Oral Language Development Lesson Plan

Oral Language Development Lesson Plan
Using the “Class Profile,” identify a group of 3-4 students who would benefit from an oral language development lesson. Then, select a corresponding grade level and text from Appendix B of the Common Core English Language Arts Standards appropriate for use in a lesson plan for the determined group.

With your choices in mind and using the GCU Lesson Plan Template, design a lesson plan, utilizing a read-aloud, dramatic play, or storytelling, as an instructional strategy. Thoroughly script the “I Do, Students Do” section, emphasizing the use of questions to access student’s background knowledge in order to build new knowledge and develop common understanding through shared, concrete experiences.

Upon completion of the lesson plan, compose a 250-300-word summary, rationalizing your instructional decisions, applicable to the chosen small group.

Summarization Chart

Identify the major influences on Wesley that fed into his insistence throughout his life that he was a “Reformed Anglican.”
The phrase “the middle way” (or via media) is found often in a discussion of Wesley’s theology. He deeply loved what the Reformation had done to correct many of the excesses of late medieval Catholicism. But he was also equally convinced that the Early Church had not been totally devoid of spiritual truth. With the advantage of theological hindsight, Wesley became an expert in joining the best theologies of the past while meeting the present day needs of his culture. Every student of Wesley ought to follow his example. This assignment will not only hone your skills as a theologian, but will help you re-think how we might do theology in our day without getting caught up in either narrow perspectives or meaningless ecumenism.

Learning Activity: Summarization Chart
Read the following:
Oden, p. 277-295.

Locate the following readings by searching the site: http://wesley.nnu.edu/
Sermon VII, “The Way to the Kingdom.”
Sermon XXXIX, “Catholic Spirit.”
Sermon VI, “The Righteousness of Faith.”

Produce a 1 page chart that summarizes the main theological emphases of Reformation theology and Catholic theology that you discern from your reading. Then in the middle of the chart show where you have found in Wesley a way of joining the two positions together. Look for 3-5 major issues. How one is conceived as being “made righteous” would possibly be a starting point. Why would a “catholic” (or more universally Christian) spirit be something that Wesley would need to spend time dealing with?

Workplace Law

Question
In January 2014 Technicalities Ltd., a labour hire company, hired Maisy, an office worker. She was re-entering the workforce after being a full-time mother at home for two years. Technicalities placed her with a client, Innovative Storage. IS had Maisy work for them regularly throughout the year, and again in early 2015. Maisy also worked for other firms, but only on a casual basis. Technicalities reported that IS was satisfied with her work in May 2015, when they told her they would continue to need her until further notice, and she worked full-time for them until December 2015.
When she started work for Technicalities Maisy registered an Australian Business Number, as required by them. Technicalities said this was so they could pay her a flat hourly rate for all of the hours she worked and not offend any laws about penalty rates. She did not take work instructions from Technicalities though, but accepted directions from IS on a daily basis. She does not get paid when she takes sick leave or carers leave. Maisy always wore the IS uniform while at work and was receiving training in an accounts system on Friday afternoons in a spare office at IS until December 2015. Maisy made her own superannuation contributions and taxation payments. IS told Maisy when her hours of work were, what her duties were and with whom she would be working.
In late November Maisy had an accident at work. She slipped and fell down some stairs while carrying office equipment. A spill had occurred the day before, and although the cleaner had mopped up the oil, there was a residual coating on the stairs. Maisy injured her back, shoulder and left arm. She took a couple of weeks off work and asked IS to pay her medical expenses. They were reimbursed in full. Maisy continues to have a sore back and shoulder.
In early December 2015, Maisy saw a job advertisement online. It was for an office worker at IS. She applied in writing but did not succeed in her application. Maisy was not sure why she missed out and was not advised that the position advertised would make her continued services obsolete. The following week and after making inquiries of management she was informed by IS that she would receive two weeks pay in lieu of notice. Maisy has not received any further work allocations from Technicalities.

(a)Is Maisy an employee or another type of worker?
(b) Assuming Maisy is an employee, who is Maisy’s employer, Technicalities or IS?
(c) Assuming Maisy is an employee, has Maisy’s employer breached any contractual duty owed to her?

Nietzsche

Critically Thinking and Writing on a Topic, Due April 17

5-7 pages, 12-pt. font, double spaced, one-inch margins

Write a critical reflection paper.  This paper is not a research paper, nor is the paper an elaboration of your belief system. This paper contrasts the concepts of the first paper with those of Nietzsche that we have covered thus far in class.

Notice you are not defending your own position, but contrasting points between the two; then evaluating both for weaknesses and strengths: how each may result in unforeseen problems or how each may have strong possibilities.  Quite naturally, this final paper may tend toward a positive regard for your first paper and a negative one for its alternative.  A strong “A” paper, however, will be able to be critically fair with both positions and learn a new insight from the assessment; this will be the source of the paper’s thesis.

Plan:

  1. Find two to three major points of divergence between the revised first paper and any one philosopher; don’t be obligated to address every point in first paper.

  1. Offer direct evidence from both positions as each point is contrasted. Whenever borrowing a text’s ideas and words, cite with full in-text notes in the first citation, e.g. (“A meaningful Life” 2) [refer to your paper by its title, not “my paper,” “my position”], (Plato, Apology 35b2), (Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics 1163a 25-30), (Nietzsche, On The Genealogy of Morals, Third Essay §16), or (Heidegger, “The Question Concerning Technology” 307).  Abbreviated citations are appropriated for successive citations, e.g., (“Technology” 309).

  1. Having contrasted major points of divergence, evaluate the two philosophies: their viability, value, happiness quotient, possible misuse, etc. Be thoughtfully creative, but fair.

  1. Finally, avoid “I believe,” “I feel,” or “you,” etc. in your exposition—maintain focus on the texts instead of shifting focus onto yourself or onto another.

Grading Criteria: Total points – 100

Paper Introduction: 15

  • Have a clear thesis statement. What is the major point or claim of the paper?
  • Engage the reader.
  • Offer a brief overview of the paper.

Textual Contrast: 30

  • Have clear contrasting points of discussion in the chosen texts.
  • Comment on the chosen texts; provide facts, rationale or other worthwhile supportive

information.  Don’t offer unsupported claims.

Textual Analysis: 25

  • Raise objections to both of the chosen texts. How do objections weaken, strengthen, or

Falsify the chosen texts?

Paper Conclusion: 15

  • Match conclusion of paper with thesis statement.
  • Does the body of your paper support your thesis statement?

Paper Development and Composition: 15

  • Develop one idea per paragraph with transitions between paragraphs.
  • Are grammar and syntax correct?P(5.u)
