often, people know they want something better but may not be sure exactly what it is that they want. Henry Ford is reputed to have said, ‘If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses’. This notion is equally applicable, perhaps even more profoundly, in the fast-moving world of service innovation. There may be times when you have to go above and beyond what customers are asking for to give them what they truly want.

With these thoughts in mind, in a 750- to 1,000-word response, post your answers to the following question
How would you establish customer requirements that the customers themselves do not know?

Shehabuddeen, N. (2007) Innovation in real life: a hands-on guide to genuine innovation. Liverpool: Open Innovation.
Pages 54-59. Business model innovation may be described as the strategic management of service innovation. This section describes how organisations can think strategically to extract better value from their products and services.
Pages 115 and 132. The tool and checklist here provide pointers on how customer perceptions can be identified and appropriate product / service experiences delivered.

Air Pollution, Race, and Income-Environmental Justice

Topic: Air Pollution, Race, and Income-Environmental Justice
Order type: Coursework
Subject: Sociology
The unit of analysis will be the counties in the state, so choose a state with enough counties with data to make a case.
1. Tabular: Provide tables of the data that make an argument about the distribution of exposures.

2. Geographic: Map the incidence of air pollution, as indicated in the dataset, by plotting the rank of monitoring sites (in air quality) on top of the included demographic data.

3. Graphical: Graph the data in a way that illuminates one or more of the relationships within the state.

4. Statistics: Provide a statistical measure of the distribution of pollution in that state. The best measure to use here would be a “non-parametric” measure of correlation, like the Spearman Rank Correlation. If using Excel, it may be simplest to do straightforward correlation analysis. More advanced students of statistics may wish to use regression with several independent variables.
The data are on the b-space site in an excel file called DATA_BASE-2.xlsx. The data is for Particulate Matter (PM10), a Clean Air Act regulated pollutant. All the data has been adjusted to ensure that the above listed forms of analysis are appropriate. The main adjustment has been to take the logarithmic mean of ambient readings to ensure that they are more “normally” distributed by statistical standards.
