Computational Fluid Q1namics – Part B

The current assignment requires testing student’s ability to meet the learning outcomes and to
demonstrate their capability in critically reviewing specialist Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
literature, their understanding on how to set up the assumptions, design scenarios, analyze and
interpret modelled results, and justify accuracy by use of CFD theories via GPO associated software(s)
under Fire Engineering discipline, for instance, Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) or other softwarels), as
applicable.

Upon your completion of current assignment, it is an intent for you to be partially well equipped with
relevant fundamental capabilities on resolving general fire engineering design issues via CFO
modelling for daily commercial conversancy and associated business affairs in future.

The assignment contains only one mini-project associated section and will be gauged by both
qualitative and quantitative considerations. You are required to critically review specialist CFD literature
and appropriately apply relevant theories! similar way forward in setting out meaningful assumptions,
design scenarios, analyzing and interpreting modelled results, and justifying accuracy based on amid
modelling fires in a realistic! partially realistic built environment by use of CPD modelling.

You are required to clearly define your fire engineering issue(s) which has/have to be addressed, to
critically review CFD literature, and to ‘cite, explain, and apply” relevant literature’s “cases, theories
way forward‘ in setting out meaningful assumptions and design scenarios, analyzing and interpreting
modelled results and justifying your accuracy amid solving your defined engineering problems like
practical projects, including but NOT limited to the context as discussed and covered amid the classes.
You are required to model fires in a realistic! partially realistic built environment by use of FDS. You are
NOT required to go to much sophisticated through lots of mathematically derivation of equations but
citing CFD modelling papers and applying their associated “cases & theories“, to facilitate your
explanations and justifications will suffice. This open-ended section will require you to demonstrate
logical justifications and self-reflected arguments to showcase your effort put forth on how to analyze
fire engineering problems by use of CFO modelling.

Please be advised to read, make reference to, and apply relevant journal papers, conference papers,
consultancy reports, fire codes, standards, etc… and make proper Harvard Citations for them.

You are NOT required to go to much sophisticated model (scale/size/complexity of model(s) is NOT an
issue) but essentially illustrating your good understanding on how to make FULL use of your CPU
modelled results for analysis and WELL justify your accuracy.

This assignment, however, will require you to follow typical reporting structure! format! references!
usage of suitable codes of practices!standards!etc… for which are similar to running a fire engineering
consultancy mini-project, as discussed in class, if deemed appropriate! applicable. You can make
reference to any real layout and drawings but your honour and citation to relevant original source(s),
authority and/or Iiterature(s) for current academic purpose is required. You can also alternatively
propose your partially realistic built environmental scenarios. Flexibility is allowed to modify/propose
the/your scenarios as you make referenced to, if deemed logical! applicable. Note that when

conducting CFD model related development and runs at this stage. the main objective is to mimic
resolving fire engineering consultancy related issue(s) that may be of concern and to make good
reference to CFD associated literatures via citing and applying relevant theories/cases, NOT
necessarily to provide a sophisticated modelling BUT sufficiently with appropriate assumptions.
determinations, and justification by presuming a practical consultancy project is run in reality will be an
advantage.
Any additional effort put forth on theories explanation and modelling complexities in aforementioned
sections is NOT required but may be advantageous to be bonus-like credited only.
The size of the assignment shall be about 1,500 words. excluding appendices, if any. Submission will
be in hardcopy with a copy of Turnitin Report for the study report in Microsoft Word. Anything else that
are considered to be advantageous to supplement your work should be included on additional pages
as appendices following the main text and placed after the reference sub-section.

THE LONGMAN ANTHOLOGY OF DETECTIVE FICTION BY DEANE MANSFIELD-KELLEY AND LOIS A. MERCHINO

READ THE LONGMAN ANTHOLOGY OF DETECTIVE FICTION BY DEANE MANSFIELD-KELLEY AND LOIS A. MERCHINO.

1. Read “The Private Investigator” (p. 205-207), Chandler, “The Simple Art of Murder,” (p. 208-219), and Kaufman and Kay, From “Grafton’s Place in the Development of the Detective Novel” (p. 219-228).
2. Read Hammett, “The Gutting of Couffignal” (229-253), Chandler, “Trouble is My Business” (253-294), Paretsky, “Skin Deep” (308-319), and Haywood, “And Pray Nobody Sees You” (319-331).
3. What expectations and standards changed about the detective genre 1 and 2 with the rise of “hardboiled” authors such as Hammett and Chandler? Do you think that these changes allowed for the possibility of different voices, goals, and perspectives? How are these different voices, goals, and perspectives reflected in the stories from this week?

Legacies of Empire

After watching the videos and reading the document in your own words, please respond to the below questions about Mayan, Aztec, and Inca Empires.

1. What big/lasting achievements-Legacies (innovations/inventions) of theirs can we make a connection with in the present?

2. How did the Mayan’s change their natural environment (irrigation)??

3. What were the main differences between Incas and Aztecs? What were some similarities?

Ethics

Question 1
1. Which of the following is a true statement?
A. Pursuant to a sustainability approach to social responsibility it would be inappropriate for a business to undertake charitable acts for the benefit of the community if doing so reduces profits in the short-term but increases profits in the long-term.
B. Social responsibility audits are not mandated for all corporations by the Federal Trade Commission.
C. Under a sustainability approach to social responsibility, the modern business corporation only owes any responsibility to the shareholders since they are the owners of the corporation.
D. One problem with a stakeholder approach to corporate social responsibility is that it is often difficult to determine how the interests of the different stakeholders should be balanced.
0.5 points
Question 2
1. University of Chicago Professor Milton Friedman famously said about social responsibility:
The social responsibility of business is to make money legally.
Big multinational corporations must solve all the social problems in the world.
Business is immoral for not helping out in the community.
When in Rome, do as the Romans.
0.5 points
Question 3
1. Lea, a vice-president of International Pharmaceuticals, Inc., does not apply Utilitarianism to business moral issues. One major problem with this ethical theory is that it
Advocates social change through violent revolution when people are not treated justly
Forces the individual to conform to the norms of society as to what it means to be socially responsible
Justifies human costs that some may find morally unacceptable
Promotes utopian societies such as Plato’s conception of the Just State.
0.5 points
Question 4
1. Social responsibility is best described as a company being:

Write a good essay in which you show how as a Muslim you take this piece of news and how do you react to it. What are the questions that arise in your

mind when you read such news? Your reaction should not be like any ordinary man rather it should be formulated in an academic manner. You are a graduate

student that is why your response is going to be different from the response of the ordinary man. What do they mean by broadcasting such reports. These

news reports try to portray some images or pictures. Such news are baseless most of the time. They do not have any evidence or they have a weak

evidence. Or it could be classified as a weak argument. They want to promote Islamophobia. This is an essay writing. Your response should be organized

in an essay.
