Brainstorming and Team Creativity Presentation

This week you explored team creativity and brainstorming. For five days, keep a creative idea journal. Each day you should come up with 5-10 fresh ideas (these can be business concepts or strategies, for example) and reflect upon the merit of those ideas.

Additionally, identify the brainstorming technique/approach you used and determine the merit of the approach used to generate your ideas (consider referencing outside sources and course text to substantiate your approaches).

Then, create a paper where you share the top 10 ideas you came up with and include explanations/descriptions for each idea. Discuss the brainstorming and/or creative process. Create summary that shares what you learned from this exercise.

must include reference page.

Writing a creative essay based on giving instructions to someone on how to be happy

The paper doesn’t have a specific format it should be creative.

The format of the paper should be based on the author Julio Cortazar’s writing “Instructions Manual”. I am uploading some documents for example the writing of `instructions to cry’ and ‘instructions to sing’ of Cortazar so that you can read them first and then the language and the structure of my paper should be based on these writings, but never give a quote from Cortazar or refer to him.

The topic of the paper: I chose to give someone instructions about how to be happy.

Introduction: begin the paper with an interesting hook maybe a rhetorical question.
No thesis written in the introduction.
The introduction should be an opening of the all instructions that will be given to the person.

Body paragraphs: please write a clear and concise topic sentence to each paragraph where in each paragraph mention a varied aspect of how to be happy. Use transitions between paragraphs to make it smooth and avoid passive voice.

Conclusion: end up in a creative way maybe with a very effective instruction on how to be happy that if that person obeys to that instruction he or she will lead to happiness of certain.

Content:
When you give advice to someone on how to be happy please in a paragraph state the obstacles of being happy and the difficulty in being a decent person. Please give daily life examples from yours. Please make sure to have deeper meanings in each instruction you give. For example: don’t say “crying or being depressed isn’t beneficial to your health” but say that sentence in a way that the reader should understand how crying in your life had a negative impact on you that you are stating this. The instructions shouldn’t be broad or easy as everyone knows, please make sure to give profound advice. Reading Cortazar’s Instruction Manual writings will be a great example

Language:
rather than only giving commandments to someone explain the topic more implicitly. For example do not only say ‘live your life at the moment’ but write this instruction in a more deeply way that has underlying problems inside.
You will see that Cortazar also doesn’t give instructions on how to do something in a straightforward way but the language is very sophisticated.
it should be full of imagery, comparison, expressive words and imperative verbs. Since it is giving advice to someone, you can use “you” language.

The author, Constance Hale has written some writings named as “Make or break verbs” and “the sound of a sentence” You should read these short writings and include those literary devices and sentence structures in the paper.

Please write full 4 pages of creative instructions on how to be happy, according to the MLA format and without plagiarism.

I ordered 5 pages, because the fifth page has to be a reflection of the creative writing.
5th Page: is an academic formal paper style where you have to show the influence of the author’s Cortazar and Hale’s writings to your paper. You should state how you used their guidance or writings in your paper. (ex: if you did repetition in your paper as Hale said it was important to) explain why you used it? Briefly explain the influence the authors’ writings had on your paper. Please give quotations from the writings of both authors. At the end of the reflection please state what was challenging for this assignment and what was rewarding. But do not use “I” pronoun. The reflection should be 1 page long.

Fiction Essay

In Module/Week 3, you will write a 750-word (34-pages) essay that compares and contrasts 2 stories from the Fiction Unit. Before you begin writing the essay, carefully read the guidelines for developing your paper topic that are given below. Review the Fiction Essay Grading Rubric to see how your submission will be graded. Gather all of your information, plan the direction of your essay, and organize your ideas by developing a 1-page thesis statement and outline for your essay. Format the thesis statement and the outline in a single Word document using current MLA, APA, or Turabian style (whichever corresponds to your degree program). You have the opportunity to submit your thesis and outline by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 2 for instructor feedback.
The essay is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 3 and must include a title page (see the General Writing Requirements), a thesis/outline page, and the essay itself followed by a works cited/references page of any primary or secondary texts cited in the essay.
Guidelines for Developing Your Paper Topic

Chapter 39 of the Kennedy and Gioia textbook provides some helpful pointers for reading actively, taking notes, brainstorming, developing a clearly-defined thesis statement, preparing an outline, and writing a cogent fiction essay. Be sure that you have read this chapter before doing any further work for this assignment.

Choose 2 of the following short stories to compare and contrast in your essay:
 The Lottery by Shirley Jackson,
 The Destructors by Graham Greene,
The Rocking-Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence,
Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne,
The Child by Tiger by Thomas Wolfe, or
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell.

Also, make at least 1 of these elements of fiction the focus of your essay:
 Conflict/Plot/Structure,
 Characterization,
 Setting,
 Theme/Authors Purposes,
 Point of View, and/or
 Tone/Style/Irony/Symbol/Imagery.

If you need help focusing your essay, ask yourself questions that correspond to your chosen element(s).

Conflict/Plot/Structure (This is not a summary of the stories)
What are the basic conflicts? How do these conflicts build tension, leading to major, complicated incidents and climactic moment(s)?
What are the ways in which each major character experiences conflict (either with self, with other characters, or with the social and/or physical environment)?
How are the conflicts resolved? Do the protagonists succeed in achieving their goals?
Who receives your deepest sympathy and why?

Characterization
Who are the main characters in the stories?
What are their outstanding qualities? Does the author give any indication as to how or why the character developed these qualities?
What are the characters emotions, attitudes, and behaviors? What do these indicate to the reader about the character?
Can the characters motivations be determined from the text?

Setting
Where and when do the stories take place (remember to include such details as geographic location, time of year, time period, if the setting is rural or urban, etc.)?
Do the settings make the stories believable or credible? How does setting impact the plot of the story, and how would the plot be affected if the story took place in another setting?
Are the characters influenced by their setting? How might they behave if they were in a different setting?
What atmosphere or mood does the setting create (for example, darkness may create a mood of fear or unhappiness while light or bright colors may create one of happiness)?
Is the setting or any aspect of it a symbol, or does the setting express particular ideas?
Does setting create expectations that are the opposite of what occurs?

Theme/Authors Purposes
What is the major theme (or themes) of each story?
Are the themes of the stories similar or different?
How does the author convey the theme (or themes) to the reader?
How do the stories themes relate to the authors purposes (some examples of author purposes are to entertain, to satirize, to realistically portray lifes problems, to analyze emotions and responses, and/or to communicate a moral message)?
What unique style, techniques, or devices do the writers use to communicate their themes?

Tone/Style/Irony/Symbol
How would you describe the tone of the piece?
Does the tone correspond with the action occurring in the plot?
What style does the author use (for example, one way an author might satirize is by including a lot of ironies, hyperbole, and unrealistic scenarios)?
How might the story be different if the tone or style is changed?
Does the writer use irony or symbols to communicate the message?

For this assessment you are asked to submit ONE document containing FOUR maps showcasing the skills you have learnt in the practical classes. Each map should be accompanied by a paragraph (around 200-300 words) explaining the choices you made in creating your maps; for example map style, layout, symbology, fonts, map projection.

• The document should be in PDF format created from a word processor containing high-resolution maps exported from ArcMap (not screenshots). Make sure your maps are legible.

• You will be provided with sources for data to complete the tasks, but you are encouraged to find and use more data where possible.

• Your portfolio will be assessed on the clarity of cartography, accuracy of data and appropriateness of analytical techniques.

someone you think is creative, it can be an artist, painter, scientist, businessperson, etc. (real or fictional) and print out a picture of them, and write their name above it, and your name below it.

Write 10-20 lines about the creative person you picked, just a bit of a biography (see below).

Now write 10-20 lines about why you picked them.

Find between 5 and 10 different pictures (photographs or portraits) of your chosen person and write 10 lines about the differences in appearance.

Create a timeline of at least 10 significant events that occurred in your chosen person’s life (or even event’s after they died, e.g. a university or a road got named after them, etc.) Each year will have at least 20 words after it.

Write 40-50 lines about your experience of doing an activity like the creative person does; maybe use the six thinking hats to structure it (overview, facts, positives, negatives, interesting+alternatives, reflections, summary, and conclusions).

Create a powerpoint outlining “How to think like [Your Chosen Person]” with a few slides of an introduction to them, a few slides of biography, and 5-9 things that them did very well that anyone can learn from.

Work with concrete, significant details. Personal essay must contain at least one scene, even if it is short!!! Make use of back-story if appropriate to enhance or underscore the narrative. In each of the personal essays we’ve looked at, the writer reflects on his or her experience, and so should you.
A common mistake beginning writers make is to put in way too much set up. Be economical with your set up and get to the meat of your essay.
Please make sure that there are no spelling, punctuation or grammar mistakes, no incomplete or run-on sentences, and NO TENSE SHIFTS!

one of these emotions: anger, anxiety, resentment, joy, and guilt. Recall a time when you felt that emotion while interacting with a person of another social group. Answer the following questions:

1. Describe the interaction.
2. Where did the interaction take place?;
3. How did you deal with your emotions?
4. Did the experience affect future interactions with other social group members? If so, how?

Open ended question

General Overview

In this project you will develop a brief semi-structured interview to assess an older adult’s experience of ageing. You will then interview ONE older adult about his / her experience (participant to be aged 65+).

Your semi-structured interview should contain 5 open-ended questions about ONE specific aspect of ageing (e.g., stereotypes, benefits of ageing, memory changes, social changes, retirement etc.). You will need to consult relevant literature to develop the questions. For example, if interested in memory you would research memory changes typical of normal ageing and then develop questions that will identify your interviewee’sexperiences. You will need to use the principles of good question design, and interviewing as covered in previous units. As this is a semi-structured interview, you will have opportunity to ask follow-up questions of your participant after they have answered a formal question if you so choose.

Your report should follow APA (6th edition) formatting, in-text referencing, and end-text referencing guidelines.

Your report should include the following sections (see APA for formatting information): Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Method Section, Findings, Discussion and Reference List. Appendices will include a copy of the Participant Information Sheet, Consent Form (unsigned – keep the signed one yourself to maintain the anonymity of your participant) you used, your Semi-structured Interview (including any follow-up questions you might have asked), and your transcript from the recorded interview.

The body of your report should not exceed 8pages (excluding the title page, abstract, references, and appendices). Your report should be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, left justified with 2.5cm margins.
Topic Ideas

You can choose any area of ageing on which to develop your questions. However, remember to be sensitive to the feelings of your participant. Consult your textbook for topic ideas. You must choose a specific topic rather than a general one. For example the topic of memory is very broad so you might focus on changes (real or perceived) in short term memory.

Your topic doesn’t have to be negative (e.g., memory changes with age) but can be positive (e.g., development of wisdom, volunteering).

You should source at least 10 references (2005+) on your topic, older references are acceptable but do not count toward the required 10. Report writing, questionnaire design and interviewing skill references do not count toward your 10 required topic readings. However, using any additional references (including older references) is highly recommended.
Project Process

1. Conduct literature review (and write introduction section)
2. Develop interview questions
3. Produce Participant Information Sheet & Consent Form (using the templates provided on Bb)
4. Conduct Interview
a. Have participant read participant information sheet
b. Have participant sign consent form
c. Ask questions
d. Debrief
5. Transcribe recorded interview
6. Data Analysis
7. Write Report
Interview

You need to develop five open-ended questions which examine the experiences yourparticipant has with the particular aspect of ageing you have chosen to investigate. These questions should be constructed using the principles of good question design that you have covered in previous units. See references at the end of this document.

Questions should be:
a. sensitive to your participant’s feelings
b. open-ended to allow your participant to reflect on their own experience of the topic you have chosen (i.e., avoid yes/no questions)
c. logically sequenced so that they ask about the topic in a meaningful way (for example, if asking about retirement you would ask about the actual event of retirement before asking about new activities the person has taken up or the loss of contact with peers)
d. amenable to follow-up questions (that is, have follow-up questions in mind incase your participant gives a one word answer. For example; Will you tell me how that made you feel? Tell me a little more about that? Are you able to give me an example of that?)

Following the transcription of your interview you will be required to conduct a thematic analysis. You should use the following reference to guide your analysis

Braun, V., & Clarke, V. (2006). Using thematic analysis in psychology. Qualitative
Research in Psychology, 3, 77–101. doi:10.1191/1478088706qp063oa

Marks

This assignment is worth 40% of the total marks for the unit, and is marked out of 40.

Section Guidelines
Introduction Should review recent and relevant literature on the topic chosen. This section should outline the topic chosen in and current thinking with regards to changes (growth, stability, or decline) that are typically thought to occur with age. This section should end with a statement of the aim of the project. You do not need to include specific hypotheses as this is not a research report and hypotheses are not appropriate for qualitative projects.
Suggested page count – 2 pages.
Method This section should include the appropriate subsections as indicated in the APA manual. Your description of your participant should include relevant demographicdetails (these questions do not count towards your 5 interview questions). You should provide a brief description of how the interview questions were developed and of your interview protocol. You should provide an account of exactly how you conducted your interview. You should provide enough detail to allow replication. This should only be relevant information (methodological approach, review of literature for interview development, give example questions, sampling method, an explanation of the analytical technique used). Do not include irrelevant information (e.g., materials – pen, paper, recording device)
Suggested page count – 1 pages
Findings This section should include a description of your key findings organised around themes. Should include clear participant quotes to illustrate key themes.
Suggested page count – 2 pages
Discussion In this section you should reflect on whether the experiences of your participant are consistent with what the literature/theory suggests will happen as one ages. What characteristics of your participant may have contributed to your findings?
Suggested page count – 3 pages.
Page counts are suggestions only. You should determine the length of each section yourself.

Assignment Hints & Tips

1. Get started now!
2. Refer back to previous unit materials (i.e., Advanced Psychological Science Qualitative Methods)
3. Practice writing clearly and concisely
4. Make sure you follow instructions regarding formatting
5. This is an individual project. If you do not have access to someone aged 65+ then post a message on the relevant discussion board. If you have access to a participant who is willing to be interviewed by more than one person then please let everyone know via the discussion boards (however, if two people are interviewing the same person, the topics/questions MUST be different). If this doesn’t work then let me know!
Marking notes for students:

Check marking sheet available on blackboard – the breakdown of marks is listed for each section

Marks are awarded for each section found within the assessment (Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Method, Findings, Discussion, Reference List and Appendices).

If you talk about ageing in general (i.e., memory), rather than a specific aspect of ageing (i.e., perceived changes in short term memory) then you will not be eligible to receive more than 50% of the available marks in the introduction, findings, and discussion sections of the marking criteria.

Assignment 2 Submission Requirements

All students are required to submit Assignment 1 to ‘Turnitin’. There will be a link on Blackboard under the Assessments tab. Students are encouraged to submit draft copies in order to receive feedback from Turnitin regarding the similarity of their work to other sources. However, the assignment that is in the system at 4:30pm on September 24, 2015 will be considered final and cannot be resubmitted or altered. You DO NOT submit a hard copy of this assignment. Please review the notes on Plagiarism and Plagiarism Monitoring in the unit outline. Please note that you cannot submit to Turnitin more than once every 24hrs.

Plagiarism

Curtin University, and The School of Psychology and Speech Pathology, regard plagiarism as an extremely serious offence. As future professionals, you cannot present the work (either words or ideas) of others as though it is your own. You also cannot engage in self-plagiarism., which is where you submit material that you have submitted for previous assignments (either from this unit or from others) and present it as your current work.

Please ensure that you know what constitutes plagiarism and how it can be avoided (i.e., through proper referencing). More information about academic integrity and plagiarism can be found here: http://academicintegrity.curtin.edu.au/

Assessment Late Penalty

Students should be aware that the ‘per calendar day’ refers to a 24hr calendar day from the time of the original assignment submission. For example, if an assessment is due Monday at 4:30pm and is submitted after this time (e.g., is submitted at Monday 4:31pm the same day) it is considered one day late (10% penalty). If the same assignment is submitted before Tuesday 4:30pm it is still considered one day late. If the assignment is then submitted after Tuesday 4:30pm it will be considered 2 days late (20% penalty).
writer just have to make 5 open ended question (has to be perfect and must follow all the rules of open ended question) in given topic
