Rule: Larceny is the taking and carrying away of property with the intent to deprive. Application: Here, Baker had the intent to deprive, as evidenced by his efforts to enter the store during the night with a blowtorch. The real question is whether he actually took and carried away property because he only got it as far as the door before the police came. I believe that his actions did meet the standard of taking and carrying away because he removed the items from their place and was on his way out with them. Conclusion: Baker is guilty of larceny. This class requires you to do some deep thinking about the material. If you do not understand something from the Narrated Lecture, listen again. If you do not understand something from the textbook, reread it. If you are still unsure, then email me with questions. But please do not hand in assignments without putting in the effort.
