What do you believe are those particular skill sets? What are the ethical, financial, and legal implications for communication within a health care organization? What are the some of the primary barriers to communication between a manager and his/her staff?
2. The Health Professional as Manager

Select either Option A or Option B and indicate in your post which option you have selected.

Option A: Imagine your colleague and friend, Jane Smith, has recently been promoted to department manager for your facility. You have worked side-by-side with Jane for the past ten years and can speak to her excellent skills as a health professional. However, Jane has no prior management experience and many of your co-workers are fearful that she does not possess the necessary leadership skills to effectively lead the team. You feel conflicted because you agree with your colleagues but you also have faith that Jane will do her best. Considering Jane’s situation, describe the dual role of the health professional as manager. What challenges do managers face when they make the leap from health care professional to manager? What are some of the common complaints to indicate the presence of ill-fitting management?

Organizational Communication

Choose a company that you may like to work for, either as a post-graduation job or as an internship. Create the following job application materials.

Company Research
For the company you’ve chosen, prepare a short (one-page) “fact sheet” detailing information about that company. This information should include that which you believe will help you target your résumé and cover letter to that company. Use this list to help you decide what information to include.

* name, location, size of company, and type of industry
• the quality of the organization and its public image
• the type of people currently employed (Conservative? Liberal? Creative?)
• conditions under which you might work (What’s the typical work week like?)
• nature of the training program (What will you learn? From whom?)
• opportunities for education and advancement (What are the promotion policies? Will they reimburse you for an advanced degree such as an MBA?)
• the fiscal history and employment stability record of the company (What’s the employee turnover rate and prognosis of permanence? Are they downsizing?)
• whether travel or relocation is required (If travel is required, how much travel?)
• nature of the community in which the company is located or where you will be working (Is it a big city or a small town? What’s the cost of living? Are there cultural opportunities? Are there recreational opportunities? What’s the climate like?)
• employee compensation and benefits (Generally you don’t ask these questions until the second interview or until you are offered a position, but you can usually find out this information—to a limited degree—from research.)

The “fact sheet” may be composed in paragraph form or as a bulleted list.

Cover Letter
Write a cover letter to the company. Address it to a specific person in the company—preferably the one who does the hiring! Make sure your tone is professional and that you highlight and augment the information in your résumé.

Résumé
Write a professional and accurate résumé tailored to the company you’ve selected.

Thank-You Note
Assume that you were interviewed by the company. Write a thank-you note to your interviewer. Be sure to use a standard letter template and to emphasize your benefit to the company.

Communicating Eligibility Requirements

One of the critical concerns in an athletic program is the eligibility of their athletes. As you can see by all of the information that has been presented to you, students often have nowhere to go to get this information to understand how to become eligible and to maintain their eligibility at a college or university. For this assignment:

1.You are to prepare an informational guide that focuses on the most critical aspects of the academic and general requirements for eligibility in the NCAA.
2.Compares the differences between Division I, II, and III eligibility.
3.Your informational resource guide should focus on the needs of the sport professionals and counselors who work with college athletes. Prepare a document than can be used to be help assure students have the same understandings as the professionals working with them.
4.In your research paper you must have a minimum of five resources.

Length: 5-7 pages not including title and reference pages.
References: Minimum of 3-5 scholarly resources.

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Review APA Form and Style.

Global Communications

Assignment Instructions

This week we are focusing on global communication. I have listed several journal articles to give you some background on this topic. I would like you to write a 3-5 page paper with global communication as your topic. I am going to leave the details of this paper up to you…it just needs to involve global communications in some way. You could choose to cover the topic in a broad way, or you could choose to focus on a particular company and explain their methods of communicating globally. As long as your paper is well written and researched, you can decide! Please attach your Word document to this assignment.

Communications

Your job is to reply to two students papers. Their papers are uploaded as DG and JY (two separate papers). Each reply must be 275 words and must advance the conversation further by providing new ideas and insights, asking probing questions that get to the heart of critical issues, and share from one’s personal and professional experience. Each reply will include at least 2 original references. The response should not be an agreement or disagreement with their paper, but an evaluation of the author’s analysis. All assertions must be supported by research and must not be based upon one’s “feeling” or “opinion.”

Also, provide integration of a biblical concept that supports your reply to each paper.

For each reply, the following headings should include:

o At least 2 scholarly article (published within the last five years); and
o A relevant business article (any article from a reputable business source—website, magazine, book, etc.—that discusses a relevant business/ethical issue) and;
o Relevant text chapter ( I plan to upload this)

Remember to provide new ideas, research, and analysis that create a clear dialogue with each student paper (i.e., each student’s ideas). Go beyond providing basic definitions to topics being discussed. Your reply to each student paper must not read as just another thread, nor regurgitate and restate what the student has stated.

Citations must be in current APA format (including headings). You must use proper spelling and grammar. The word count for the replies are as follows:

There are two replies needed (one per student paper) so the total word count is 550 (not including references). See attachment for student replies. Also use at least one scripture from the Holy for each student’s paper as a reference. *****275 words a piece for DG and JY replies.

Important: Label your paper with the student initials that you are responding to. For example, if you are responding to DG paper then write “this response is for DG”. In addition, each response to each student paper must have their own references. Do not combine all the references for all students at the end of the paper. Place the appropriate references under the applicable student’s response.

See levels of achievement on instruction sheet.

Intercultural Communication

:

In what ways does the U.S. legal system reflect the European American view of argumentation and persuasion? Does your culture value a particular style of persuasion? Do your own preferred ways of persuading others reflect your culture’s style of persuasion?

Write a 600 to 1,000 word reaction paper, with particular attention to discussion of any new perspective that you gained, based on information in the reports. [Note: Remember to use in-text citations, including page number(s) of any reference(s).]

Mexican-Americans constitute only one Spanish-speaking community within the U.S. The picture becomes more complex when one adds Central and Latin America. Check the most recent census for your area. What population of Spanish-speaking or other ethnic groups live in your city or region? Include census information for your state and your region or community in your response. What, if any, support networks for non-English speaking groups exist in your community/region? (For example, are there any local foreign language newspapers or news agencies, social clubs, festivals, specialized business enterprises that cater to a particular ethnic group, or ESL [English as a Second Language] programs? If an ESL program exists in your community, you may find it interesting — but are not required — to contact at least one program to learn about their criteria for working with adult learners, hours of availability and whether or not transportation resources exist. Note: In many areas, the community resource department of the local public library — or its web site — is likely to be a helpful resource about ESL programs in the area.)

Exercise 2:

For many non-English speaking newcomers, there is a great desire to learn English, but many communities provide limited or no opportunities. Hispanics/Latinos oftentimes must overcome obstacles including lack of personal transportation, non-existent programs or programs at a distance, varying schedules of work hours, lack of child care and cost can be a factor if the ESL program is not operated by a sponsor that uses volunteers. Additionally, a difficulty faced by sponsors of support programs is how to get information about their services to the Hispanic/Latino population that the program seeks to serve. What thoughts or ideas do you have about possible solutions to these challenges?

I do not have a copy of the book. All I know is it is pages 205-223 in chapter 9. I’m not even sure where to download a copy at.
