Nurse leaders who are responsible for managing employees often work with a business partner from the human resources department. One of the primary factors that determines a department or unit’s success is having the right employees, but finding and hiring the right employees is sometimes difficult. Having a HR business partner to assist with the hiring process will improve the likelihood of staffing the department or unit with the right people.

1. Create a STRUCTURED interviewing tool with a 250-word introduction about why you are requesting an interview with your HR business parter.

a. Questions to identify his or her goals and objectives.
b. Questions to assess how well the HR department interfaces with the nursing department.
c. Questions to determine how the HR department helps with finding and hiring candidates.
d. Questions about when to seek help during reviews and managing issues.
