Conscientious refusal and a Doctor's Right to Quit

John K. Davis argues in an article from Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, 2, 104, Vol. 29, No. 1, pp 75-91 for the view that doctors have a qualified right to conscientious refusal of a patient’s requested course of treatment. When a doctor refuses to provide a course of treatment, Davis says that doctors should provide what he calls “restitution” if the circumstances justify it. Why should doctors provide this restitution? Reconstruct Davis’ argument for restitution, analyze it, and comment on it.
