one of the essays from Part Five of your textbook (pages 477ff) and write a Toulmin analysis of the argument(s) presented in the essay. 3-4 Pages,

Double-spaced, MLA format.

1. Select a topic from Part 5 of your textbook (pages 477ff) that you are interested in and read all of the essays in that section.

2. Select one (or two) essay from the section that stands out to you. Read the entire essay at least once more to get an overall feel for its tone,

structure and logic.

3. Try to find the central claim. How do you know it is the claim? Is it stated or implied? Is it a claim of fact, value or policy?

4. Look at the evidence the author provides for their claim. Is the evidence clear? Is it fair? Is it relevant, reliable and representative? Do you

You are a staffer for the federal secretary of Health and Human Services. The secretary discusses with you the different ways that states have responded to the Medicaid expansion in the Affordable Care Act: Roughly two dozen states have adopted the expansion without much debate or negotiation; a few states, such as Arkansas, have negotiated special terms for their expanded programs (and are using Medicaid funding to buy private coverage for beneficiaries); and still other states, such as Texas, have simply refused to adopt the expansion. The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to apply a working knowledge of the theories, terminology, and concepts covered in this course to conduct independent research in order to perform a cost/benefit analysis on “The Cost of Justice.” Briefly research expenditures on corrections at the state and federal level and apply your findings to the modern American conception of justice.

You will provide an analysis of your research findings that considers the following questions: What is justice? Are we achieving it? And what are the costs of justice (cost/benefit analysis)? Keep in mind, costs can be recognized in multiple denominations—think beyond finances to address larger issues.

The body of your paper must be no more than 3 pages. In addition to the body, your paper mustinclude a title page, abstract, and reference page. Your paper must adhere to current APA format throughout, and your writing must be supported with properly formatted in-text citations. You must include at least 2 sources in addition to the Bible.
