How Does Integrated EMR Lower Healthcare Cost in Underdeveloped Countries?

Examine the impact of adoption of integrated electronic medical records on healthcare cost in underdeveloped countries. Integrated EMR is a comprehensive system that enables health care professionals and clinicians to timely access to patient data to improve care and lower cost. Health IT literature has been focusing on examining the impact of EMR in developed countries; therefore, there is a need to study the impact in underdeveloped countries. Many underdeveloped countries experience difficulties in reducing healthcare cost without sacrificing quality.

The Legal and Ethical Issues Surrounding a Medical Setting

Choose a topic, begin research, and draft a thesis for your paper.

Focus on finding at least two peer-reviewed articles related to your topic.
Use the WCU library to find these articles.

•First, select a topic with both legal and ethical implications faced by professionals in the healthcare setting.

Discuss the multitude of legal viewpoints, ethical issues, and issues of inter-professionalism related to your topic.

Discuss how values, ethics, and sense of inter-professionalism may shape how the topic is interpreted, analyzed, and communicated in legal and ethical terms.

◦For example, you can analyze Roe v. Wade (the law that legalized abortion) and its impact on the practice of obstetrics and gynecology over time.

◦Alternately, you could discuss the legal and ethical issues surrounding The End of Life Option (physician-assisted suicide) law that was recently passed in California and its impact on hospitals.

◦You could even discuss the need for a strong Code of Ethics in every medical business setting or the need for interprofessional education and how it can improve the ethics of a medical setting.

• Once you have chosen your topic, conduct research to find at least two peer-reviewed articles related to your topic and summarize the findings in those two articles. Then, formulate a thesis for your paper.

Compose a 2–3 page paper that presents your thesis and summarizes your supporting articles. In your paper, analyze why these article support or refute your topic. Compose your paper in APA format with a title page, introduction, headings, conclusion, and reference section.

CASE STUDY

St. Martha’s General Hospital Scenario.
Health care is an extremely regulated industry mostly because of the especially vulnerable nature of its customers, the patients.

Legislators have created numerous laws to control everything from the process of insurance to how a patient must be treated and what they must be told by medical personnel.

Individuals who break these laws can be subject to civil or criminal liability, so it is extremely important that every healthcare worker know and understand the laws related to his or her job.

For this discussion,  use the St. Martha’s General Hospital Scenario. After reviewing that scenario and reviewing the laws that you learned ,  discuss a healthcare law that may have been broken by an employee of St. Martha’s General Hospital.

Identify any scenario where the law has been broken.

Discuss the major points of the law.

Analyze the facts of the hypothetical situation against that law to explain how the employee broke the law. Support your ideas with evidence from your readings.

This should consist of direct evidence of the knowledge and skills gained. Indirect evidence can also be used in your portfolio. The portfolio should be cross –referenced to the LAP outcomes for ease of reference.

We anticipate that the following will be achieved for:

Critical literature review; investigation of practice; construction of plan for implementation.

Negligence

Medical personnel have to worry about lawsuits with every patient and every action. One type of civil action is a negligence action. Negligence is an unintentional tort (personal injury) claim that can subject a healthcare worker and/or the caregiver’s employer to damages.
When the negligence is at the hands of an individual who is considered a professional and held to a higher standard, it is then called malpractice.
For this discussion, you will use the St. Martha’s General Hospital Scenario. Choose one of the following scenarios: The Affair, The Bully, Creative Accounting, or The Slackers.
After reviewing a scenario, list and explain the elements that a plaintiff would have to prove in order to win a claim for negligence.
Then, explain the concept of malpractice and what else would be needed to win a claim for malpractice. Make sure to support your opinions with evidence from your readings.
