In this assignment you will plan a community nutrition promotion programme which aims to make healthy food more available and accessible in an Early Childhood Education (ECE) setting.
a. Overview the evidence for the effectiveness of nutrition programmes in ECE or primary schools.
b. Identify community using national statistics which may benefit from a nutrition programme in an ECE.
c. Describe overall aim and SMART objectives.
d. Describe strategies and actions which may influence the food available within the ECE and wider community for whanau/family.
e. Provide a health promotion model to underpin your programme.
f. Develop a guide to evaluate your programme.
To undertake the planning you can build your own logic model. Logic models are intended to be a guide, not a prescription.Consider the following headings:
Rationale
Why is this particular programme needed? Consider:
• particular problems or issues significant in the community or region that you have selected
• statistics specific to the region
• the potential for health gain for each priority area
• how the programme might reduce inequalities.

Describe the aim over a specific timeframe.
Objectives
These should be SMART specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-framed.

The range of activities and resources to be used eg, policies, programmes, hui, meetings, submissions.
Setting or population group; settings include early childhood schools, kohanga reo and workplaces, while population groups include pre-school children, Maori women, communities and neighbourhoods. There may be a number of activities for each part of the programme.
Making a difference
Identify what you hope to influence from the programme. What are the inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes.
Linkages
Programmes are based on collaboration and cooperation with other sectors and providers-describe.
Evaluation
A process to evaluate all aspects of the programme is needed.
