The purpose of this assignment is to educate yourself about a particular issue (environmental, political, human rights, etc) in a particular place in the world and then to learn as much as you can about it, research it, and then act on it.
You may already have an idea of an issue that concerns you. You may have no idea at all. You can start by looking in the news (CBC and BBC) or going to some sites where there are on-going petitions such as Avaaz http://www.avaaz.org “Avaaz—meaning “voice” in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian languages—launched in 2007 with a simple democratic mission: organize citizens of all nations to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.” Examples from Avaaz will be reviewed in class on Tuesday, March 5..
