Analytical Paper

This paragraph describes the topic of the paper
Reforming the ICJ
The reform that is suggested is design to be applied to the International Court of Justice. A Compulsory Jurisdictional Principle is proposed in order to make disputing states accept the jurisdiction and the decisions made by the ICJ. The ICJ lacks the ability to implement its ruling on disputing states due to the issue of sovereignty, and this causes the limited effectiveness of the ICJ. This reform is proposed due to the fact that as a World Court, trying to settle disputed between sovereign states, the ICJ should have jurisdiction on member states and its decisions should be adhered to. Taking cases to the ICJ and then neglecting its decision is a waste of time and money for both disputing states and the ICJ, it also causes a concern as to what other issues might rise due to the convicted state neglecting the ICJ’s decision. Thus, this reform is recommendedand it will be proposed in accordance with the WTO jurisdiction principle.
These are the instructions provided by the professor to write the paper
I. Analytical Paper
Students will write a two page analytical paper on the following topic.
As an esteemed scholar with expertise in (the international organization of your choice– the International Court of Justice of United Nations), you have been invited to brief the representatives of the organization’s lead decision-making body on how and why the organization should adopt a specific reform (of your choice– A Compulsory Jurisdictional Principle). This paper will be circulated to the member state representatives of the council.
Use at least five scholarly sources and cite them as footnotes, using Chicago style. The writing style should be concise and argumentative. Your main argument should be clear by the end of the second sentence and reiterated in your concluding paragraph. Avoid jargon. Be aware of your audience. Be sure to ALSO discuss:
1. The benefits of such a reform (are they short-term/long-term? Is there evidence that it worked elsewhere? How effective was it? If not, why are you confident that it will be successful? Timeframe?)
You should refer to the WTO (World Trade Organization) when you talk about if this reform has worked elsewhere and has been successful. I uploaded a PDF in which it briefly talks about how this has been implemented in the WTO.
2. The costs of such a reform (who will pay? what will it cost? Is there a risk of lives lost?)
3. The political feasibility of the reform (Can states convince domestic audiences? What
political challenges should be expected in negotiations? Whose support is needed?)
Some additional suggestions by the professor for this topic:
1. The effectiveness of the WTOcompulsory jurisdictional principle. When was it instituted? And why? And then show how it can be implemented on ICJ.
2. Mention ICJ goal –mission statement(Article 94 of UN Charter). ICJ implantation and compliance problem with state agreements, example: US v. Nicaragua case. Look at WTO and what case used this principle.
3. Optional: Look at other IO might have used this approach, Why you think it is important to make the comparison
Tip: Start by writing a three or four page paper. Then revise by shortening it down to two pages.
Format: Word document, Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing, 2 pages

Analytical Essay

What is the meaning of “enlightenment” in the Buddhist tradition, and how does one achieve it? Find two texts within this tradition which describe a journey. Use a comparison of these texts as a basis for your discussion of the spiritual journey within the context of this tradition. (One books that you must use as a source, is Siddhartha, a novel by Hermann Hesse).Your comparison must be supplemented by reference to other texts in the tradition (buddhism). Also use additional sources such as scholarly articles, books, websites, etc.

The emphasis of the analytical essay is on comparison and synthesis rather than on summary of research material. The best essays are ones that follow a real question to a satisfactory conclusion, and establish meaningful connections between texts and traditions.

community analysis

Each student should select a community to analyze. The analysis should include the general characteristics of the community, some history, demographic, the social institutions and particularly, the social welfare agencies. Identify any particular problem that the community is facing and how they are dealing with it or dealt with it.
This paper will require
1- Report on demographic characteristic based on census data on the community
2-Report of physical description of community based on your personal observation
3-identification of resources in the community (stores, services, and businesses, school churches and more)
4-information from interviews of the least two people in the community
5-identification of the community problems and concerns
6-identification of what the community efforts have been made to address concerns or problems
7- Conclusion remarks-
The paper also needs to include how this relates to what you have learned about macro social work in an urban setting, interacting with people and the social work skills that were required during your visits and to complete the project.

Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to work on the ultimate criterion
we care about—job performance. In Assignment 1, you already finished job analysis on a job
you picked. In the first part of this assignment, you will continue to work on the job analysis
results, which are the typical work tasks of the job you picked. You will be asked to design a
performance rating system based on the work tasks to assess how well employees perform at the
job. Next, imagine that you are invited by the organization to provide consultation on how to
make their employees perform better. What types of training would you recommend? What
actions would you take to improve the motivation and positive job attitudes of employees?
Details
In this assignment, first introduce the work/job that you are interested in (e.g., server in a
restaurant), and list the work tasks that are typically performed at the job (e.g., take orders). We
recommend you use the same job you picked in Assignment 1, so that you can utilize the job
analysis results you obtained in that assignment. If you prefer to choose a different job, you will
need to perform job analysis as you did in Assignment 1 to obtain the work tasks.
Then you will choose three different performance rating methods from what we introduced in
class (e.g., graphic rating scale, checklist, forced-choice, BARS, BOS, etc.). For each method,
first construct an item (including the behavioral definition and response anchors), then explain
which aspect of performance the item intends to measure (e.g., customer satisfaction). You also
need to discuss what the possible criterion deficiency (e.g., fails to measure how fast they take
orders) and criterion contamination (e.g., may tap into customer’s satisfaction with the food) are.
Finally, you will specify which rating source you would like to use for the item (e.g., customer
ratings), and why.
Next, you will provide consultation on how to improve employees’ performance through
training. Specify what KSAOs you think that training should be focused on (e.g., ability to
communicate clearly), which method(s) would be appropriate to be used for the training (e.g.,
apprenticeship), and why you think the training would help improve job performance. At the end
of this section, please also specify how you would like to evaluate the effectiveness of the
training (e.g., have a simulation test on how well the servers communicate with customers).
Finally, you will need to propose solutions on improving job performance through motivation
and job attitude. Specifically, two solutions need to be proposed to improve motivation. For each
solution, you will need to provide a detailed action plan (e.g., ask each customer to rate
satisfaction with their server; servers who receive the highest ratings each day get $5 bonus),
explain the theory behind the plan (e.g., reinforcement theory), why you think it improves
motivation, and consequently, job performance. Similarly, two solutions need to be proposed to
improve positive job attitudes. For each solution, you will need to provide a detailed action plan
(e.g., give servers more freedom on choosing their shifts), explain the theory behind the plan
(e.g., job characteristics theory), and why you think it improves positive job attitudes and job
performance. Make sure the solutions you propose are specific to the job you picked.
Requirements
You must use at least 3 sources. These can include the course text and lecture notes,
supplemental readings, websites, or other outside material. Document your research with APAstyle
citations, including a separate references page. At least one source must be outside of
PSYC245 course material and O*NET (the library’s PsycInfo database can be helpful).
The paper should be written as a semi-formal essay. Feel free to write in a creative manner, but
maintain a professional tone. Writing your paper in the order of the given outline makes
grading your paper easier and it assures that you don’t forget an important point. In order
to receive a perfect score your paper must adequately cover all the topics on the list. Our grading
TA will actively search for the topics in your paper to decide the score; points will be deducted if
any topics are missing. The paper should be approximately 4-page in length excluding
references (double-spaced, font size 12, 1-inch margins).

Concept Analysis

Purpose:
This assignment provides the opportunity for the student to conduct a formal concept analysis of one concept found in a nursing theory using an identified framework.
Requirements:

Description of the Assignment
The purpose of this 6-8 page paper (not including the title page or reference page in the page count) is a formal concept analysis of one concept found in a nursing theory, adapting the methodology of Walker and Avant (2010, pp. 157 – 179). The book by Walker and Avant is not available electronically. This book is not needed in order to succeed with this assignment. A summary of the steps in this method is found at the end of this document.

Any nursing theory may be used to find a concept for analysis. Only one concept is analyzed.

As part of the concept analysis, a focused review of scholarly literature is conducted, using a minimum of 3(three) scholarly sources related to the selected concept. A formal literature review can be extensive in critiquing all the relevant literature about a specific topic or area of knowledge. In this assignment, that level of effort is not required. What is expected is an integrated discussion of at least three articles on the concept selected for this assignment. Themes, ideas, or facts about the concept found in the reviewed literature are presented in an organized fashion. Note: research articles about the concept are the best kind of article for a literature review.

The steps in a concept analysis include:
1. selection of a concept used in a nursing theory
2. identification of the aims or purposes of the analysis
3. a review of selected scholarly literature on the concept
4. identification of possible use of the selected concept
5. determination of defining attributes
6. identification of model cases
7. identification of alternate cases (borderline, related, contrary, invented, and illegitimate cases)
8. identification of antecedents and consequences
9. definition of empirical referents
The paper concludes with a synthesis of the student’s new knowledge about the concept. The scholarly literature is incorporated throughout the analysis.

Criteria for Content
1. Introduction includes statements on the process of concept analysis, identifies the nursing concept and nursing theory from which it was obtained, and relates the main topics of the paper. A list of possible concepts is provided below. A substantive discussion of each of the following elements is present. All elements are supported by scholarly literature
a. One aim or purpose of the analysis
b. A review of scholarly literature (minimum of three articles)
c. Two possible uses of the concept
d. Two defining attributes
e. Two model cases
f. Two of the following alternative cases: borderline, related, contrary, invented, or illegitimate
g. One antecedent and one consequence
h. Two empirical referents
2. Concluding statements present the writer’s new knowledge on the concept acquired as a result of writing the paper

Criteria for Format and Special Instructions
1. One of the textbooks required for this course may be used as one of the required references for this assignment (not necessary).
2. Title page, body of paper, and reference page must be in APA format (6th edition)
3. A minimum of 3 scholarly sources on the concept are required.
4. The paper (excludes the title page and reference page) must be a minimum of 6 pages and no longer than 8 pages.
5. Ideas and information from professional sources must be cited correctly.
6. Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and citations are consistent with the writing style specified in the 6th edition of the APA manual.
