longer deemed at risk and removed from the list. Within the list, there are several different
categories of risk: special concern, threatened, endangered, extirpated (no longer found in
Canada but not extinct), and extinct. Which species in Canada are considered to be at risk is
determined by an organization called COSEWIC. Throughout this course you will learn why
and how certain species become threatened and ultimately endangered”.
