The essays require students to assess one or more of the key course themes in a critical
assessment of visual materials and relevant literature, using evidence to construct and present a
written argument.
The assessments test familiarity with a relevant range of visual materials, and the ability to situate
these visual materials comparatively in relation to cultural and social developments elsewhere at
this time. The essays require the student to use evidence effectively to construct an argument.
The student is asked to locate, evaluate and contextualise written and visual materials.
