Philosophy

(1) Pick a social, political, or moral issue that you are interested in, and spend a page laying out the problem. Some examples are: animal rights, environmentalism, euthanasia, immigration reform, assisted suicide, bioethics, etc. The only topic you cannot write on is death penalty or abortion, since those were the topics for response papers 4 and 5

(2) Once you have laid out the problem, take a side and defend it (very much as in response papers 4 and 5). Develop a well constructed thesis, and then argue in defense of that thesis. Your arguments need to be original, and should not simply reconstruct the arguments of others. For example, if you write about gun control, you should not say things like “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, as this has already been said by dozens of others. Or, you should avoid recourse to the second amendment or personal safety. If you wrote about gun control, I am looking for original arguments, not the arguments of others. This applies to whatever topic you choose to write about. It is fine to discuss the existing debate, but I want you to develop your own arguments for your chosen thesis. You need to provide 3 arguments in defense of your thesis.

Should be 3-4 full pages, Times New Roman, Double Spaced, 12 Point Font. You do NOT need any secondary sources for this paper.
