Paragraph One: Get the reader’s attention, introduce your topic and the three main points.
2. Paragraph Two: Write about the first main point and add support.
3. Paragraph Three: Write about the second main point and add support.
4. Paragraph Four: Write about the third main point and add support.
5. Paragraph Five: Summarize the entire essay and leave your reader with a good impression.
Be sure your writing contains:
• a thesis statement in which you clearly identify the cause-and-effect relationship you will explore
• an effective and logical method of organization
• well-chosen, relevant supporting evidence and examples that suit your audience and purpose
• transitions that smoothly and clearly connect your ideas
• error-free grammar, including correct pronoun-antecedent agreement
If outside resources are used, be sure to cite those sources using APA style. Paper should not include more than 20% of direct quotes from other

sources.
