Holistic Care and Treatments

The use of complementary and alternative therapies in the treatment of cancer patients, terminal patients, and many other types of patients is steadily

increasing.

For this Discussion, you will consider alternative therapies and discuss the challenges associated with them.

To prepare for this Discussion:
•Select one of the following areas where alternative therapies are being used:
•Cancer treatment
•Cancer symptom management
•End-of-life care
•Palliative care
•Find at least one scholarly journal article discussing alternative therapies in your chosen subtopic.

Respond to the following:
•Identify at least one challenge associated with the nurse’s role in providing alternative therapies for patient care.
•Explain how the nurse might integrate the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approaches in your chosen subtopic.
•What are the main elements you would include in a teaching plan for nurses on the use of CAM in your chosen subtopic?
•What is the shared role of the nurse and patient in developing care plans?

Legal Issues with Physicians

If a physician develops a history of disruptive behavior, belittling staff, cursing at coworkers, and being rude and curt to patients, what

are the responsibilities of the medical staff, the hospital, and the other professionals involved? Why do you believe that so many staff

may be reluctant to report a poorly behaving physician?

Discuss the depoliticized Jesus and explain why the socio-cultural context of a religious message cannot be ignored (cite 4 reasons)

Developmental Theories

1. Do you consider yourself to have social capital? If so, what form does it take?

2. Someone you know gets a perfect score on the SAT. What personal, family, and social characteristics do you think this individual has?

Another person becomes a serial killer. Without knowing this person, describe their personal, family, and social characteristics. If bad

behavior is explained by multiple problems, is good behavior explained by multiple strengths?

3. Do you believe it is a latent trait that makes a person crime prone, or is crime a function of environment and socialization?

4. Do you agree with Loeber’s multiple pathways model? Do you know people who have traveled down those paths?

5. Do people really change, or do they stay the same but appear to be different because their life circumstances have changed?

Economics

Craft an essay of about 4 double-spaced pages explaining how to generate alignment behind an entrepreneurial value proposition within a

firm (the firm’s mission or purpose). Your experience will inform your own ideas related to this topic, but, for obvious academic reasons,

the assignment is to thoroughly ground your exposition in the themes and arguments presented in the readings. Here are some ideas and

guidelines:

Ideas (Set Up):

• We have discussed two ideas: (1) the economic problem is a coordination problem (because of the knowledge problem) and (2) coordination

within a business can be trickier than coordination in the open market because inside a business coordination must take place as the

result of administrative systems rather than decentralized price systems.

• Collins and Porras argue that: “Building a visionary company requires 1% vision and 99% alignment.” Think of alignment and coordination

as the same basic challenge.

• A key element of “disciplined pluralism” is the notion of incentive alignment (in the context of authentic feedback loops). And, of

course, a key element of performance is the discovery and remediation of hidden costs, which is often the result of entrepreneurial

perspective that can come from any place within organizations.

Guidelines:

The default essay question is to explain how and why the 3M story represents the operational idea of disciplined pluralism, as applied

within an organization. However, you may prefer an alternative: past students have found value in applying the ideas and principles in the

readings to their own experience. If that sounds interesting, I encourage you to apply the ideas to healthcare role. Regardless of how you

choose to approach your essay, make sure your exposition incorporates the following elements—and explains how they work together as a

mutually-reinforcing set of forces:
• The yin and yang rubric used by Collins and Porras.

• The primary ideas expressed by Collins and Porras related to “Try Lots of Stuff and Keep What Works”—especially (a) the complementary

notions of BHAGs and “purposeful evolution” and (b) the interlocking nature of the “tangible mechanisms” within 3M.

• The key ideas about adaption, peer monitoring, and transparency expressed by Harford.

• The ideas about entrepreneurship within organizations expressed by King.

• The operational importance of “Architecture,” as expressed by John Kay, and how it complements the arguments made by the other authors.

Avoid merely summarizing the arguments in the readings. The challenge is to weave together the main arguments of each reading into a

system for driving alignment. Use quotations from the readings to support your exposition.

Strategic planning

Compare and contrast effectiveness with respect to two different plan’s goals. which are better and

The Story of an Hour

Discussion 1 — “The Story of an Hour”

Please post in this board TWICE. First, isolate five key words or phrases from the short story that summarize the story in its entirety (a

phrase is no more than four or five words). In your post, explain why you’ve chosen the five words or phrases and HOW they manage to summarize

the whole story.

For your second post, comment on (no more than 150-200 words is necessary for this one).

Heart Trouble: Mrs. Mallard, or Louise, had a heart problem, which is the cause for the very end of the piece. Her heart was unable to handle

not the news that her husband was dead, but rather the shock that came when she found out he was alive.

Free! Body and Soul Free!: Louise believed she was finally free from her husband’s grasp from the news of his death. She was the free in the

sense that she could finally live for herself and live a life she wants. We see that in the end, while she is still free, she is not free in the

way she wanted. Her husband is alive and she is dead. Her own death had set her free, yet she is unable to live this life she hoped for.

Joy that Kills: Mrs.Mallard’s heart trouble was triggered by shock, fear, and overall, joy. She was so overcome with the joy of her husband’s

death that when she saw her husband, the shock was too much for her to handle. It was so overwhelmingly painful for her to grasp and process

that it killed her. Ultimately, the doctors had believed she died from the joy of seeing her husband again, but really it was the shock that

crushed her hopes, dreams, and her happiness.

Hidden feelings: It is shown that Mrs.Mallard hides her feelings about her husband for years and upon hearing the news of the accident, she

hides her pure joy and happiness by locking herself in her room where no one can see her. She has hidden her dissatisfaction with her marriage

and life up until now and she will only hide her glee from others but will soon find herself free to do as she pleases. Yet her feelings remain

hidden until the end since she is never given the chance to express them properly due to her sudden death.

Misinterpretations: The story is filled with misinterpretations, especially about one’s feelings. We think, like every other character, that

Louise is shocked and heart broken over her husband’s death. We misinterpret her shock as mourning, but in reality, she is filled with joy.

Josephine misinterprets Louise’s feelings, along with sees her locking herself in her room as her isolating herself out of grief and depression

when it is the exact opposite. It happens again at the end, with the doctors. They think her heart gave out due to the shock and pure joy of

seeing her husband safe and sound when Mrs. Mallard’s shock was not one of happiness, but rather pure fear and distraught.
-You can feel free to agree or disagree with them, just don’t be rude or confrontational! Disagreement is perfectly fine::

Discussion Two — “The Story of an Hour”
Consider how this short story quickly takes the reader through an hour in a woman’s life — when so much occurs so quickly. Is there a

relationship between the content of this story (the quick news, the very brief mourning, the sudden turn of events, etc.) and the way in which

the story is told? In other words, does a relationship exist between form and content in this story?

Assessment 6: Labor Relations Recommendations

Then select the class Fund of Human Resources and Mgmt and select assessment 6- Labor Relations Recommendations
From there please read the requirements for the paper, and the required/suggested sources needed to be used.

Examples of relevant data could include monthly earnings, labor force, employment/unemployment rates, working time, et cetera. This data is a starting

point for your research, but do no feel limited to this site. You are welcome to conduct additional research as you see fit on additional topics such

as corporate tax incentives, education rates, economic status, competition for labor, or the number of exiting manufacturing facilities in the area.
It will be helpful for your recommendation to compare the data from the three selected countries to U.S. data.
Incorporate your prepared tables of comparison into the assessment.

Deliverables

Based on your research of international labor statistics and the organization you selected, complete the following:

Write a research paper that includes the following components:
Briefly compare the data for the three countries you selected.
