Role of education of women in combating climate change

Role of education of women in combating climate change
Critically discuss the role of the education of women in combating global climate change. Consider specifically the consequences of improved access to, and the availability of, education for women in developing countries across the world, particularly in relation to employment opportunity and birth-control issues. Critically discuss also the empowerment of women in decision making and political arenas, especially in relation to the prevailing cultural and religious norms of various countries. Try to calculate how much the improved education of women might offset / contribute to future greenhouse gas emissions.

The Incorporation of the Organic Food Industry

Memorandum

No outside sources are allowed.

Assignment 1

Prepare a 1-page memorandum (550 words) that answers question #2. In order to answer this question, you will have to incorporate your conclusions about the Porter Five Forces Analysis in the industry (question #1). Choose and discuss (at least) one issue that the 787 analysis addresses and (at least) one that it does not.

Question #1 – Will we use the Five Forces framework to understand the threats to (and sources of) profit in the Very Large Aircraft industry. Note that the Wall Street Journal article on the Iberia purchase focuses on the issue of price competition. Remember to look for the fundamental economic issues that lead to price competition, not just descriptions of the price competition itself.

Question #2 – With the results of your Five Forces analysis in mind, consider Boeing’s decision to introduce the 787 Dreamliner aircraft. What issues raised by your Five Forces analysis do you think the 787 will address? What will it not address?

Assignment 2

Read the Enterprise Case in the uploaded additional file.

Prepare a 1-page memorandum (550 words) that answers question #3. In order to answer this question, you will have to identify the important components of Enterprise’s strategy that Question #2 asked you to think about. Choose and discuss (at least) one characteristic of Enterprise’s target hires and describe how it is complementary with some other aspect of Enterprise’s successful strategy.

Question #1 – All car rental companies provide customers with the temporary use of a car. How do Enterprise’s original target customers in the local or “home-city” market—and their needs—differ from the target customers of their major competitors such as Hertz and Avis? How does Enterprise match (or not) the needs of their local market customers?
Question #2 – What choices of resources, capabilities and activities has Enterprise made in order to provide car rentals with the attributes you described in Question #1? In other words, what makes their particular car rental “product” possible and profitable?
Question #3 – Enterprise’s HR strategy contributes significantly to the firm’s success and consistent profitability. Why are people so important to Enterprise? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this HR strategy? Are you troubled by Enterprise’s high employee turnover rate, given their substantial upfront investment in employee recruiting and training?

Assignment 3

Read the Disney Case in the uploaded additional file.

Prepare a 1-page memorandum (550 Words) that answers question #3. You will need to draw on your answers to questions #1 and 2 in order to answer this.

Question #1 – What were the sources of competitive advantage for the original Disney company (meaning, the company as created by Walt Disney)? In what ways did the company during this time period create (and capture the value of) synergies among different business lines?

Question #2 – Evaluate Eisner’s strategic decisions during the early part of his tenure (1984-1993). What do you think were the most important decisions he made for the profitability of Disney, both immediately and long-term? (Hint: Pay attention to the information in Exhibits 1, 2, and 4-8 in answering this question.)

Question #3 – Do you think the aim of Eisner’s early decisions was more to reinforce Disney’s original competitive advantage or to restore the company’s profitability by grounding it in a new basis for competitive advantage?

research week 2

This is a two part assignment that will be submitted within one document.

Part I
Part I checks your understanding of key concepts from Jackson and Trochim & Donnelly.

Answer the following questions:

Jackson even-numbered Chapter exercises (pp. 220-221; 273-275)
What are degrees of freedom? How are the calculated?
What do inferential statistics allow you to infer?
What is the General Linear Model (GLM)? Why does it matter?
Compare and contrast parametric and nonparametric statistics. Why and in what types of cases would you use one over the other?
Why is it important to pay attention to the assumptions of the statistical test? What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed?

Part II
Part II introduces you to a debate in the field of education between those who support Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) and those who argue that NHST is poorly suited to most of the questions educators are interested in. Jackson (2012) and Trochim and Donnelly (2006) pretty much follow this model. Northcentral follows it. But, as the authors of the readings for Part II argue, using statistical analyses based on this model may yield very misleading results. You may or may not propose a study that uses alternative models of data analysis and presentation of findings (e.g., confidence intervals and effect sizes) or supplements NHST with another model. In any case, by learning about alternatives to NHST, you will better understand it and the culture of the field of education.

Answer the following questions:

What does p = .05 mean? What are some misconceptions about the meaning of p =.05? Why are they wrong? Should all research adhere to the p = .05 standard for significance? Why or why not?
Compare and contrast the concepts of effect size and statistical significance.
What is the difference between a statistically significant result and a clinically or “real world” significant result? Give examples of both.
What is NHST? Describe the assumptions of the model.
Describe and explain three criticisms of NHST.
Describe and explain two alternatives to NHST. What do their proponents consider to be their advantages?
Which type of analysis would best answer the research question you stated in Activity 1? Justify your answer.

Advanced Database Technologies

¬Online Ordering Process for Active Bicycle Company:

The process begins when a customer submits an online order form to Active Bicycle via the Web. The customer supplies hisor her name, address, email address, model number of the bicycle they desire, and credit card number.

When the customer clicks on the submit button on the Web page, Active Bicycle’s system gets approval for the transaction from the credit card company. If the credit charge is approved, the system assigns a number to the sales order, displays an order summary for the customer to print, and sends a confirmation email to the customer. If the credit charge is denied, the customer is asked to provide a different form of payment.

The system then generates a two-part invoice, a stock release form, and a two-part packing slip form. The stock release form is sent to the warehouse department, and the two-part packing slip and one copy of the invoice are sent to the shipping department. The other copy of the invoice is maintained in a holding file in the accounting department to be filled later with the shipping certificate.

In the warehouse, employees use the stock release form to pull the appropriate inventory to fill the order. Assuming there is enough stock (for the purposes of this exercise you can assume there is enough stock), the bicycle is packed into a special box for shipping, with added protection so it will not be damaged in transit. Using the stock release form, the warehouse clerk also must take the information from the stock release form and manually fill out a shipping certificate, which is set to the accounting department for a further check that the items are being released from the warehouse. The boxed inventory, along with the packaging lip, is then sent to the shipping department.

In the shipping department, one copy of the two-part packing slip is placed in the shipping department’s file cabinet, and one is included with the goods to be sent to the customer.

Back in the Accounting Department, the shipping certificate is matched with the copy of the invoice, and the accounting database is updated to record the completion of the order. The accounting program then submits a payment request to the credit card company and both the shipping certificate and the invoice are filed in the accounting office,

Task A

Option A: Use a process modeling notation like UML Activity Diagrams to model the process previously described. It is important to provide an accurate model of the process. This model will be used for further analysis.

Option B: Alternatively you can provide a real process model from your work environment or industry. However before you committing any time analyzing the process you must OBTAIN APPROVAL from your instructor.
Task B

Use the process designed in Task A. Design a process behavior chart to measure the performance of the process for any variable you think is suitable. For example one variable that might be necessary to monitor in the above case could be “on time product deliveries”. The following items are required:
a) You need to provide data for a period of at least six months.
b) Based on the data provided design a process behavior chart.
c) Based on the chart you have designed provide a detailed interpretation of the data presented to you by the process behavior chart.
Task C

You are working as the senior BI Analyst for the Active Bicycle Company (or for another company if a different process model has been adapted). You have been assigned to produce accurate estimations of the process time and process cost. It is important that you make rational and realistic assumptions about the time required for each activity to complete and the salaries an organization needs to pay for supporting these activities. As part of this endeavor you need to produce the following estimations:
1. Process activity & Cycle time
2. Annual volume of awards
3. FTE for all the employes envolved in the process
4. Total Labor cost
Task D

Study carefully the process described in the script. Identify at least 2 important Key performance Indicators. For each indicator identified:
1. Identify the Balance Scorecard Perspective
2. Identify the type of KPI (lagging, leading)
3. Provide data for a period of six months.
4. Design and implement a suitable dashboard that includes charts, indicators and gauges to facilitate management decision-making. You can use the online system to do dashboard this is website: (https://app.clicdata.com/v/Cwv7ycCDiwn).
You should have all of these criteria:

SEARCH a Personal Experience with the Loch Ness Monster

Research question: Is the eyewitness claim about the Loch Ness Monster reasonable and possibly true?

double-spaced, in MLA format. Your Works Cited page does not count toward the assignment length.

Sources: You need at least two credible secondary sources. Your primary source is How to Think About Weird Things. You may find your two secondary source on the Internet, in the ECC library, in the library databases (available on MyECC), or any other kind of credible source.

Thesis statement: In this essay, your thesis statement should be your answer to the research question.

Explanation: SEARCH the following passage, from page 152 of Weird(ISBN-10: 0078038367):

Well, the day that I saw the [Loch Ness] monster, it was the end of September 1990, and I was driving back from Inverness. I came up the hill where we came in sight of the bay, glanced out across it, and saw this large lump, is the best way to describe it. The nearest I can tell you is it looked like a boat that had turned upside down. Pretty much like that one out there, actually, same sort of size. If you took that boat and put it in the entrance to the bay, which is where I saw the monster, that’s the size of it. About 30 feet in length, and nearly 10 feet in height from the water to the top of the back. It was a bright, sunny day, the water was bright blue, and it really showed up against it. It was a mixture of brown-greens, sludgy sort of colors. I looked at it on and off for a few seconds, because I was driving. Must have seen it three or four times, and the last time I looked, it was gone! (Val Moffat, eyewitness quoted in NOVA Online, “The Beast of Loch Ness,” accessed December 2, 2003)

Helpful hints:

Include concepts discussed in Chapters 1 through 5 in our textbook. For instance:
Do you spot any logical fallacies in the claim?
Can you diagram the logical argument used in the claim?
What guiding principles are you able to use when looking at the claim?
How does the reliability of personal experience affect the claim?

Guidance Notes

This is an individual assignment. You need to undertake a small research project in the area of international and comparative human resource management. Note the following guidelines
1. Critical Examination of Literature: Present a literature review on the selected topic or theme by referring to the updated academic literature. You should follow the standard academic citation practice.
You need to critically examine the selected topic or theme, International and Comparative Human Resource Management functions, and theories around it and present your own perspective from an academic point of view. You may highlight, discuss, generate debate and put forward your own perspective on the topic.
2. Empirical/Practical Perspective: You need to discuss and relate the above review and examination in an empirical/practical context (e.g. in relation to organisation, society, practices, country, or any other context) you are familiar with. Practical examples and/or empirical perspectives on the selected topic or theme should be described and analysed in light of the presented review and examination. Please note that the empirical/practical context can be your own or, if not appropriate, it can be one that you are familiar with and whose relevant features you should specify and examine in your essay. Note you need to demonstrate cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis, including the capability to identify and critically evaluate theoretical and practical assumptions, evaluate empirical evidence, and define terms and subjects of enquiry adequately. For emphasis, the organisation and/or national setting can be your own or, if you feel that is not appropriate, an organisation and/or national setting you are familiar with. The relevant features of the organisation/ national setting should be briefly introduced in your introduction. You then go forward to critically discuss best practice aspects of your chosen topic applying your case understanding to the features of your debate throughout your essay. (The question is not a test of your knowledge of a particular organisation or national setting, but of your understanding of the issues involved in applying a ‘good practice’ model in a particular organisational/national context.)

3. Academic Format: You need to present the assignment in an excellent academic format. An academic paper should contain a strong introduction. This should introduce and define the key concepts relating to your debate. You should outline the aims and introduction of your essay. Finally, you should provide a brief overview of the organisation/national context you have chosen to focus on in the introduction. Your conclusion should summarise the key conceptual messages in your essay. You should then outline how your essay has met your original aims and objectives. Review current thinking on your chosen topic by outlining the main points of related academic theory/debates. Your essay should refer to up to date literature. Cite the references you use, observing standard citation conventions (using the Harvard method). Examine the topic critically from an academic perspective. For example, you are encouraged to highlight and discuss the main points of debate that surround different academic theories and/or debates relating to the topic. Discuss the extent to which these key theories/debates on this topic are relevant / applicable to an organisation and/or a country with which you are familiar. You may choose to refer to your actual or prospective role in the organization in this aspect of the discussion.
• Please follow the guidance on writing your introduction and conclusion above.
Some final Advisory Notes:
Your essay should be grounded in relevant academic theory. It is anticipated that essays will contain a minimum of 10 -15 references to sources such as textbooks and journal articles. You are not likely to have covered enough theory if you have not consulted at least 10 -15 articles or books – for those wanting a higher mark then wider reading would be needed. Your essay must be referenced throughout. Better answers use authors’ views to create a full critical debate. A full listing of these references should be presented, using the standard prescribed referencing format, at the end of the essay.

Question 2:
What are the difficulties for MNCs to ‘transfer’ their human resource management practices from their home base to other parts of the world? Discuss using examples. Refer to slides: MNCs, International assignments and host communities, training and development of Global leaders and expatriates

NO PlAGARISM!!
