1.Quantitative Research Designs

In order to find the best information on a topic, not only should you develop a question and search for resources, but you should also know how to analyze the value of the resources that you identify. There are different ways to evaluate resources, such as using the hierarchy of evidence, which you explored in Week 4 of this course. Another way to evaluate resources is to consider the appropriateness of the research design. Understanding how research designs contribute to the quality of a study is essential for being able to analyze resources when conducting a literature review or locating evidence for practice.

In this Discussion, you consider the different research designs and evaluate how these designs have been used to research a specific topic. You also consider strategies for selecting an appropriate research design.

To prepare:

· Review the information in the course text on quantitative research designs. Focus on the information on, “Guidelines for Critiquing Research Designs in Quantitative Studies”.

· Select a topic from the list below and search the Walden Library to find two different quantitative research studies addressing that issue:

o Caregiver stress

o Anxiety in children

o Sleep apnea

o Depression in college freshmen

o Rural health care issues

o Post-traumatic stress syndrome

o Traumatic brain injury in veterans

o Health effects of environmental contaminants

o Bipolar disorder

o End-of-life ethical issues

o Alternative medicine

· For each of the sources that you select, identify the type of quantitative research design used, and evaluate whether it is the most appropriate approach to the research.

· Consider the ramifications of choosing an inappropriate design for a research study.

Managing Groups and Teams

Managing Groups and Teams
Introduction: Discuss the topic of the paper and how you will approach it. It is best to write this section after you have written the rest of the

paper.
Concrete Experience: Begin with a specific situation/event. Describe an experience with a group or team that was meaningful to you. It may have been an

extraordinarily good experience – or it may have been an experience that did not work out very well at all! The important point is that it should be an

experience which you would like to understand better. Be objective and focus on just the facts: who, what, where, when, and how – as if you were

composing a newspaper article.
Reflective Observation: Reflect upon that experience from multiple perspectives of persons involved or affected in the experience. Step back from the

situation, look at the experience from your own viewpoint, and from the perspective of all other parties involved or affected. You want to look at the

circumstances surrounding the experience from every relevant point of view. Why did you behave the way that you did? Why did others behave the way that

they did? Did others have the same positive (or negative) experience? Explain. (Note: your discussion of theories and models from your module materials

belongs in the following section.)
Abstract Conceptualization: Use critical thinking skills in order to understand and interpret the experience at a deeper, more generalizable level.

Interpret and understand the events you have described by drawing on the concepts, theories, and models in the background material from this module.

Explain how they apply to your experience. For example, what behavior patterns can you identify in yourself and others that are similar to the ones

described in the material on communication, teams, and conflict management? Does the model of Force Field Analysis (home page) help you better

understand why people behaved the way they did? Be sure to apply at least three concepts, theories, and/or models and cite all references to concepts,

ideas, and/or quotes that you use from any outside source.
[This Abstract Conceptualization section is the “heart” of your paper. Using critical thinking skills, provide a clear, specific discussion on the

logic, theories, and models and how they apply to your experience.]
Active Experimentation: Identify ways to respond to the next occurrence of a similar experience. What have you learned about the way groups work from

this analysis? What have you learned from your mistakes? How are you going to put what you have learned to use? What actions will you take to build more

effective work teams in your job?
Conclusion: Sum up the main points of your analysis and the key learning you are taking from it.
Reference List: List all references that you have cited in the paper using APA formatting. References include materials from the required background

readings as well as any outside internet or library sources you used in researching and writing your paper. If you have APA questions, refer to the

optional listings on the background page.

Examine the major effects that government policies have on production and employment

Assignment 3: Long-Term Investment Decisions

Due Week 9 and worth 300 points

Assume that the low-calorie frozen, microwavable food company from Assignments 1 and 2 wants to expand and has to make some long-term capital budgeting decisions. The company is currently facing increases in the costs of major ingredients.

Use the Internet and Strayer databases to research government policies and regulation.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

  1. Outline a plan that managers in the low-calorie, frozen microwaveable food company could follow in anticipation of raising prices when selecting pricing strategies for making their products response to a change in price less elastic. Provide a rationale for your response.
  2. Examine the major effects that government policies have on production and employment. Predict the potential effects that government policies could have on your company.
  3. Determine whether or not government regulation to ensure fairness in the low-calorie, frozen microwavable food industry is needed. Cite the major reasons for government involvement in a market economy. Provide two (2) examples of government involvement in a similar market economy to support your response.
  4. Examine the major complexities that would arise under expansion via capital projects. Propose key actions that the company could take in order to prevent or address these complexities.
  5. Suggest the substantive manner in which the company could create a convergence between the interests of stockholders and managers. Indicate the most likely impact to profitability of such a convergence. Provide two (2) examples of instances that support your response.
  6. Use at least five (5) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia does not qualify as an academic resource.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Propose how differences in demand and elasticity lead managers to develop various pricing strategies.
  • Analyze the economic impact of contracting, governance and organizational form within organizations.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in managerial economics and globalization.
  • Write clearly and concisely about managerial economics and globalization using proper writing mechanics.

What is corporate governance?

Homework Set #5: Chapter 12

Due Week 10 and worth 100 points

Directions: Answer the following questions on a separate document. Explain how you reached the answer or show your work if a mathematical calculation is needed, or both. Submit your assignment using the assignment link above.

In your own words, complete the Mini-Case on Page 562 of your textbook.

Suppose you decide (as did Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg) to start a company. Your product is a software platform that integrates a wide range of media devices, including laptop computers, desktop computers, digital video recorders, and cell phones. Your initial market is the student body at your university. Once you have established your company and set up procedures for operating it, you plan to expand to other colleges in the area and eventually to go nationwide. At some point, hopefully sooner rather than later, you plan to go public with an IPO and then to buy a yacht and take off for the South Pacific to indulge in your passion for underwater photography. With these issues in mind, you need to answer for yourself, and potential investors, the following questions.

  1. What is an agency relationship? When you first begin operations, assuming you are the only employee and only your money is invested in the business, would any agency conflicts exist? Explain your answer
  2. If you expanded and hired additional people to help you, might that give rise to agency problems?
  3. Suppose you need additional capital to expand and you sell some stock to outside investors. If you maintain enough stock to control the company, what type of agency conflict might occur?
  4. Suppose your company raises funds from outside lenders. What type of agency costs might occur? How might lenders mitigate the agency costs?
  5. Suppose your company is very successful and you cash out most of your stock and turn the company over to an elected board of directors. Neither you nor any other stockholders own a controlling interest (this is the situation at most public companies). List six potential managerial behaviors that can harm a firm’s value.
  6. What is corporate governance? List five corporate governance provisions that are internal to a firm and are under its control.
  7. What characteristics of the board of directors usually lead to effective corporate governance?
  8. List three provisions in the corporate charter that affect takeovers.
  9. Briefly describe the use of stock options in a compensation plan. What are some potential problems with stock options as a form of compensation?
  10. What is block ownership? How does it affect corporate governance?
  11. Briefly explain how regulatory agencies and legal systems affect corporate governance

Approximately 400 words for each question.

1. Global Institutions and International Organizations have evolved over the last years to their current missions and objectives. What are

some of the earliest reasons for establishing international organizations and how have they progressed to the modern era.
2. Please describe the mission, historical background and the key accomplishments of the United Nations to date.
3.Please Describe the mission, activities and program objectives of the Council on Foreign Relations.

why is there a market for bonds?

Answer in 3-4 paragraphs. APA format with in-text references.

In chapter 6, we explored how to value bonds. If all investors are using this method, why does the same bond buy or sell at different prices? In other words, why is there a market for bonds? Why do some financial analysts treat preferred stock as a special type of bond, rather than as an equity security? Include in your discussion the relationship between bond prices and interest rates.
