Exemplification Paragraph – First Draft

Topic: Exemplification Paragraph – First Draft
Using your outline as a guide, write an exemplification paragraph 12-15 sentences in length. Your topic sentence should be a generalized statement, with at least three specific examples that support the topic sentence. The paragraph must also contain a concluding statement. Usually, a concluding statement restates the topic sentence, but in a different way. Finally, do not forget to use transitions (signal words) as discussed in Chapter 3. As you revise your work, pay close attention to unity, support, coherence, and sentence skills. Please be sure to double-space all writing assignments
Here is the outline I created earlier
Title: Exemplification, Online learning requires different skills than on-campus courses
Online learning requires different skills than on-campus courses
A. Balancing the combination of work, family and education
1. Work Schedule vs. Classes datelines.
2. Balance between free time to work in classes and to spend quality time with family
B. Communication in distance learning between students and teachers.
1. Method of communication (Email, Phone, Chat)
2. Professor availability vs. student schedule.
C. Learners with low motivation or bad study habits may fall behind
1. Without the routine structures of a traditional class, students may get lost or confused about course activities and deadlines.
2. Students may feel isolated from the instructor and classmates.

M7 Journal Assignment

Topic: M7 Journal Assignment
In your final journal assignment, create a final paper of 8-10 pages in APA style using at least 6 scholarly references. You can make use of information from your journal entries and discussions (citing yourself), or discussions provided by others in the course (citing that author) as additional sources. You may also have created an approved multi-media project.
Make this your own. You will already have demonstrated in class that you understand Learning Styles. This is your opportunity to demonstrate to yourself that they matter to you, and how they matter to you.
Heres one of my journal assaignments
I’m taking this course because; I’m pursuing a career as a board of education teacher. One of the biggest challenges within a classroom would be, getting kids to listen and keeping their attention. Ones Teaching styles must be flexible and adaptable in order to accommodate the learning style of Students. I’m hoping by the end of this course I would be able to distinguish the difference those type of style and provide a better teaching environment for my teachers. Every Human being in this world is unique and each individual has different ways in ways in which they learn. Learning styles have been formulated over the years to help is recognize the way we approach learning and methods we use to gain knowledge.
Based on the learning style assessment in module 1. I strongly agree that my strongest learning style is visual style, followed by Kinesthetic. I’ve noticed that I usually sit in front of the classroom because it helps me concentrate on what I’m doing and the lesson, and it helps me avoid getting distracted by sights of activities going on around me. I tend to lose focus when there are other things going on around me. I have learned a lot about myself and how to study from reading the first module that I read in the ‘Introduction to Learning Styles’. Before I never realize how many different types of learning styles there were. When listening to lectures, I prefer to take notes for the sake of moving my hands. Not only does this keeps me focus but writing helps me understand and process the “Lecture” better. Also, when given an assignment or even a passage to read I like to scan the material first, and then focus in on the details to get the big picture.
According to the text, a person with Bodily-kinsthetic intelligence their sense is usually well developed, and they enjoy physical challenges and pursuits. These learners learn best by doing, moving and acting things out(Silver, Strong, and Perini p 8). This gave me a better understanding of how my sensory processes are influenced by my environment.
“So Each May Learn”, Silver, Strong, and Perini, ASCD, 2000
Heres another journal entry:
The learning style I wanted to use for my journal is kolbs model of learning. Psychologist David Kolb first outlined his theory of learning styles in 1984. He believed that our individual learning styles Emerge due to our genetics, life experiences, and the demands of our current environment. As I read more about his experiential theory, The learning styles described by Kolb are based upon two major dimensions: Active/reflective and abstract/concrete. The four learning styles that Kolb identified are: Divergers, Converters, Assimilators, Accomodators.
After determing, the learning style that best fits me from the readings through the module and additional websites( Changingminds.org), I have concluded that The “Accomodator” suits me best because I have a hands-on approach, with a strong preference for doing rather than thinking. I do at times, catch myself asking ‘ what if ?’ And ‘why not? to support my action-first approach. I also tend to be a great risk- taker. I feel I’m good at thinking on my feet and changing my plan spontaneously in response to new information.
What I’ve learn in comparison to Jungian adult learning style inventory, is that, I’m a Intuitive-Feeling learner. My assessment showed that I prefer to work in short sessions, rather than finish a task all at once. I see that my work is sometimes scattered and may look chaotic to the thinking types but it works for me when I often engage in a number of activities at the same time and I move from one to the other according to where my interest takes me. Often, I start more projects than I can finish. The assessment seemed to be pretty accurate to my learning style.
Through my assessment I realized that I was that I am a Kinesthetic learner and I’m able to process information by muscle movements and experience that are hands-on. Which made sense to me because I am aware that I am also a visual learner, when I am shown how to do something I catch on quickly .
The things I do now in studying that are within the guidelines includes: read the book chapters and highlight or even sometimes I would read the end of the book to see if it’s necessary to read the whole thing. Before I never really understood the different ways I studied, I just knew what seemed to work. I now understand why those techniques were successful. Now that I am know that I am a kinesthic learner, and have bodily kinesthic intelligence, I look forward to implementing the newly learned studying techniques.

Heres a discussion I submitted:
I choose to focus on comparing and contrasting ‘The African Indigenous way of knowing’ and ‘The Maori Indigenous way of knowing’. While reading page 117 in ‘Merrian and Associates, 2007’ text, I became interested in the The African tradition. The text explained how the African tribe had to observe, imitate, and continuously practice what was being taught. They also focus on several ways of providing learning/knowledge through out their community. First, It is the responsibility for the elders to share their knowledge they have acquired throughout the years to the young, by means of oral instructions and practical activities. Such as, Skills like carving, clay working, and home management(woman only learned this). This is how their community will flourish. In the textbook , they say a major principle the Africans believed in was that knowledge is to “live usefully And happily with ones family, with ones community one’s society, and the sports of one’s ancestors”( Merriam et. Al. 2007, pg 235). Africans generally have deep and ingrained respect for the elders they’re respected, obeyed and considered a source of wisdom. Second, they feel knowledge is stored in the cultural and physical belief, taboos, folklore and myths and an individual’s experiences.
The Maori way of learning drew a similar resemblance with the Africans. The Maori learning is a lifelong and centralized, as they feel Knowledge is to be a collective unit in society. Extended families are a fundamental part of living and learning.
While reading page 80 in the ‘Merrian and Associates, 2007’ text, I read how ‘The Maori Indigenous way of Knowing’ explained how the Maori tribe members would get together formally. They would get together, dine, discuss issues, and collaborate on the knowledge that they were obtaining. Both male and female, played separate roles. The males were to share stories and the females would be in charge of the dining and the kitchen area. The males were taught oratory skills and the females were taught hospitality skills. This is a great example of how similar the African tribe is to the Maori tribe, men and woman learn separate roles that are similar to both tribes.
If I were to select a learning style, I would go with the African way. I feel that because of my learning style (visual/kinsthic) I would be a great hunter and be extremely knowledgeable about my environment and land. I consider myself to be hands on and can see myself dealing with home management. I also can see my family following this way of learning because my wife is a hard working teacher but still is dedicated to taking care of our home. She loves to cook and be a hostess. The difference in our roles as male and female from the African and Maori way is that we both do our parts cleaning the home, washing cloths, washing dishes, etc.

Relying on Chapters 2,3,7 and 8 of your textbook and the Penner & Saperstein article, answer the following questions. Your homework should not be longer than 1 page.
1. What is Penner & Saperstein’s ontological orientation with respect to race? Explain.
2. What are the two ways in which Penner & Saperstein examine or “get at” race?
3. Identify the key variables in the study and describe the relationships between these variables that were being investigated.
4. Discuss whether and how you feel that this study is (or is not) valid with respect to two forms of validity.
No need to cite.

Conscience

Topic: Conscience
Assignment:
Consider the following:
Scientists at Oxford University have made a startling discovery: they’ve found a region of the brain that makes you wonder if you’ve done something wrong, and whether you’d have been well advised to do something better.
There are several things that you should know about this region, which is inside your head, and the head of the lady sitting beside you on the Tube, and the heads of David Cameron and Lady Gaga and Rouge Dragon Pursuivant of the Royal College of Heralds. One, it’s called the lateral frontal pole. Two, it’s unique to humans – they ran tests on monkeys in the course of the research at Oxford and, nope, they don’t have it. Three, it’s the size of “a large Brussels sprout”. And four, it’s a leap beyond current scientific knowledge into realms that can only be described as spooky.
We already knew (he says, hastily consulting his copy of Popular Science for Dimwits) that the brain can monitor decisions it has made. It tells itself: “I have chosen to follow this track in the forest and it’s turning out to be a sunlit pathway/sodden jungle”, but it registers no more nuanced reaction than that. What this newly discovered region does, however, is to identify other paths that it might have been better to take, and register what a dolt the brain feels for getting it wrong.
“This region monitors how good the choices are that we don’t take,” said Professor Matthew Rushworth, who led the research, “How green the grass is on the other side.”
The lateral frontal pole, in short, is like a spouse who is quick to inform you that you’ve blundered and bungled it when it would have been so easy to get it right. It’s the kindly-but-firm voice of authority that tells you to go to your room and mull over what you’ve done, so you’ll be sure not to do it again in future…
Hang on. This isn’t some minor breakthrough of cognitive neuroscience. This is about good and bad, right and wrong. This is about the brain’s connection to morality. This means that the Oxford scientists, without apparently realising what they’ve done, have located the conscience.
For centuries we thought that the conscience was just some faculty of moral insight in the human mind, an innate sense that one was behaving well or badly – although the great HL Mencken once defined it as, “the inner voice which warns us that someone may be looking”. It’s been used by religions as a numinous something-or-other, kindly bestowed by God, to give humans a choice between sin and Paradise.
From: The Independent, Wednesday 29 January 2014
Questions that should be answered:
1) Would Aquinas agree with the author’s judgment that this discovery is in fact about conscience? Explain your reasons by reference to texts we have studied. Cite Aquinas in the way specified for the first assignment.
2) Do you agree? This part of the paper should take no more than one page out of a total of five.
Cite the paper by the numbers in the margin of the text.
-The two books that can be used to cite this paper, I only have in hard copy form. So I would recommend using your library of books and/or the Internet.
-Book #1: Aquinas Political Writings, Edited by: R.W. Dyson, Cambridge texts in the history of political thought.
-Book #2: Treatise on Happiness, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Translated by John A. Oesterle.
Both books can be used to explain the questions

READING QUIZ

Topic: READING QUIZ
In an short essay (at least 250 words, not too much more than 500, please J) first give a clear and comprehensive account of what Brooks understands to be the formal unity of a work.
Second, itemize all those elements that he downplays/deemphasizes and/or rejects….on account of their allegedly not being essential to the meaning of a work of literature, i.e. all those that don’t immediately pertain to its formal unity. Please be cautious in your reading, e.g. just because Brooks acknowledges the existence or essentiality of something does not mean that he thinks it is fundamental to the consideration of the formalist critic.
Third, reflect on which downplayed element (s) (religion, biography, historical context, subjective process, etc. ) that you think Brooks may have neglected most. If possible give a contemporary reference and/or draw the comparison to Aristotle.
(The Wikipedia article on Brooks may be helpful to you. And one heads up: Lionel Trilling, who is mentioned, is another literary critic of the first half of the twentieth century who is close to Brooks intellectually in significant ways, with the exception of his interest in psychoanalysis and historical consciousness [Freud and Spengler]).
Please cite the text and edit your work as you will be graded for both FORM and CONTENT. Be sure your upload to turnitin.com includes your name. Thanks J
This quiz is worth 100 points, but outstanding work will earn extra-credit!

Research paper

Topic: Research paper
Hi there, I am not looking for someone to write my paper. I want to have someone find me one internet health or nursing related article that is intended for the general public and the 6 peer reviewed research articles that either back up the article OR do not. These articles need to be within 5 years old and there are strict rules as to what kind of articles are acceptable to use. These articles must be ones that I can easily access online here in Canada and not any that I need to pay for/subscribe to. I will provide below the directions I will be following to write the paper so you can have a clear understanding as to what kind of articles these need be and what kind of information they need to provide. Thank you SO very much I appreciate your time and efforts! Please contact me if you have any questions or if you want to run by me the topic of the media/internet article you choose before starting to search for the peer reviewed articles to back it up (just to make sure it will be okay to proceed with) Here is the information below…..
A. Find an internet article (e.g. newspaper articles, magazine articles, blogs, other web articles) which targets the general public and/or a specific population of interest. This article must contain information on a researchable topic, or on a published research article.
Then….Find 6 Primary Research Studies
B. Primary Research studies will typically:
A. Mention the name of a research design (e.g. correlation, quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.).
B. Will have a population of interest (subjects) that are humans
C. Quantitative Articles will have statistics in their results
D. Qualitative Articles when you flip though them will use direct quotes in block form to represent their data.
 Ideally your 6 articles will be all Quantitative or all Qualitative, have similar populations, interventions, or dependent variables.
 Bonus Finds but not counted as part of your 6 Primary studies:
 Studies where the method searches literature databases (e.g. is based off a library search).
 Any article that calls itself a systematic review, an integrative review, a meta-analysis or meta-synthesis.
 Stay Away From
 Articles that just provide “information” and have no method.
Background to the Research Problem
 This might be a discussion of the prevalence of disease your subjects are dealing with. It might be the number of surgeries performed each year.
 It might be a failure of the health care system (like public funding creates waiting lists and a prioritization system needed to be developed).
 It might be mortality.
 It might be a physiological circumstance or biological reality (e.g. how does music influence the brain to cause relaxation).
 It might be a theoretical premise (e.g. Lazerus and Folkman’s model of stress and coping describe these key concepts as defining stress…)
 It might be all these things and many many more and the opening paragraphs of your 5 studies will give you hints as to what you discuss.
 You may need additional references , beyond your 5 articles, on your subjects and your topic in order to address this area well.
 Most of this information will be presented in your introductory paragraph and the paragraph that follows.
Describe your Article
 Give a very brief description of the article directed to the general public or your clinical scenario.
 If you chose a web article/blog/news article summarize the focus of the content and what inspired your further investigation into the topic
 If you chose a clinical scenario, describe what happened and how it differed from what you have been taught.
 In both options you need to AVOID first person.
Why is the problem significant/important to nursing?
 What is the nurse’s role in assessing, planning, intervening or evaluating the patient population that is the focus of your paper?
Discussion of research findings from your 5 studies: Compare and contrast
 Report on the findings of your 5 articles in a compare and contrast format.
 It is a poor strategy to deal with your articles one at a time. And there will be a significant grade discussion if you do so.
 You must address this section from the 5 primary studies you examined and these should be the only articles cited in this section. (Exception would be if you also have a systematic review, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis at your disposal).
 You may use a table as one compare and contrast method but the table must be mentioned, discussed, and described in the body of your paper with an appropriate cross reference (See Table 1).
 You should be using the discussion sections (and perhaps the results section) of your 5 articles to help you do this portion of the paper. If you have 5 quantitative studies use the discussion. If you have 5 qualitative articles, you will need to use the results and do a mini- analysis of the themes presented in all your articles.
Discussions of strengths and weaknesses of these studies
 Use the discussion section of your 5 articles. Each should have a section describing study limitations and possibly strengths.
 If all the studies in your pile have been descriptive (non-experimental), this is a failing of the body of research.
 Look for flaws in the research design. Look at what each author says are the limitations to their research study (discussion section of your 5 articles). Do all the studies or do several of the studies mention the same flaw? E.g. do they all use convenience samples?
 What are some of the good aspects of the present research? Do they all have interventions? Are those interventions any good?
Discussion of research findings from your 6 studies: Compare and contrast
Compare Research Literature to the Internet Article
 How does the peer reviewed research compare to the information contained the in internet article that was the basis of inspiration for your topic?
 How does the peer reviewed research compare to real life practice as witnessed in your clinical scenario?
Nursing Implications
 This section differs from the section earlier in your paper which asks you to identify the importance of your topic to nursing.
 Now that you have completed an analysis of what information is out there in the general public (or clinical area) and what the research says is best Evidence Informed Practice, discuss what nursing needs to do next.
 If you have chosen a directly nursing focused topic and your research has been located in primarily nursing journals, you should be able to draw your content for this portion of the assignment from the discussion, or conclusion section of the articles you already have. (Nursing journals require authors to identify nursing implications as part of their discussion or conclusions).
 If you have chosen a less nursing focused topic you may need to go to the nursing literature to discover how nursing practice can change or be impacted by this issue.
Final notes:
 Papers should be 5-7 pages in length excluding title page, reference list and appendixes/tables.
 You can write the paper in any order that makes sense for your topic.

Lesson 8 Environmental Autobiography Overview

Topic: Lesson 8 Environmental Autobiography
Overview
In this assignment, you will be using information from the readings, DVDs, and your past assignments (specifically, your short paragraphs on of your own personal values and views toward nature and natural landscapes developed in each lesson) to develop your own “Environmental Autobiography.” (I will upload the readings and some of my old assignments later. )
Objectives
This assignment helps you achieve the following lesson objective:
To identify images of important landscapes (e.g., parks, playgrounds, etc.) in one’s past.
To further develop your own values toward nature/landscapes.
To write an “Environmental Autobiography”.
Questions
This lesson requires you to prepare an “Environmental Autobiography.”
All of us carry the images and values of childhood landscapes; those environments we encountered, smelled, listened to, explored, and valued during our younger years. The images of these environments affect us in numerous and sometimes subtle ways. Understanding one’s own environmental history provides insight to one’s current environmental values and ideal landscapes. The memorable landscapes of childhood and youth may directly shape adult values by influencing one’s interpretation of current environments.
Identify one or two outdoor environments from your childhood and youth (between birth and 17 years of age) that are important to your own value system and/or are associated with fond memories. Integrating ideas from at least two different class readings, write an essay depicting important and valued meanings you associate with environments of your past. Briefly identify the environment in both objective (e.g., Where is it? What did you do there?) and subjective (e.g., How did you feel in it?) terms. The major portion of the essay should be an explanation of your personal environmental meanings that applies conceptual material from class.
Submission Requirements
In this assignment, you are required to develop an “Environmental Autobiography” which allows you the opportunity to express your own personal views and values toward nature and natural landscapes.
The paper should include a cover page. If citations are used, they should be given to all references used throughout the text (APA format). Quotations taken from other sources should be clearly designated with the use of quotation marks. All papers should be double spaced, 12 point font (Calibri, Arial, Garamond or Times New Roman) with 1 inch margins. The text of the paper should be at least 5 pages and no more than 7 pages in length excluding the cover page and reference page.
This assignment is worth 100 points.
