What would the cost benefit for the University be to pay a professor at flat amount of $5000 to write a textbook for a class? Assume that the textbook is good to be used for three or four years of classes before needing to be updated. Would a fee of $50 per student be adequate to cover the $5000 upfront charge for paying the professor to write the text book? Consider the class sizes of 10, 20, 30 and 40 students.
a. What is the advantage to the student for this textbook to be written by the professor as described above? You may say it is a disadvantage.
b. What is the advantage to the University to have the professor write the textbook? What is the return on investment for the University depending on the number of students in the class? You may say it is a disadvantage.
c. What if the book is used one semester each school year, what’s the return on investment? What is the return on investment if the book can be used two semesters in a year?

VISIT AN INDIAN RESTAURANT!

 

it’s simple. You Go to an Indian restaurant for a meal, and look around. Consider the decor, the artwork, the music (if there’s music playing), the aroma, and of course the food! Do you recognize any imagery or does the experience connect to Indian Religion or Culture? Does the preparation of the food or even the ingredients suggest something about the culture or region where the cuisine originated? A Corpus-based Study of the Grammatical and Lexical Errors Committed by Learners of English at Basic Education Diploma Level in “A” District in Oman

 

– You need to transfer their pdf papers to text and made a DIY corpora then analyze the data.
The DIY corpora must indicates the errors and compare between the lexical and grammatical errors so I will also include the answer key file.
I will include all the needed file and some articles explaining how to make the DIY corpora.

– Rationale for the study: (why you think the study needs to be done)
Learners keep committing the same errors year after year and by analysing the errors I believe that there will be a chance to find the reasons of the errors and help to avoid committing the same errors every time. The study will reveal the most common errors and will raise teacher’s awareness about the common errors made by Omani learners.

– Questions the study aims to address:
What are the most common grammatical and lexical errors committed by learners?
Which are more frequent errors, grammatical or lexical?

– Research Methodology: (how you intend to get and analyse data)
It will be a homemade corpus. Exam papers will be investigated by using corpus linguistic procedures. These exam papers are digitized and they will be from the Tests and Examination Administration Department in the Ministry of Education in Oman. They will be from first semester in the school academy year 2014-2015. The examinees’ age is about 17-18 years old. They have been taught English as second language in Omani schools since they were at the age of seven.

– The structure of the dissertation
Chapter 1:
Introduction (1000–1500 words)
•Says what the topic is, why you became interested in researching it, and discusses the nature of the issue or problem that the dissertation deals with.
•The research questions could also be introduced at this point.
•Finally, you outline the structure of the dissertation.

Chapter 2:
Review of literature and theoretical framework (4000-5000 words)
This may also extend to two chapters in some cases.
•Outlines the findings/issues raised by other studies that are relevant to your project.
•Should be state-of-the-art in its focus.
•Should be critical rather than just a descriptive list of studies you have read.
•Addresses contextual issues relevant to your study.
•Leads up to a statement of your research questions.

Chapter 3:
Methodology (approx 2000 words)
Generally includes:
•Description of participants.
•Description of the research method(s) and the procedures employed to collect and analyse data.
•How you have ensured validity and reliability of your data.
•Outline of piloting stage.
•Description of how ethical issues were addressed.
( I have contacted the authority in the ministry of education and they gave me a letter to receive the needed data. It took more than one month to receive the entire data file as it was the second semester examination time for the diploma sttudents and after that declaring the results so they were busy and even the computer processing the data that I need was slow.)

Chapter 4:
Results (4000-5000 words)
•Presentation of your findings as they relate to your research questions.
•If new themes emerged from the data, you can set them out here.
•Be critical in how the data is presented.
•Avoid merely listing answers to your questionnaire/interview guide.

Chapter 5:
Discussion (3000-4000 words)
•Compares and contrasts your findings to those of the studies you discussed in the lit. review.
•Did you find something similar to the other studies or something different?
•If different, why do think this was? What are some potential causes?

Chapter 6:
Conclusion (approx 1000 words)
•Summarises main findings (not a cut and paste job!).
•Outlines practical implications of the research by revisiting the research questions.
•Sketches future research possibilities.
•Discusses limitations and drawbacks of the project.

This research paper will focus on how CNN (www.CNN.com) perpetuates the Black-White binary (Perea, 1997) and reinforces the invisibility of Asian Americans within the affirmative action debate post 2003. Please sort through articles on www.cnn.com to determine how media has largely contributed to the silencing of Asian Americans as it relates to affirmative action policies within higher education. Use the Black-White binary as a framework when parsing through the articles. I need the actual findings from the cnn.com research with citations to specific articles illustrating how media reinforces the affirmative action debate as a Black-White issue. Please reference and elaborate on the relevant Supreme Court cases including Grutter v. Bollinger (2003) and Fisher v. University of Texas (2013). The iProfile program is a wonderful and powerful tool for analyzing your diet. Consider analyzing friends and family too by creating multiple profiles. However, students often make data entry errors that dramatically impact the analysis. So, I created this assignment to master iProfile before completing your major project.

The steps:

Via Canvas, enter the WileyPlus Program. Click on iProfile.
Look for the Profile tab, and create a new profile. The system needs information about your gender, age, and activity level so select the appropriate nutritional standard.
Carefully select activity level. If you select too high an activity level, the system will overestimate your calorie needs.
Look for the Food Journal tab, input the first food you ate yesterday, and search foods. Select portion size and add to a meal.
Note: this is where most of the errors begin. For example, searching for iced tea will include an option for powered tea. Students will input 2 cups of tea and the system will calculate the calories in 2 cups of tea powder.
Since you are over 21 years old, you can certainly input alcohol intake. Make the analysis a true reflection of your diet.
Continue adding foods to equal one day’s intake.
Next, click on food journal. Copy the food list in the food journal. Paste into the assignment into the Canvas assignment.
Note: I want the food list, not the nutrient analysis. You’re welcome to analyze your diet, but my goal is to review your food list to ensure you’re making reasonable choices.

What are the sources of China’s comparative Advantage? How does this compare with that of the UK

 
A 1,500 word essay on a current issue within international trade and commercial policy, analysed using the Classical and Heckscher-Ohlin Models of Commodity trade so as to arrive at contrasting policy prescriptions. This essay is written under test conditions.
First, I would try to understand the question and identify key points/words, e.g.
Sources: what has China got that makes them competitive in production and international trade? To keep your answer in context, you will need to use the various theoretical convepts of comparative advantage.
What is comparative advantage? How is it different from absolute advantage? You will therefore need to start from the Classical theory of trade up to Linder (our next lecture) to trace the various theoretical explanations for the gains to trade.
As China might represent the developing world, so will the UK (the comparator) represent the industrialised countries.
Most of the background informstion you will need here is available/accessable from your lecture notes and recommended texts.
Second, You will need to know some background information about China and the UK with respect to their economic, as well as political structures. These are very important for understanding their trade patterns. For e.g.
China is a transitional economy moving from a command system to a more free market system. Production, consumption, trade and investment have all been liberalized to a greater or lesser extent.
The UK, on the other hand, have always boasted of a free market economy, from which many of our theories are claiming would lead to the highest gains from trade. It is thought to lead to efficiency in production, consumption and trade.
Most of the information you need here could be got from the WTO website. For e.g., China’s trade profile, from which you can assess their endowments, population, skills level/human capital/technology, demand, exports/imports and so on. Has the pattern of their trade changed over the transitional years?
Third, Here is where you start combining the information in the first and second parts above.

Follow the theories in the order in which they were tought in class and look at China vs UK. You can also draw on information relating to othe developing and industrialised countries

Technology (PLC) theories – other theories that explain Leontief paradox
Linder’s similarity of preferences (demand reversal)
Other theories could also be included if required
Conclusions: based on arguments from above.
