Research Paper

Research Paper Instructions

In Module/Week 8, you will write a 1,500-word (5–7 pages) essay that addresses 1 of the plays from the Drama Unit. A minimum of 6 citations, including the primary source and at least 5 secondary scholarly sources, is required for this assignment. Before you begin writing the essay, carefully read the guidelines for developing your paper topic that are given below. Review the Research Paper Grading Rubric to see how your submission will be graded. Gather all of your information, plan the direction of your essay, organize your ideas by developing a 1-page thesis statement and outline, draft your research paper, and compile bibliography sources used. Format the thesis/outline, the draft, and bibliography using current MLA, APA, or Turabian style (whichever corresponds to your degree program). You have the opportunity to submit your thesis, outline, rough draft, and bibliography by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 7 for instructor feedback.

The Research Paper is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday of Module/Week 8 and must include a title page, thesis statement, and outline followed by the research essay itself and your correctly documented sources page.

Guidelines for Developing Your Paper Topic

Chapters 41 and 42 of the Kennedy and Gioia textbook provide helpful pointers for writing about plays and for developing research papers. Be sure to review both chapters thoroughly before you begin doing any further work for this assignment.

Choose 1 of the prompts below to address in your paper:

1. Write an essay explaining how Sophocles’ Oedipus exemplifies or refutes Aristotle’s definition of a tragic hero. Review Chapter 34 in your textbook for the background and overview of Aristotle’s concept of tragedy/the tragic hero and drama. This chapter also contains critical information on Sophocles and the play Oedipus. You may use any of the critical material as a secondary source, but remember to cite it correctly.
2. Discuss William Shakespeare’s Othello, the Moor of Venice as a tragedy. As defined by Aristotle, is it correct to label Othello a “tragic hero” and to classify the play as an Aristotelian tragedy? Review Chapter 35 of your textbook for the background and overview of Shakespeare’s Othello, the Moor of Venice, and drama. This chapter also contains critical information on Shakespeare and the play Othello, the Moor of Venice. Also, see pp. 944–947 and pp. 1,112–1,115; this addresses Aristotle’s concept of tragedy and the tragic hero. You may use any of the critical material as a secondary source, but remember to cite it correctly.
3. Use evidence from Sophocles’ Oedipus, from Shakespeare’s Othello, Moor of Venice, and from secondary sources to explain why you agree or disagree with this statement: “The downfall of Oedipus is the work of the gods; the downfall of Othello is self-inflicted” (Should you choose this option, you need to read both Oedipus and Othello in full).
4. Discuss the author’s perception of death and the treatment of death in Everyman.

Finding Scholarly Sources

For your papers, you are only permitted to use academic sources. Resources such as 123Essays, Spark Notes, Cliff Notes, and Masterplots (or similar resources) are not scholarly and will not be permitted in your papers. To find appropriate sources, access the Liberty University Library through the Services/Support link on the course menu. From there, you can use the Library Research Portal to find peer-reviewed, scholarly journals. The Literature Resource Center is an excellent resource for these types of papers.

If you need additional help finding the right sources, you can receive help from a librarian in the Liberty library by emailing your questions to research@liberty.edu. You are also free to visit your local library or do some research on the Internet; however, make sure that you have credible sources. If you are uncertain, email your source to you instructor in advance.

Research Database Assignment – Week 3
Guidelines and Grading Rubric
PURPOSE
You are to locate and document research databases that relate to a significant clinical nursing issue of your choice. The research databases may be labeled as such, or may be collections of research studies and reports. You are not looking for research or articles, you are looking for new databases.
COURSE OUTCOMES
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcome:
CO 1: Examine the sources of evidence that contribute to professional nursing practice. (PO #7)
DUE DATE: You are to identify a total of five research databases (or collections of research-based evidence) that are relevant to a significant clinical nursing issue that is important to you. Submit the descriptions using the form provided in Doc Sharing to the Week 3 Dropbox by 11:59 p.m. Sunday (MT).
POINTS
The assignment is worth a total of 175 points. Please see the grading rubric for details.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Choose a topic of interest to you that is a significant clinical nursing issue. Please note that the databases you identify could be useful sources of information for your Capstone project in NR451, so choose your topic thoughtfully.
2. Download the NR439_Research_Database_Form from Doc Sharing and type information about each database directly onto the form. Your paper does NOT need to follow APA formatting; however, you are expected to use correct grammar, spelling, syntax, and write in complete sentences.
3. Save the file by clicking Save as and adding your last name, e.g., NR439_Research Database_Smith.docx.
4. Describe your topic of interest. This is worth 15 points.
5. Locate a total of five research databases related to your topic. Each research database description is worth 30 points. You may search for these in various locations, e.g., the Internet or the CCN Library. You may NOT choose the databases that are already familiar to you – MEDLINE, PUBMED (which also indexes MEDLINE), GOOGLE SCHOLAR, and CINAHL. Instead, you are expected to expand your knowledge of evidence-based sources. Places to help you begin include your textbook, which lists databases and websites that report research. The Chamberlain online library (https://library.chamberlain.edu) gives you access to several databases and provide tutorials for searching. Government sites such as those at the National Institutes of Health offer collections of research on a variety of subjects. The key to choosing the databases is that each contains research-based evidence that also pertains to your topic of interest. Again you are looking for new databases to use in the future and not articles related to your nursing clinical issue.
6. Review each database to gather information to create a description for the assignment. Each description must:
a. identify the title of the research database;
b. describe the location of the research database in a way that a reader could find it. This should be the URL. This URL should take you to the home page of the database.
c. name owner or publisher of the source;
d. describe the research database. This must be in your own words and not copied and pasted from the original source. Include the purpose of the database and the subject matter it covers. This may be two to three sentences; and
e. explain how the research found in the database relates to your topic of interest. This may be an two or three sentences.
7. Submit to the Research Database basket in the Dropbox by 11:59 p.m. MT Sunday at the end of Week 3. Please post question about this paper in the Q & A Forum.
EXAMPLE
The following is an example of a description for JBI:
Title of Database: Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence-Based Nursing and Midwifery
Location of Database (URL): www.joannabriggs.edu.au
Owner or publisher of Database: Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence-Based Nursing and Midwifery (JBI)
Describe (in your own words) the research database or collection of research including the purpose and the subject matter it covers:
The Joanna Briggs Institute is an international not-for-profit Research and Development Organization that provides evidence-based resources for healthcare professionals in nursing, midwifery, medicine, and allied health. Those with membership are able to obtain evidence-based practice information from systemic reviews, evaluation reports, electronic journals, best-practice information, and consumer healthcare information.
Explain how the source relates to your topic of interest:
JBI is relevant to my topic of interest because it provides reports, systemic reviews, journal
articles, and best-practice information on current issues in healthcare. Hospital
readmissions are a major issue in healthcare. The database had several resources
addressing the problem of hospital readmissions and identifying strategies for
improvement.

personal reflection on case study of online distance education system

this is part of my analysis chapter. my phd research follows an action research approach. in this document I reflect on online distance education system in king abdulaziz university in Saudi arabia. the document (ch6-part1 instructions.doc) is already structured and I mentioned instructions for each section. So, please follow my instructions.

this chapter should be written in reflective way from the researcher (me) perspective.

general instructions for writing this chapter:
— rewrite all sections and Paraphrase them, I mean don’t copy and paste full sentences as some of them are already copied from other resources.

– Writing must be in more logical and academic way, more coherence and consistency presentation of ideas.

– Avoid repetitive in writing.
– You can change the order of presenting the ideas and information to make them look more consisted. Because I wrote ideas in a random manner
-reflective writing (this writing style should include mix of :
 descriptive (outlining what something is or how something was done)
 explanatory (explaining why or how it is like that)
 expressive (I think, I feel, I believe).
– some parts need more expansion of ideas as it is mentioned in the document instructions.

Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to work on the ultimate criterion
we care about—job performance. In Assignment 1, you already finished job analysis on a job
you picked. In the first part of this assignment, you will continue to work on the job analysis
results, which are the typical work tasks of the job you picked. You will be asked to design a
performance rating system based on the work tasks to assess how well employees perform at the
job. Next, imagine that you are invited by the organization to provide consultation on how to
make their employees perform better. What types of training would you recommend? What
actions would you take to improve the motivation and positive job attitudes of employees?
Details
In this assignment, first introduce the work/job that you are interested in (e.g., server in a
restaurant), and list the work tasks that are typically performed at the job (e.g., take orders). We
recommend you use the same job you picked in Assignment 1, so that you can utilize the job
analysis results you obtained in that assignment. If you prefer to choose a different job, you will
need to perform job analysis as you did in Assignment 1 to obtain the work tasks.
Then you will choose three different performance rating methods from what we introduced in
class (e.g., graphic rating scale, checklist, forced-choice, BARS, BOS, etc.). For each method,
first construct an item (including the behavioral definition and response anchors), then explain
which aspect of performance the item intends to measure (e.g., customer satisfaction). You also
need to discuss what the possible criterion deficiency (e.g., fails to measure how fast they take
orders) and criterion contamination (e.g., may tap into customer’s satisfaction with the food) are.
Finally, you will specify which rating source you would like to use for the item (e.g., customer
ratings), and why.
Next, you will provide consultation on how to improve employees’ performance through
training. Specify what KSAOs you think that training should be focused on (e.g., ability to
communicate clearly), which method(s) would be appropriate to be used for the training (e.g.,
apprenticeship), and why you think the training would help improve job performance. At the end
of this section, please also specify how you would like to evaluate the effectiveness of the
training (e.g., have a simulation test on how well the servers communicate with customers).
Finally, you will need to propose solutions on improving job performance through motivation
and job attitude. Specifically, two solutions need to be proposed to improve motivation. For each
solution, you will need to provide a detailed action plan (e.g., ask each customer to rate
satisfaction with their server; servers who receive the highest ratings each day get $5 bonus),
explain the theory behind the plan (e.g., reinforcement theory), why you think it improves
motivation, and consequently, job performance. Similarly, two solutions need to be proposed to
improve positive job attitudes. For each solution, you will need to provide a detailed action plan
(e.g., give servers more freedom on choosing their shifts), explain the theory behind the plan
(e.g., job characteristics theory), and why you think it improves positive job attitudes and job
performance. Make sure the solutions you propose are specific to the job you picked.
Requirements
You must use at least 3 sources. These can include the course text and lecture notes,
supplemental readings, websites, or other outside material. Document your research with APAstyle
citations, including a separate references page. At least one source must be outside of
PSYC245 course material and O*NET (the library’s PsycInfo database can be helpful).
The paper should be written as a semi-formal essay. Feel free to write in a creative manner, but
maintain a professional tone. Writing your paper in the order of the given outline makes
grading your paper easier and it assures that you don’t forget an important point. In order
to receive a perfect score your paper must adequately cover all the topics on the list. Our grading
TA will actively search for the topics in your paper to decide the score; points will be deducted if
any topics are missing. The paper should be approximately 4-page in length excluding
references (double-spaced, font size 12, 1-inch margins).

Nonprofit Boards
provide integration of a biblical concept that supports your reply to each paper.

For each reply, the following should include:

o At least 2 scholarly article (published within the last five years); and
o A relevant business article (any article from a reputable business source—website, magazine, book, etc.—that discusses a relevant business/ethical issue) and;

Remember to provide new ideas, research, and analysis that create a clear dialogue with each student paper (i.e., each student’s ideas). Go beyond providing basic definitions to topics being discussed. Your reply to each student paper must not read as just another thread, nor regurgitate and restate what the student has stated.

Citations must be in current APA format (including headings). You must use proper spelling and grammar. The word count for the replies are as follows:

There are three replies needed (one per student paper) so the total word count is 550 (not including references). See attachment for student replies. Also use at least one scripture from the Holy Bible for each student’s paper as a reference. *****200 words a piece for CR and JW replies and 150 words for M’s reply.

Important: Label your paper with the student initials that you are responding to. For example, if you are responding to GL’s paper then write “this response is for GL”. In addition, each response to each student paper must have their own references. Do not combine all the references for all students at the end of the paper. Place the appropriate references under the applicable student’s response.

See levels of achievement on instructions (uploaded).
