Ellen G White

Students should select a topic of their choice based on Ellen White’s published writings. Topics may range from Adventist history, theology, lifestyle, etc. Students are encouraged to write on a topic of current interest to them. The instructor will provide you with a sample of the format for your research and other guidelines to help you produce a well-written paper.

The purpose of this research paper is to enable students to read the writings of Ellen White on a particular subject to gain a good understanding of that topic.

Students will select a topic of research upon which Ellen White wrote in sufficient length to support about 15 hours of research or reading. In selecting the research topic, students need to be mindful not to select a topic that is too broad (ex: Holy Spirit) which would require countless hours of reading or one that is too narrow (ex: second resurrection) that would be thoroughly researched in one or two hours.

Students will investigate relevant materials on the selected topic in published books and periodical articles of Ellen White’s writings. You may read the relevant articles in the Ellen G. White Encyclopedia as part of this project.

Here are some general topics from which students can narrow their focus:
– Ellen G. White, Inspired Author or Plagiarist!
– Ellen G. White and the Adventist Health Message
– The issue of Prophetic Authority in the Writings of Ellen White
– Ellen White and Dress Reform
– Ellen White’s Role in the Development of SDA Doctrines

Sakai which was called ‘the Venice of the East.’

The starting point of this essay is that Sakai, a representative example of the free cities in the medieval
period, was rated by missionaries in some surviving accounts as ‘the Venice of the East; ‘ and continued
its autonomy until it was later forced to capitulate to Nobunaga ODA. Firstly, show the
general history and systems of Venice, and find some common points to Sakai. The
points would be administrative system, cultural aspects, geographical advantages, and trading
system, etc.

Imagine that you are a counselor in an afterschool drop-in center. You have known 16-year-old Anthony for about a year, as he regularly

comes to the center to play basketball and video games with his friends. You have noticed that he has been coming in less frequently in

the last two months and, when he is at the center, he is quiet and appears angry or sad. One afternoon, Anthony tells you that his parents

are divorcing and his father is moving out of state. He says he feels like his world is falling apart and he might be better off dead.

Main Response
Based on what you have learned in this module, develop a main response in which you address the following:

What are some steps that you would take to help Anthony?
What legal and ethical issues might come up in this situation?
In your post, refer specifically to the required reading and other relevant sources.

You will be graded based on your description, understanding of the 3 ratios and description of at least 3 nonfinancial indicators. Grading will also reflect the accuracy of your calculations, the validity of your conclusions and your ability to clearly communicate your analysis. To complete this assignment, follow these steps.
1. Examine the Income Statement and Balance Sheet provided in the excel file under Week 7 content. This data should be used for this assignment. The data also includes industry benchmarks for comparison.
3. From this financial information calculate the three profitability ratios: a) Total Margin, b) Return on Assets and c) Return on equity.

Urgent Medical Device

Please read and analyze the case study (Urgent Medical Device, Inc.: A Teaching Case Designed to Integrate Data and Analytics inthe Financial Statement Auditing Classroom) and complete Question 1 and 3 below.

Requirements

1) According to the professional auditing standards, an audit team should ordinarily presume
that revenue recognition is a fraud risk. Complete the following steps.
a. Based on your understanding of fraud risk assessment and the case information,
identify at least three specific fraud risk factors related to Urgent. Classify these
risks in terms of What Can Go Wrong (WCGW) with each of the significant
accounts and relevant assertions identified for Urgent’s revenue and accounts
receivable cycle.
b. What do you believe is the most significant risk related to the revenue account for
Urgent?
c. What special audit considerations would you propose in response to the significant
risk you identified above? In your response, consider how you would change your
approach to the nature, timing and extent of evidence in response to the identified
risk.

3) Data visualization tools such as Tableau can be used to help audit teams identify items or
specific areas of higher risk within an entire population. Your data and analytics center
has provided you with a set of Tableau visualizations to consider during your substantive
testing procedures:

i. 3-way match of SalesOrderID, InvoiceID, and ShipID based solely on
SalesOrders database
ii. Sales by territory
iii. Sales by distributor
iv. Sales by quarter
v. Sales by territory by quarter
vi. Product sales by Territory
vii. 4th Quarter Sales by Territory
viii. Sales vs. Sales Goals for 4th quarter by Territory
ix. Sales by quarter by Territory vs 4th Q Sales Goals

a. Using the data visualizations provided in Tableau, compose a memo to be included
in the audit documentation file that identifies any patterns in the data that you
believe may be indicative of specific audit risks. In your memo, be sure to link the
identified risks to the appropriate significant account and relevant assertions.

Learning Objectives of Case

To understand the fraud risks associated with revenue recognition and its impact
on the testing of the revenue and accounts receivable cycle (demonstrated when
students complete requirement 1 of the case).

To learn how to interpret commonly used data visualizations and reach audit
conclusions based on the issues, objectives and alternatives that surface given the
observed facts and circumstances (demonstrated when students complete
requirement 3 of the case).

To understand how to utilize commonly used data and analytics software tools (i.e.,
IDEA and Tableau) within a realistic audit context (demonstrated when students
complete requirements 3, 4 and 5 of the case).

To develop critical thinking skills around the identification of exceptions and risk
factors in client provided data (demonstrated when students complete
requirements 3, 4 and 5 of the case).

Threats, Risks, and Controls

Competency
Evaluate the threats and risks associated with accounting information systems.
Scenario Information
BeGood Baking Supply is a small bakery supply company formed as a closely held corporation. The company supplies raw baking materials, paper goods, and equipment to restaurants and bakeries in three states in the upper mid-west. Most of its business, however, is located in a large metropolitan area. BeGood wants to increase its presence in the region and serve five states. In fact, the owners of BeGood would like 75% of their business to come from throughout the region rather than the current metropolitan area. In order to do this, the owners understand they must diversify offerings and lines of business.
Currently, BeGood has a phone center where customer orders are taken; these orders are then sent to shipping where the order is filled in its large warehouse and shipped within four days. BeGood outsources its shipping to a local trucking company. Once the order ships, all paperwork goes to the accounting department where it is entered into the accounting system. BeGood still uses the same accounting system it has used since the inception of the company. All aging of receivables and other analysis is done using Excel spreadsheets. Purchasing and tracking of inventory are done solely by the warehouse manager. Invoices for inventory purchasing are sent to the accounting department when goods are received.
The owners at BeGood are wondering how they can utilize an online presence and further automate its systems in order to facilitate its growth and diversify its business. The owners may also like to expand into the retail business.
You have been hired as a full-time staff accountant at BeGood Baking Supply, and have been given the task of evaluating and recommending a viable accounting information system for the accounting and financial data of BeGoodin order to facilitate expansion and diversification. As you begin your research, you realize that many departments are involved in the information system, and communication is key.

Instructions
As part of the BeGood AIS assessment, you must address risks, threats, and controls in compliance with the COSO framework. You know the external auditor will also want this information, so you decide to document it now. In preparation for the company external audit, you prepare the following documentation to assist the audit team in starting their work:
1. Document a new AIS with a flowchart that will address the size and scope of BeGood in its current form.
2. List at least three vulnerabilities and appropriate control measures to manage the vulnerabilities for each function (department) within the flowchart.
3. Devise controls based on threats in a general ledger reporting system.
4. Evaluate at least one security policy or procedure that would minimize threats and risks.
5. Grading Rubric
