Arguments of Things Fall Apart

Nobel laureate Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart explores the political, social, and religious effects of British expansion into the African interior. How does this novel serve as a tool for understanding late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century imperialism? How do British authorities (missionaries, merchants, governors) undermine traditional relationships and practices? In what ways do Africans respond to empire building?
The challenge in this assignment is to make and support your argument in 1500 words. That means weighing your evidence carefully and analyzing it collectively to formulate the best possible essay.
As a primary source analysis essay, you must make a critical assessment of the texts under consideration. Papers must also include a clear thesis/argument. Outside materials are not welcome. Use only assigned course materials and lecture notes in formulating this essay.
Note: If you do not complete this assignment, you must complete the Perec analysis. Either way, you are still responsible for reading the material.
Formatting and Other General Guidelines:
 12pt Times New Roman typeface
 Double-spaced
 Use Chicago-style footnotes to cite materials used in the essay.
 Proofread for spelling and grammar prior to submission
 Include your name and page number in the header, aligned right.

Applying theory to practice problem: part 1: introduction and problem of practice.

PURPOSE:

It is important to understand how research can help you in your everyday environment as a nurse. In this assignment, you will identify a practical problem that emerges from the evidence in the extant literature or professional practice.

DIRECTIONS:

Chose a problem that you are encountering in your practice or about which you have read in the current literature.

Write a paper (250 to 500 words) that describes a practical problem that emerges from the evidence in the extant literature or professional practice. The paper should do the following:

Clearly describe the problem.
Provide a rationale for the significance of this problem. The rationale must be supported by the current or seminal literature.
Prepare this assignment according to APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are not required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.

Tap Proposal

The Take Action Project (TAP) is an opportunity to relate your project to your understanding of at least one (or more) of the course themes — spirituality/religion, social justice, sustainability/science, and women’s issues.

“What is Service-Learning?” This is Step 1 of the Take Action Project process.

Remember, as the TAP instructions indicate in Week 7, academic credit will be awarded for the learning (reflection and critical thinking about how the project relates to course concepts) that you gain from the experience, not for the service itself. Service learning, for purposes of this course, is a way to take action in the world — to serve and to learn through that service. However, identifying a plan for the service part of the project is important in this part of the process.

The National Center for Service-Learning defines service-learning through three key characteristics:

Service-learning constitutes activity that is focused on meeting a human need in the community where that need has to do with the well-being of individuals and/or of the environment in which they live.
Key academic and/or civic objectives to be achieved through combining service with learning have been identified prior to the activity.
Opportunities for students to reflect on their experience and its connection to specific academic/civic objectives are incorporated into the activity.

Please discuss your ideas about a proposal for one to three TAP project possibilities. Your mission is to propose a service-learning project that interests you and to reflect on the following questions in your post.

The Take-Action Project that I’m interested in exploring is …
How does this project relate to content in this course? What specific theme or themes are reflected in the project you propose? Which of the four general categories of service (direct service learning, indirect service learning, *research-based service learning, and *advocacy service learning) most interests you? Which of the categories applies to your preliminary project idea?
If appropriate to your project: What is the mission of your service site? What services are provided or what needs will be addressed through your project? Why do these needs exist in your community?
What do you hope to learn from your project?
What are you perhaps nervous or enthusiastic about?
• It is probable that your project will reflect at least one academic, professional, or personal goal that is important to you.

• Your project will be evidence of you contributing to a group or a community in a meaningful way.

• You will demonstrate understanding of how your service project connects to one or more of the course themes.

• You will gain experience in examining your assumptions at the beginning of your project and will reflect on whether or not your experience altered those assumptions.

• You will research the topic that is related to your project and service and you’ll use evidence from that research to support any conclusions or inferences that you make at the end of your service project.

• It is probable that you’ll employ creative thinking about many elements in connection with your project.
This is Step 2 of the TAP process. Now that you’ve narrowed your focus to one particular project that interests you, you’ll conduct some preliminary research on your topic and submit a proposal on that project. Upload your proposal to dropbox BX3 titled “TAP proposal.”

In this proposal, your goal is to move from a broad concept to a more specific focus. In doing that you’ll revisit some of the same questions you reflected on in Step 1, but you’ll be more focused in your responses. (If you accelerated and accomplished a specific focus in Step 1, then you’ll have done the majority of the preparation for this assignment.)

Address the following in your proposal:

Identify your project and discuss how it specifically relates to content in this course.
Identify the problem that your project or service contribution seeks to impact. Revisit your responses to questions for the “First Impressions” discussion board topic. Include a summary paragraph of those responses and if your thinking on any of the questions has changed, then let your summary reflect your freshest thoughts and don’t feel limited to your earlier responses.
Conduct preliminary research on your specific project. Most social justice issues are complex. What does your research tell you about the complexity of the problem? In your proposal, discuss what you’ve learned from that research. Include at least two sources of information that are relevant to your project. [Note: In your final report, you’ll include a minimum of two references from course materials and a minimum of three additional resources that are from course materials or other sources related to your project.]
What coordination or specific practical steps do you need to take to complete your project? Discuss specific times and dates that you have outlined to move forward for successful completion of your project.
What, if any, concerns (or questions) do you have about your project? Discuss these concerns in your proposal. Be specific about the concern and then, if appropriate, be specific in brainstorming possible solutions for the concern. For example: If your concern is scheduling time for your project, then state that but also state possible ways that you might make it work. If your concern is not being confident in how to do research on your topic, then state that concern and discuss your specific understanding of how to do that research and any specific questions that you have.
The Take Action Project (TAP) provides an opportunity for you to combine theoretical studies in this course and community service.

Here’s a summary of those steps:

You’ll propose a possible idea or ideas for a project.

You’ll narrow your proposal to one idea and conduct preliminary research on it .

You’ll discuss either your expectations or experiences or both as you move toward completion of your project.
After completion of your project, you’ll write about your insights in connection with your project and how your project was connected to concepts studied in this course.

orgnizational communication

*Think of a time when you struggled with semantic meaning. Perhaps you had trouble understanding someone’s highly abstract language, or maybe you confused someone else by using equivocal language. In your learning journal, use some vocabulary you’ve learned in this chapter to describe the misunderstanding that occurred, and how it might have been avoided if possible.

case study

APA Formatting for Case Scenarios (NURS 424)
Case scenarios:
• Use your Wagner text ONLY. The case studies are created so that you dive into the material that is assigned for the week. All answers can be found in the textbook.
•Pay attention to the point value of the question. If it is worth one point or more, I expect a substantial answer.
•When taking material from your text, you must cite your resource.
• DO NOT USE RED
APA: (2014 edition)
• The first time you cite Wagner it must be as follows:
o (Wagner & Hardin-Pierce, 2014)
• Additional citations should also be:
o (Wagner & Hardin-Pierce, 2014)
• If you copy something word-for-word (direct quote) then you should have this enclosed in quotation marks. This should be followed with the citation that includes a page number (see example) o(Wagner & Hardin-Pierce, 2014, p.237)
o “Heart rate is the first determinant of cardiac output and is an easily measured parameter” (Wagner & Hardin-Pierce, 2014, p. 151). OR
o According to Wagner and Hardin-Pierce (2014), “heart rate is the first determinant of cardiac output and is an easily measured parameter” (p. 151).
• Failure to properly cite directly quoted material is plagiarism and is an academic integrity violation. This will be enforced.
• If it is not a direct quote, do not place a page number
• If you write the citation in the sentence it should appear as follows:
oAccording to Wagner and Hardin-Pierce (2014)
• You must provide the reference to your text oThis must be done correctly!!!
• The word reference should be capitalized, centered, and boldface
• You must submit all case scenarios as a word document.
• Points will be deducted for incorrect APA. The objective is for you to perfect this prior to submitting your high-acuity paper due later in the semester.

Police

You are a judge on an appellate court that has been asked to overrule the trial court in the following case. There is no dispute as to the facts.

Sixteen-year-old Chester head-butted, then slammed into the wall his six-year-old neighbor, Daisy. The boy is larger and stronger that most boys his age, but his I.Q. has been tested at 75, the low range of normal. Chester admitted the conduct but denied culpability and expressed no remorse. He claimed he was emulating what he had seen pro-wrestlers do on television.

The police charged him with juvenile delinquency, conduct which, if committed by an adult, would constitute murder. He was waived to criminal court, convicted and sentenced to death. The jury found as aggravating circumstances the facts that Chester had been in an out of juvenile court since the age of 7 on complaints of assault, robbery and sexual misconduct.
Chester’s attorney has argued: 1) that the case should not have been waived to adult court; 2) that he should not have been found guilty of murder, and 3) that he should not have been sentenced to death.
Discuss these issues with your fellow appellate judges, considering both the law and equity of the case.
Your initial post should contain at least 250 words,

Reintegration and Reconciliation of child soldiers in Sub-Saharan Africa following periods of armed conflict

This research paper should focus on a case study of child soldiers in: Uganda (Lord’s Resistance Army), Sierra Leone (Revolutionary United Front), and Sudan all in the post-Cold War context and attempt to explain the methods of reintegration and their effectiveness in other sub-Saharan African nations as well.

Please operate with the research question similar to: How effectively have the challenges of reintegrating child soldiers in Sub-Saharan Africa into society been addressed?

The thesis statement should remain extremely similar to: Reintegrating child soldiers in Sub-Saharan Africa is important for reconciliation and societal healing because it permits a society to move past conflict, healing is necessary for former child soldiers to become productive members of society, and society remains fractured without reconciliation.

Please keep the focus on child soldiers that were forced, abducted, and physically coerced into child soldiering for this paper as those that willingly enlisted are not the focus of this paper.

Please provide a thorough analysis of the topic as simply reporting will not be acceptable.

Please include a table of contents and ensure all headings and subheadings are left-aligned and page numbers are in lower right corner.

All citations should be in the form of Chicago Style footnotes and include: last name of author(s), name of book or article, and page number. Please utilize Ibid when a citation is exactly the same as the previous citation.

It is required that there should be a minimum of one citation per paragraph (excluding the introduction and conclusion).
