You are asked to interpret and evaluate the following journal paper attached with this assignment:
Edwards, Tony, Sanchez-Mangas, Rocio, Belanger, Jacques and McDonnell, Anthony, (2015), Why are Some Subsidiaries of Multinationals the Source of Novel Practices while Others Are Not? National, Corporate and Functional Influences, British Journal of Management, Vol. 26, pp. 146-162.
Areas for discussion within the essay are:
Introduction: Key research gaps that the paper is trying to fill
Brief description of current theory and empirical research illustrating incoherencies, inconsistencies and uncertainties
The nature of sample used in the study and an appraisal of its fit for the research question as well as its shortcomings
The major part of your paper (at least 1000 words) is to describe the most significant statistics in the paper and what they mean
Conclusions: Discuss how the researchers could have done the study differently. Here I’m looking for your creative thinking especially linked to seminar discussions of other papers during this course.
I would like you to appraise the journal article in your own words rather than copying material straight from the paper or purely paraphrasing it. This will show me that you have thought about the paper deeply and developed your own understanding. This exercise is aimed at helping you deconstruct quantitative journal articles and develop a reflexive critique towards future articles you may read on your undergraduate programme.

Article

The article dissection must include the APA citation for the article. Only peer-reviewed empirical articles will be accepted. Article dissections should address the following in this order. A. Describe the purpose/aims of the study. B. Note the theory/ evidence-based intervention/or policy being applied; also note whether the author’s use of theory is explicit or implicit and briefly explain why. Identify the key concepts. Are their definitions clear? Do they fit with the theoretical framework provided? C. Describe the methodology (sample, design, analytic strategy) employed. Does the method fit with the theoretical framework? – consider the type of sample selected, the types of variables included, the approach to data collection and analysis. Are the key variables, and their operationalization, what you expected based on the introduction? If the analysis is sophisticated, does the author do a good job tutoring the reader so you can appreciate the analytic approach? D. Describe the key findings of the study. Overall, what does this study contribute to basic and/or applied knowledge? E. What are the key limitations and implications for practice of the study? – note those mentioned by the author as well as additional limitations and implications you observed (make sure to distinguish between the limitations/implications you identify and those identified by the authors). F. What do you think are some good next steps/good questions to ask for future research.

Pilot Test

With the assistance of your formative and summative committees, revise the survey instrument created in Assignment 2 based on instructor feedback (Attached with the feedback from instructor on Word Feedback Track). Then, pilot the revised instrument with 5-10 potential participants (if possible; if not, pilot with 5-10 individuals having similar characteristics of your population). Make revisions to the instrument, based on information gathered during the pilot study, utilizing the assistance of the formative and summative committees. Be sure to adhere to the Survey Administration IRB Guidelines in the syllabus.
Submit the revised instrument and a 1-2 page synopsis describing the pilot test, suggestions made by the pilot participants, and changes made to the instrument. Make sure the synopsis adheres to correct APA style and format.

Behavioral Techniques

Week 2 – Article Critique

Find a scholarly journal article (with *original research; not a review paper) that utilizes at least one of the behavioral techniques covered in the chapters.

Write a thorough, critical review of the article. Include the following sections/information in your paper. You may use this template to help organize your paper: Article Critique Template

1. Introduction, including:

a) Article topic

b) Rough background of the literature

c) Significance of the problem

d) Research question(s) and hypothesis

2. Summary of the research methods, including:

a) Research design

b) Sample and sampling method

c) Identification and measurement of variables

d) Study procedures

e) Data collection

3. Summary of the results, including:

a) Interpretation of the findings

b) Discussion of how the results connect with the research question(s) and hypothesis

c) Discussion of what the study means in the big picture (how does it apply to society in general?)

4. Critique of the research, including:

a) Strengths and weaknesses of the study

b) Discussion of possible flaws in the study and how they are connected to the study design

c) Discussion of the generalizability of the study (both population and ecological)

5. Discussion of recommendations for future research, including:

a) Recommendations to address the identified gaps or flaws in the study

b) Recommendations that indicate an understanding of research design

6. Conclusion, including:

a) Summary of the main points of the study

b) Summary of the critique and recommendations

c) Discussion of how learning theory relates to the research

Be sure to use APA style, including appropriate grammar, spelling, and mechanics, as well as citations and references.

PERSPECTIVES ON PROFESSIONALISM

An original research article which explores an aspect of the complex nature of professionalism and its implications for an area of educational or related practice. I want an introduction on PROFESSIONALISM, what does it mean? what is definition? the implication of PROFESSIONALISM? then move to the type of PROFESSIONALISM, which is reflect in and on action, looking through the litreature,
and that should be related to teaching (reflect in and on action)

Journal

Each week we will have a journal assignment. I’d like to give you a couple of tips. The first thing you will want to do is go to week 5 and read the final project assignment. The second thing you will want to do is choose two organizations, one for-profit and one not-for-profit. I would recommend picking organizations that will give you a lot of material to write about (hint: scandals usually involve ethical dilemmas). This is an ethics class and I often have students pick their favorite charities only to find out they cannot find enough to write about. I feel that the purpose of the journal is to force you to write a little bit each week so that you do not come into week 5 with an overwhelming project to complete. I would like you to use the organizations you have chosen in answering the prompt questions, when applicable. I understand that sometimes these questions do not apply to your organizations; but do the best that you can. I would recommend writing 1-2 pages each week. You may use the form provided; I will also accept a Word document. What I look for when I grade these assignments is a demonstration that you understand the material discussed throughout this course.

Disproportionate Minority Confinement of Youth

( Instructions from teacher)
Use the library software. I recommend that you start  to find the full version of these two articles.

Journal article for Critique
1)
Disproportionate Minority Confinement (DMC) of Youth: An Analysis of State and Federal Efforts
Writing of the Journal Critique
This should be a 4-page paper, written in paragraph form. Add to the 4 pages a title page and a References page. (There should be only one reference, which is the journal article you have just read. Do not use any outside sources. This commentary should be your own.) Use good APA format throughout the paper.

On page 1 of the paper, summarize the article. The rest of the paper should be your comments on what you have observed in the writing, new information learned, and anything of special interest. Give both strong and weak points. If you did not find the article to be interesting, give your reasons.

Does the article follow standard format with an abstract, literature review/background, methods and statistics section, results/findings, conclusion, and limitations of the research? Is the article qualitative or quantitative?

Be sure to comment in depth about the methods and statistics used in this paper. Does he back up his assumptions with numbers and proof.

* Do you feel that his method used was appropriate for this research project? Why or why not? Elaborate on this subject.

* Was the article easy/difficult to read and understand? Was it long enough to be considered a good article? (15 pages or more is standard minimum) Are the sections labeled for ease of reading?

* Is the work credible? What about the references the researcher used? Do you think he did enough research on his topic? Were his references good ones, published in credible journals? Is it recent information? Do you recognize any of the authors he used or the journals where their articles were published? (All of this information can be gleaned from his References section and footnotes, if any.) Is there any evidence that your researcher’s work has been published anywhere else, information about the writer, commentaries on this work by other researchers?

* Do you think the author did a good job in the writing this article and researching the topic? Why or why not?

You be the judge. Use as many of the above subjects (*) as you think apply to your critique. You might want to make both positive and negative comments. Your paper must be at least 4 pages of writing and may be longer.
