This research paper will focus on how CNN (www.CNN.com) perpetuates the Black-White binary (Perea, 1997) and reinforces the invisibility of Asian Americans within the affirmative action debate post 2003. Please sort through articles on www.cnn.com to determine how media has largely contributed to the silencing of Asian Americans as it relates to affirmative action policies within higher education. Use the Black-White binary as a framework when parsing through the articles. I need the actual findings from the cnn.com research with citations to specific articles illustrating how media reinforces the affirmative action debate as a Black-White issue. Please reference and elaborate on the relevant Supreme Court cases including Grutter v. Bollinger (2003) and Fisher v. University of Texas (2013). Also highlight the invisibility of Asian Americans in the discussion and the problems of their model minority status by specifically looking at those Supreme Court cases. Guidance for the Annotated Bibliography/Filmography
An annotated bibliography gives an account of the research that has been done on your chosen topic. An annotated bibliography is more than an alphabetical list of research sources – it provides a concise summary of each source and some assessment of its value or relevance.
• Your annotated bibliography should include a selection of at least 5 academic sources (i.e., book, journal article, or a book chapter).
• Use the correct bibliographic format. For example:

The body responds and adapts to the type of lifestyle and physical activity in which individuals participate. The case study below shows the lifestyle and physical activity for a male teacher, Shaun. Read the case study and then respond to the task below.

Shaun
Shaun is a 35-year-old Maths teacher at a comprehensive school. Shaun used to be a keen footballer and wants to start playing five-a-side football after a long period of inactivity. Shaun is out of condition and he realises he is not fit enough for the demands of football so he joined a gym with a fellow teacher and started training. For the past three months, he has been training four times a week to improve his cardiovascular fitness and his muscular strength and endurance.

A typical training week looks like this:
Monday – weight training for 45 minutes
Tuesday – running (30-minute run)
Thursday – weight training for 45 minutes
Saturday – circuit training class.

Weight training

Shaun does a session of ten exercises that cover all the muscle groups of the body. He started off doing two sets of 20 repetitions for the first month, then in the second month he progressed to two sets of 15 repetitions with a higher resistance and in the third month he progressed again to three sets of 12 repetitions with a higher resistance.

Running

Shaun does one session of steady-state running for 30 minutes on the treadmill and measures how far he runs for each session. He has progressed from covering 4000 metres in his first sessions to covering over 5000 metres a session.

Circuit training

This consists of three circuits of 12 stations where he does 30 seconds work followed by 30 seconds rest.

Explain six chronic (long-term) adaptations that you would expect to see in the muscular and the cardiorespiratory system as a response to Shaun’s three months of increased training.

—Your essay must be written in the 3rd person using academic writing and APA referencing. Your essay will be based on the issues identified in your case study. You will need a minimum of 5 other references. To deconstruct you will need to identify the issues in the case study using the literature to help you unpack the issues in the case study. To confront you will use the literature to help you unpack your own thinking around the issues, as this is written in the third person you will need to use terms like…it seems that or according to…it is often thought that…this also helps you to unpack some of the ‘taken-for-granted’ notions in the thinking and practice around the particular issues in the case study. You will aslo use the literature to help you theorise about the issues – what is the current thinking and practice around these issus and what might be different. Finally you will conclude with thinking otherwise, which is based on what has been learnt and understood by doing the research (from more than one perspective) and by listening to other perspectives in the Professional Conversations.

Case Study Two: Joan’s family

A mother (Joan) is a single parent with two children, Jessica is 10 years old and her brother Ryan is 4 years old. Concerns about this family were first raised by the school when the children were having very poor school attendance. Despite several attempts by the school staff to encourage the children to come to school, their attendance at school continued to be very irregular. When the children did manage to attend school it was noted by their teachers that the children appeared neglected because of their unkempt appearance and seldom had any food for lunch. Ryan’s teacher also noted that Ryan was very withdrawn when he did attend school. Joan has been called in by the school a number of times but never turns up for the meetings.

The child and family liaison officer is asked to do a home visit and on his/her initial visit to the family learns that Joan has recently left a violent relationship. Her mode of coping with the separation and trauma of the violence inflicted upon her is to use alcohol in ever-increasing amounts. She is finding it increasingly difficult to provide basic care and get the children to school. Her 10-year-old daughter (Jessica) is staying up late and is acting as a companion for Joan. Jessica tells you she is finding it very difficult to get up for school and get her brother and her ready so most of the time they just don’t go. Jessica also tells you she is worried about her mother as she is scared that her father may come back and hurt her again.
