Essay on different writers and works

Choose one of the following to respond to, using the traditional essay (intro/thesis, two to five body supports, and conclusion) format. Write the question you are answering at the top of the essay page. Be specific with examples. Follow the instructions in Part A/ Lessons/ Assignments for using direct quotes and parenthetical documentation as well as the title file for how to capitalize and punctuate title of long and short works.
Works & authors covered (Hebrew, Pslams, Sappho, Sapphocles, Plato, Dante, Chaucer, John Donne)
1. Citing at least three to five works or authors covered in this course, cite a Western cultural or intellectual pattern or idea that you see running through many of the works.
2. Citing at least three to five works or authors covered in this course, explain how you see the heritage of these writers and these periods in your own view of the world.
You are writing a personal essay: see pronoun use file. Write only from your experience and give specific examples. Any deviation from the instructions will result in a zero credit: everything counts.

International Business

1.Through the use of suitable tools, conduct a foreign market analysis and evaluate critically the strategic and environmental reasons of why Wal-Mart engaged in internationalisation strategies.

2.Analyse why Wal-Mart failed in South Korea and Germany and the differences between these countries and Mexico?

3.Using appropriate theories critically analyse the importance of a cross-cultural understanding for international businesses success. Support your answer by quoting relevant examples from the case study.

Dissociative Identity Disorder Poem

A creative and thought provoking element to this class will include reflecting upon and writing about a specific mental illness in order to understand what it must be like for individuals who struggle with any of the specific disorders discussed in class. My goal is create a sense of “informed empathy.” That is, increasing your understanding of research and theory regrading psychiatric disorders and treatment, while developing a greater appreciation for the personal impact of these symptoms in the individuals who struggle. For this assignment, you will be required to compose a poem regarding the experience of a specific mental illness.
There is no required format, length, and topic, as these are left entirely up to your own choosing and discretion. You may choose to be concrete or abstract, serious or humorous, or personal or theoretical, and you may describe the experience using first- or third-person pronouns. The poems do not need to be in a rhyming format. Anything goes!
In terms of grading, you will be judged primarily on content, rather than format or poetic language. However, be mindful that you must have a very clear understanding about the experience of the mental illness that you choose.

Interpreting data and the scientific method (500 words/24 marks)

Below, a fictitious scenario is described in which a student researcher has gained the consent of Venus and her mother to take part in an investigation. The researcher is hoping that heart rate will be a useful marker of Venus’s levels of arousal and anxiety. In this hypothetical situation, Venus’s heart rate is monitored during two competitions under three conditions (resting, pre-beam and pre-bars) to see how it responds.

The researcher is interested in how Venus’s heart rate responds to different levels of competition and therefore decides to monitor her heart rate during a low-level competition (e.g. a club competition) and during a high-level competition (e.g. national championships).

Venus’s resting heart rate is measured with a heart rate monitor on the morning of each competition, before she gets out of bed. Her heart rate is also recorded using a heart rate monitor immediately before her performance on the beam (pre-beam) and immediately before her performance on the asymmetrical bars (pre-bars). Her warm-ups for both competitions and both events are similar.

The researcher wants to compare Venus’s heart rates on the beam and on the bars, as in the DVD clip she experiences more difficulties performing on the beam than she does on the bars.

The results gathered by the researcher are presented below.

Table 1: Venus’s heart rate (beats per minute, bpm)
Resting heart rate Pre-beam heart rate Pre-bars heart rate
Low-level competition 60 115 80
High-level competition 70 133 98
Questions

a. Interpret Venus’s heart rate data based on your knowledge of arousal and anxiety from Study Topic 2. For this part of the question, you need not take into account any concerns over the validity of the data. (250 words/12 marks)
b.Using your knowledge of the scientific method discussed in Study Topic 1, and your knowledge of anxiety and arousal gained from Study Topic 2, identify two limitations of this heart rate research and make recommendations for how each of these limitations could be addressed in order to improve the research. (250 words/12 marks)
Part 3

Analysis of your own experience (1000 words/70 marks)
Identify a situation when you experienced some degree of stress, arousal or anxiety in a sporting or other activity setting. Write an analysis of your experience using perspectives from Study Topic 2.
The account should be divided into two sections:
A description of the experience itself explaining what happened and any symptoms and sources of stress, anxiety and/or arousal (cognitive, somatic and behavioural), using ideas from Unit 3.
Section B: An analysis of the experience using ideas from Units 4 and 5 (700 words/60 marks)
An analysis of how your individual experience links to the ideas covered in Units 4 and 5, including the thoughts and feelings that you had during the experience and how you coped with the aspects of stress, anxiety and/or arousal that you identified in Section A.

A Corpus-based Study of the Grammatical and Lexical Errors Committed by Learners of English at Basic Education Diploma Level number of leaners: 4945 learners

– You need to transfer their pdf papers to text and made a DIY corpora then analyze the data.
The DIY corpora must indicates the errors and compare between the lexical and grammatical errors so I will also include the answer key file.
I will include all the needed file and some articles explaining how to make the DIY corpora.

– Rationale for the study: (why you think the study needs to be done)
Learners keep committing the same errors year after year and by analysing the errors I believe that there will be a chance to find the reasons of the errors and help to avoid committing the same errors every time. The study will reveal the most common errors and will raise teacher’s awareness about the common errors made by Omani learners.

– Questions the study aims to address:
What are the most common grammatical and lexical errors committed by learners?
Which are more frequent errors, grammatical or lexical?

– Research Methodology: (how you intend to get and analyse data)
It will be a homemade corpus. Exam papers will be investigated by using corpus linguistic procedures. These exam papers are digitized and they will be from the Tests and Examination Administration Department in the Ministry of Education in Oman. They will be from first semester in the school academy year 2014-2015. The examinees’ age is about 17-18 years old. They have been taught English as second language in Omani schools since they were at the age of seven.

– The structure of the dissertation
Chapter 1:
Introduction (1000–1500 words)
•Says what the topic is, why you became interested in researching it, and discusses the nature of the issue or problem that the dissertation deals with.
•The research questions could also be introduced at this point.
•Finally, you outline the structure of the dissertation.

Chapter 2:
Review of literature and theoretical framework (4000-5000 words)
This may also extend to two chapters in some cases.
•Outlines the findings/issues raised by other studies that are relevant to your project.
•Should be state-of-the-art in its focus.
•Should be critical rather than just a descriptive list of studies you have read.
•Addresses contextual issues relevant to your study.
•Leads up to a statement of your research questions.

Chapter 3:
Methodology (approx 2000 words)
Generally includes:
•Description of participants.
•Description of the research method(s) and the procedures employed to collect and analyse data.
•How you have ensured validity and reliability of your data.
•Outline of piloting stage.
•Description of how ethical issues were addressed.
( I have contacted the authority in the ministry of education and they gave me a letter to receive the needed data. It took more than one month to receive the entire data file as it was the second semester examination time for the diploma sttudents and after that declaring the results so they were busy and even the computer processing the data that I need was slow.)

Chapter 4:
Results (4000-5000 words)
•Presentation of your findings as they relate to your research questions.
•If new themes emerged from the data, you can set them out here.
•Be critical in how the data is presented.
•Avoid merely listing answers to your questionnaire/interview guide.

Chapter 5:
Discussion (3000-4000 words)
•Compares and contrasts your findings to those of the studies you discussed in the lit. review.
•Did you find something similar to the other studies or something different?
•If different, why do think this was? What are some potential causes?

Chapter 6:
Conclusion (approx 1000 words)
•Summarises main findings (not a cut and paste job!).
•Outlines practical implications of the research by revisiting the research questions.
•Sketches future research possibilities.
•Discusses limitations and drawbacks of the project.
