A Suggested Format for Your Literature Review

1) Statements of the problem(s):
This part usually makes clear what the problems are. For example, students’ inability of dealing with expository texts, or students with less exposure to print before they come to school requiring more attention from teachers to keep up.
The description of the problem should be as detailed as possible. Usually some literature would be cited to support your argument about the existence of the problem(s). Your classroom experience can also be used as part of the description.
The length varies. I think one or two paragraphs of about 200 words might be a good one for this class.

2) Methodology
This section will focus on how you go about identifying and collecting the literature and how decide on using which ones from your search that has identified literature. In particular, you may want to pay attention to the issues of reliability and manageability. You need to set up the criteria through which identification of literature is accomplished. Usually in identifying scholarly literature, you will describe how you locate it, make decisions to include it, and rationales for its sufficiency on the topic.

3) Results and discussions
This section summarizes the results of your literature review and organizes your interpretations of the results. You need to present convincing evidence to illustrate that the arguments you are advancing to summarize the literature are valid or make sense. Usually a themed approach is the best way to synthesize literature on a topic. Do not report the results simply as annotated bibliography. In addition, your interpretations would usually have practical implications for teachers, which you should state clearly.

4) Conclusions
You need to conclude by pointing out the limitations of your literature review and the directions of possible future literature reviews on the topic.

5) References
This serves as a separate entity from the paper proper. Use APA style for reference list.

Some helpful notes about the review of literature paper
Procedures:
In reviewing the literature to write the paper, you would consider including the following procedural practices:

Collect peer-refereed journal articles only on the topic you have decided to pursue.

Read carefully and take AMPLE notes to familiarize yourself with the topic.

Consider the themes or central elements in the papers and try to organize them into a reasonable structure for writing.

Be careful about the conclusions and always use support from the literature to back up what you have been discussing.

Be careful editing and revising the paper. Invite someone to read it over for you if need be.

Online Campaign Project

 
Your assignment is to critically analyse a website, provide recommendations to improve its search results, and plan an online ad campaign to promote the site. You are encouraged to use your creativity and select tools to make this possible.

Project report structure:

I. Scholarship – 25 marks:

You must conduct market research and data analysis to provide a thorough justification for your recommendations.

This can include primary data (current website content, interviews or surveys of potential users), a tabular extract from Keyword Research, competitor activity analysis in this area, screen shots of current competitors’ ranking for your primary keyword terms using different tools such as Google Keyword planner tool, Google Trends, Google Insights for Search, etc.

II. Analysis – 25 marks:

You must critically evaluate the principles and processes involved in search engine optimization and website content strategy. This consists of 3 parts:

1. Evaluation of current rank. Use SEMRush, Open Site Explorer and a number of other tools to record the site’s overall Google Rank, backlinks, and other relevant data. Please be sure to note the exact date of your evaluation, since the website may change. Why do you think the site is not ranking higher? Please support your opinion with research.

2. Keyword evaluation. Select a minimum 5 keywords using Google AdWords Keyword Planner, and show their average monthly searches and competition level. Why did you select these keywords? While noting that individual results may vary, where does the website currently rank in terms of SERP (Search Engine Results Page and page position)? How do key competitors rank on the same keywords?

3. AIDA+ evaluation. In your opinion, how well does the current website create Awareness of the brand and product/service it offers; create Interest in readers to find out more; create Desire for the product/service; generate Action in terms of conversions (such as purchasing, registration, or business objective); and provide Satisfaction to current and past customers (customer service, post-purchase communications, etc.).

III. Campaign – 50 marks:

Based on your analysis, create a brief online campaign plan. This includes 5 parts:

1. Audience. Identify the relevant target audience/customers for your campaign.

2. SMART goals. Set one-year objectives for your website that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This should include both SEO and AIDA+ performance.

3. KPI’s. Set Key Performance Indicators to measure whether your SMART objectives are being met.

4. Content. Identify the major content changes you would make on the website to achieve your objectives, and justify your recommendations using research. This includes placement of keywords, renaming sections, adding or deleting other sections, and inclusion of multimedia content (games, videos, etc.).

5. Online ad campaign. With a hypothetical budget of US$10,000, plan an ad campaign with text ads on Google, Facebook, LinkedIn OR Twitter. (Pick 2 of the 4, and do not do banner-type display ads.) A five- to six-page Term Paper is required (this counts 1/3 of final grade), which must focus on some important question in Environmental Ethics. You may wish to consult with the instructor in selecting a topic. A list of possible topics will be distributed, however, you may suggest a topic which emerges from your own thinking. The paper may present an argument on some important Environmental issue, which draws on ethical principals and sources of moral value to be discussed in class. It should give an account of the major positions taken up on either side of an issue, including arguments in support of each side. Finally, the student should give her/his own position as a resolution of the issue, along with her/his reasons that support it. Alternatively, the paper may be a Synthesis of the reflections processed throughout the semester, and ending by summarizing the principles and conclusions drawn by the student as a result. The paper should be carefully written. Close attention must be paid to grammar, word usage and spelling. This will help to make the term paper clear to the reader, and good philosophical expression should be clear.
