Assignment and Rubric for Essay #1: Traditional Argument (Claim with Reasons)
You will write a formal argumentative essay following the traditional (claim with reasons) model, incorporating research from a variety of sources to support a position/thesis of your choice on the topic of College Education. You are required to use four sources for your research: at least two of which must come from the assigned essays in your text (They Say/I Say, pages 205-295). Your essay�s position/thesis must be supported by at least three reasons, each of which will include at least two in-text citations (direct quotes and/or summarizations) from your four sources. Your essay will demonstrate a solid understanding of the argumentative strategies learned in ENG112 to support your thesis.
Format and Requirements
-MLA format (in-text citations and Works Cited List)
-A minimum of 5 pages, maximum of 7 pages (1,200-1,500 words) (No title page)
-Typed in Times New Roman or Arial, 12pt font, double spaced throughout, 1� margins
-Top left corner: your full name, date, course and section number.
-At center: your essay�s title (an original title, not just the topic of your essay)
-No block quotes or direct quotations longer than 1-2 lines of text.
