Motivation Paper

Motivation Paper
Summarize effective ways to create learner interest.
Instructions
This summary allows the participant to describe their understanding of how to
create learner interest building upon the other elements of teaching that have been
considered.
Read Chapter 10 in the textbook by Wilkinson
Write a 2-3 page paper explaining and summarizing how learner interest
can be created by the teacher. Also include how other aspects of teaching
contained in the “laws” impact learner interest. This paper should be more
than a re-cap of this chapter in the text, integrating many concepts which
have been learned so far.
Ensure the following points are addressed.

0 Explain how learner interest can be created by the teacher using
ideas from the text AND other ideas from experience and other
research.

0 Include other aspects of the “laws” that have been learned, and
how they interact with the teacher’s role in creating learner
interest.

Ensure that you use the Paper Writing rubric to guide your efforts and
apply the required formatting style. Include at least two academic sources.

Practical Application Forum

Practical Application Forum
Research the recent (and ongoing) Greek financial crisis. Discuss how the situation impacts trade, monetary value, and the political environment. In addition, discuss how this might be relevant to the US?

Write your initial post of 250 words

Research Assignment: Mountaintop Removal

Mountaintop removal seriously impacts the environment, but it also brings jobs and access to coal. Coal supplies nearly half of our

electrical power plants. Do some research on mountaintop removal and compile a position paper to answer the following questions:
• What are the main arguments both for and against mountaintop removal?
• After reviewing evidence for and against mountaintop removal, what is your opinion on it—do you favor it or disagree with it? Why

do you feel that way?

For your research, you can do an Internet keyword search on “mountaintop removal.” You can also use the website you saw on the previous

page and these two sources, which present arguments from both proponents and opponents of mountaintop removal. You can take any position

you want, but be sure to support your argument either for or against mountaintop removal with evidence from your research.
• Appalachian Voices -an article from a citizen’s group opposed to mountaintop removal.
• National Mining Association -an article about the economic benefits of mountaintop removal, as well as discussion of the process

and how sites are restored when the mining stops.

Measure the Public's Role in Planning

Measure the Public’s Role in Planning
This week, you will analyze political and legal issues of planning at the local and regional levels.

These issues are at the heart of most planning processes. There are many actors, including citizens,
lobbyists, consultanB, developers, citizen interest groups, and planners, influencing the decision-
making process. This process requires extensive administrative rules and statutes, assuring
transparency and the due process available to residents of the local municipality. Analyze the
impact of community input on the planning process. In your assessment include the following:
Analyze the planning process at a regional level, including the constitutional rights of citizen
participation, the role of advisory groups, and the role and responsibilities of elected ofiicials.
Examine the mechanism for channeling interest group influence or issues related to the application
of administrative laws. Most federal grants include a requirement of public participation in both
the design and execution of the development plan. Analyze the efiects of such requirements on the
development of a plan, which must pass public, legislative, and executive review.

Portfolio Interview

INSTRUCTIONS: Read Carefully
(Previous Outline Submission is attached at the end of these instructions)
Your Portfolio Project synthesizes information gathered from an interview you will conduct with
a manager of your choosing, the knowledge you’ve gained in this course, and your own
experience to create a research and reflection paper.
Be sure to thoroughly read the Portfolio Project description below before beginning to work on
the project.
Portfolio Milestone Deliverables
The following 2 deliverables have already been completed. The Week 5 outline is at the end of
these instructions.
Already Completed (Week 2: Interview Subject and Summary of Theories (20 points of the
Portfolio Project)
Select which of the two Portfolio Project options you will complete and submit. Before 11:59 PM
MST on Sunday, submit the name of the person who will be your interview subject, along with a
summary of the theories that you plan to cover. These theories can change as you progress
through your project, so the information you provide for this Week 2 deliverable is not set in
stone. Instead, this assignment provides an opportunity to begin thinking about your Portfolio
Project and record your preliminary ideas. Your submission should be 200-300 words in length.
Already Completed Week 5: Portfolio Project Outline (20 points of the Portfolio Project)
Submit an outline of your Portfolio Project. Your outline should include bullet points, in the form
of sentences or phrases describing each major argument you want to make, organized as the
final project will be organized. This should by no means be a complete or final document, but
should be sufficiently advanced to serve as a guide for a working draft of your project drafts to
ensure that your writing is clear, thoughtful, and precise.
Interview
Choose a manager to interview with whom you are familiar—ideally, someone whom you
admire and aspire to emulate. Ask her or him for some time—perhaps you can sit down for
coffee—during which you can describe your course learning objectives and discuss what you
have so far taken away from the class (in brief) Ask the manager what insights she or he has to
offer to you at this point in your career.
The goal of the interview is to gain insight into what makes a good manager from the perspective
of someone in a management position. Some topics to touch on in the interview could include
the following:• How did your interviewee come to be a manager (i.e., what career path she or he
followed)?
• Has your interviewee found that professional certifications, volunteering, and continued
education are important factors to career development?
• What has surprised your interviewee most about what it means to be an effective leader
(as opposed to the popular view of what a successful leader is and/or does)?
• What roles are played by managerial goals, objectives, decision-making, and
communication on the job?
• How does the interviewee handle change management at his/her organization and what
specific challenges has she or he encountered?
• What advice does your interviewee offer to someone in your position and with your
short- and long-term goals?
At the close of the interview, be sure to thank your interviewee for her or his time and assistance!
Note: Any documentation resulting from personal interviews by CSU-Global students are for the
sole purposes of fulfilling a course assignment and will not be used as part of a larger study,
published, or distributed outside of the course environment.
Research and Reflection Paper
In the next phase, ruminate on what you learned in your interview—especially anything that
helped you to gain a deeper insight into the topics you studied in the course—and write a
research and reflection paper in which you draw upon learning shared with your instructor and
colleagues, your individual learning, and knowledge you have gained from the interview to
demonstrate a more in-depth understanding of the foundational principles of management. In
your paper, go beyond recitation of memorized facts or regurgitation of information; strive to
synthesize the most important topics of management (i.e., leadership, personality, motivation,
decision-making, communication, and the importance of good management to yourself and to
society) into a hybrid research and reflection paper.
Your paper should integrate responses to each of the following questions in a well-organized and
coherent paper:
• What leadership precepts did your interviewee impart to you (or what can you glean on
the topic as a result of your interview), and how do those dovetail with one or more of the
modern theories of leadership?
• How do the personalities of workers, colleagues, managers, and subordinates impact your
performance in, and experience of, the workplace? How do they interact with one or
more leadership models to create the most effective work environment?
• In light of your interview, the leadership model(s) you’ve discussed, and your own
personality, what one or two tenets of motivation theory have you taken away from the
course?
• How do your understandings of motivation theories impact your conceptions of the best
practices when it comes to making decisions and communicating at work?• Based on your interview and on learning from this course, what does it take to

be an
effective employee, a successful manager, and an exemplary citizen of society?
Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:
• 8-10 pages in length in addition to the title page and reference page
• Formatted according to the APA Requirements
• Cite at least three scholarly sources, at least one of which is not provided in, or linked
from, the course, to support your assertions and strengthen your arguments. The CSUGlobal Library is a great place to find these sources!

Principles of Management– MGT300

Bradly E. Roh
August 20, 2017Portfolio Milestone #2
1. Mr. Toles succeeded in his career journey by using social learning theory. Social learning
theory involves learning from other people by observing and imitation (Miner, 2011). Mr.
Toles became successful in his military career by having self-discipline, gaining
experience over the years, and personal goal setting. The most important experience that
steered the success Mr. Toles was the presence of role models and leaders who
influenced a positive growth in his character development and life journey.
2. Goal-setting theory involves the setting of goals with performance progress. Setting
difficult and challenging goals improves the performance of an individual far much better
than having easy and simple goals (Miner, 2011). Mr. Toles used principles of goalsetting like having challenging tasks, feedbacks, and commitment.

Setting goals is one of
the most effective ways of staying motivated.
3. According to Mr. Toles, certification, volunteering and continued education has been an
important factor in his career development. Volunteering gave him an opportunity to
learn from the role models who were highly experienced in military. He also gained
professional certifications to decorate his military career. Continuing with education
helped in learning about important theories like social learning theory and goal-setting
theory.
4. An effective leader should have qualities like self-assessment, honest communication,
responsive to the needs of the team, understanding the goals and the purpose, team
building skills, goal setting and motivation skills (Collins, 2014). The opposed popular
view of what makes a successful leader is gaining high level education, having a
commanding voice, and should solve all problems. It is a good thing to be learned, but aleader should have addition skills like motivation, decision

making, and goal setting skills
that will boost the growth of an organization as well as personal growth like Mr. Toles.
5. The roles played by managerial goals include motivating the employees, satisfying the
customers, and enlarge the profit margins. These are the core managerial goals because
they touch on three important aspect of an organization which are the employees,
customers and profits.
• The role of objectives includes: makes planning easy, improves coordination
within and organization, promotes commitment and motivation, and improves
organizational change (Horstman, 2016). Setting objectives makes planning and
coordination easy because employees are aware of what they need to achieve and
how to do it.
• Decision-making improves managerial function, evaluates performance, chooses
the best alternative, helps in planning and implementing polices, and helps in
succeeding in business (Horstman, 2016).
• Communication promotes individual motivation to work, helps employees to raise
concern and leaders address them, and builds strong teams within the organization
(Miner, 2011). Communication influences the effectiveness of decision making
process.
6. Mr. Toles handles change management by having a positive attitude even when things
look bad. He believes that controlling moods is a choice and one can choose to be happy
or not regardless of the current situation. Deciding to be positive and outgoing has helped
him deal with change management. The specific challenge he has encountered is that
there is a need to control emotions and remain positive throughout all occasions.7. The main advice Mr. Toles offers for both short and long-term goals

is to use the social
learning theory and goal setting theory. There is need to have a mentor to look up to and
to emulate in career and personal growth. Set goals that are challenging so as to improve
the personal capacity and learn new things. Also set goals that are specific, measurable,
achievable, realistic, and time limit (Horstman, 2016).References

Management

Management
Component 2: a maximum of 4 pages in a conference paper format
Do you agree that “Such strategies must be supported by National and Regional governments as well as other organisations and this support is of even more importance in times of economic turmoil”? Support your answer with suitable evidence. You should then go on to present a concise study of how government and other organisations support innovation and the development of new products (across any sector). More specifically you should summarise the supports that are available for individuals and companies (both large and SMEs) to enable those involved to explore innovation, execute innovation and exploit innovation and review whether or not you feel that these support mechanisms are optimised. If not optimised (in terms of, for example content, delivery, etc) you should propose how you feel that they can be improved. Be critical in your review and ensure that you state your opinions clearly and then back them up with suitable evidence. You can focus your assignment on either the supports available for specific product(s)/industries and/or consider the more general case (for example are certain sectors supported more than others? If so, why do you think this might be?). Feel free to answer this question for the geographic area that you are most comfortable with (for example Ireland, EU, America, Asia, etc) or to compare the supports available in different locations.
Component 2 should be written in a format typically used for conference papers. A suitable template which you can use directly has been uploaded to webcourses. The maximum length of this paper, including references, is 4 pages and this will be strictly enforced.

Guidelines
Please write brief answers which focus on the questions. Make a few key points and provide suitable evidence. Your final mark will be based on showing a marked understanding of knowledge management concepts and the connection between the various concepts.
To answer a question effectively, address the question directly, bring important related issues into the discussion, refer to sources, and indicate how principles from the course materials apply. Try to identify important problems and any implications arising from the answer. Where relevant provide evidence from your own experience (at home, in school, at work, etc)
In undertaking the assignment please try to assume the role of a KM consultant (not necessarily a ‘student’ perspective). You should look upon the assignments as a test of knowledge, management skills, and communication skills.
In citing references follow a recognised format. (Examples available in the DIT “Style Guide”)
Plagiarism/copying are not acceptable: expressing the concept in your own words is fine.

1. Main heading in bold, initial capital

Fig. 1. An example of a figure.
The first paragraph after each new heading should be indented. Text should be left and right justified, providing a straight vertical margin on both sides. Use 9 point Arial type throughout.
All headings in the main text should be numbered throughout, following the scheme shown here. Leave a blank line after main and secondary headings.
The first word of every paragraph should be indented, as here. There should be no space between paragraphs, but do leave a one-line space before each new main, secondary or tertiary heading.
The typing area is 160 mm H 255 mm. With the exception of the title block and the Abstract, all text should be set in two-column format, leaving a gap of approximately 10 mm between the columns. Number each page of the typescript lightly in blue pencil. Final page numbers and running headlines will be added by the publisher. Header material (title, authors, affiliations, abstract, keywords) should be correctly positioned as shown above. All subsequent pages (except the last) should occupy the full type area. The total number of pages must not exceed 4.

1.1. Secondary headings

Use italic type for secondary headings (subheadings), with an initial capital for the first word. If necessary, a tertiary heading level may also be used.

1.1.1. Tertiary headings
Use italic type for tertiary headings (subsubheadings), with an initial capital for the first word only. Do not leave a blank line after the heading.

2. Illustrations, tables and equations

2.1. Illustrations

All illustrations (line drawings, photographs, etc) are to be referred to as ‘Figures’ and numbered in sequence. They should be inserted appropriately in the text, with the figure number and caption below. Ensure that all lettering is fully legible and not too small. All illustrations must be cited in the text (see Fig. 1). Figures may span one or both columns, depending on their size and complexity, but should normally appear at the top of a page or column.

2.2. Tables

Table headings appear above the table, which should be centred on the column or the page as size dictates. Vertical rules should be avoided, and authors should try to ensure that tables are clearly and consistently presented (see Table 1).

All variables must be defined. Use italic for variable names (e.g. x) and roman for operators and functions (e.g. cos).

3. Citations to references

Use the numerical system. References should be numbered sequentially throughout the text, as shown in the following examples: Hurley and Grant [1] have shown that…, in a previous paper [2] the species was identified as… All numbered references must be listed at the end of the paper in numerical order, according to the formats in the References section, for journals [1], books [2] and reports [3] respectively. Where a particular reference is cited more than once, use the same number on each occasion. Ensure that every reference is cited in the text, and that all citations are matched by references in the list. Multiple references should be indicated thus: [1,2,3].

Submission details and deadline

Submit via Webcourses (or by email to if you are experiencing problems with Webcourses) before 20:00 on the submission deadlines listed on the assessment sheet (for the poster and paper).
