Essay Guidelines and Requirements
The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate:
1) the ability to assess and utilize one or more theoretical perspectives on a selected topic, to identify the theoretical concepts and constructs that are relevant, and to situate the topic and its significance within the contextual framework of human science, and/or organizational systems;
2) the ability to evaluate, select, and defend the use of appropriate methodological approaches for the study of a selected topic; and
3) the ability to conduct an evaluative review of the existing research and/or scholarly literature related to a selected topic.
The scope of this essay is on poverty mitigation from a systems view of asset-based community development (ABCD) as a methodology that seeks to uncover and use the strengths within communities as a means for sustainable development. The research basis is predicated on The Asset-Based Community Development Institute located at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. The Asset-Based Community Development Institute is at the center of a large and growing movement that considers local assets as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development. Building on the skills of local residents, the power of local associations, and the supportive functions of local institutions, asset-based community development draws upon existing community strengths to build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future. Its founders, John Kretzmann and John L. McKnight, were influential in developing this community development philosophy. Application tools explored in this essay include “Guidelines for writing manuscripts about community-based participatory research for peer-reviewed journals” (Bordeaux, 2007).

Select two of the theories of motivation and two leadership theories as presented in our e-text and apply them to the information from the case;
Use headings to identify each theory discussed in your presentation;
Explain the theory in your own words;
Apply the theory to the case. In total, you will apply four different theories to the case.
Two important considerations:
You will be able to apply some theories more clearly and easily than others. As with all management theory, the situation will dictate which theories might work best and which won’t apply. So, part of the grade will be based on the selection of the appropriate theories.
Be sure you have the facts of the case correct and that you explain and apply the theories correctly. Selecting appropriate theories is only good when you can show that you understand the theory and apply it accurately
Required Formatting of Paper:
This paper should be double-spaced, 12-point font, and between five and six pages in length excluding the title page and reference page;
The paper should present an introduction, four theories and a summary of the theory and its application to the case study;
Each theory presentation should be no less than 250 words and no more than 750 words;
References should include the e-text and at least two academic or highly respected business publications, for a total of no less than three references;
Use APA formatting for in-text citations and reference page. You are expected to paraphrase and not use quotes. Deductions will be taken when quotes are used and found to be unnecessary;

This learning activity (i.e., Parts 1 and 2) will provide resources for describing, developing, and managing your personality (i.e., relational style: thinking, doing, feeling, and relating to others) against the backdrop of various people puzzles (e.g., extrovert/introvert, project/people oriented, thinking/feeling/doing, etc.). Interestingly, our interpersonal arena could be described as a bumper-human world as various behavioral pressures continually bless, bother, and bruise us. Understanding that “personality pressure” is a felt experience that often reveals what makes us tick and get ticked off with different people empowers us to become personality-, emotionally-, and relationally-wise. It should come as no surprise to realize that how we think, feel, and relate differently influences our relationships, even the people-helping relationship. Keep in mind that it really does not matter what your personality is. What matters most is that you learn to control it through appropriate resources and best-fit strategies rather than allowing your personality to be in control.
