Bay of pigs failure

Students will write a 1500+ word essay to answer the following questions:

A) Describe an example of cognitive bias as it relates to a specific event that affected the U.S. intelligence community. These events are typically

known as intelligence “failures” but that is not always the case.

B) How could have the cognitive bias been avoided?

C) Describe a situation in your own life that involved cognitive bias, how it played out, and what you could have done differently. This does not

have to be related to your job and should of course be completely unclassified.

This paper should be at least 1500 words in length, not counting the references page.

Compare and Contrast of Christianity and Judaism

Compare and Contrast of Christianity and Judaism

Five paragraph essay (3 body paragraphs with intro and conclusion) comparing and contrasting the religions christianity and Judaism. MLA format and

requires a “unique title”. Requires 2 sources and in text citation.

Data visualization, artist’s statement, and annotated bibliography.

Total points: 150 (Parts I, II, and III)

Part I: Data Visualization
We’ve talked about Dear Data this semester, the year-long project of two data visualizers to send each other a weekly themed hand-drawn

image. Now it’s your turn!

For the visual component of the final assignment, you must compose a data visualization modeled after Giorgia’s and Stefanie’s. The theme

is up to you! Important: If you choose one of their themes, please make sure that yours is different enough. In other words, don’t use

their data visualizations as templates, but instead use them as models.

The data visualization has to be hand-drawn.

You will have two parts of this data visualization on two index cards:
• One index card with the data visualization.
• The other index card with the key/legend of the data visualization.
o See Giorgia’s and Stefanie’s models.

The reason for the two index cards is that we will be displaying your data visualization, and a two-sided card is not conducive to a

gallery presentation.

Delivery method: Hard copy brought to the final. No digital copy needed, so you do not need to scan or take a photo and upload.

Part II: Artist’s Statement
The rhetorical situation and genre conventions of the author’s/artist’s statement are found on pages 234-241 of your BBG, but the sample

is longer than you have to write. Yours should be about 1-2 pages.

In it, you will do the following:
• Discuss a specific composition: Your Dear Data image
• Address your readers directly: Your classmates
• Explain how you followed genre conventions: The Dear Data genre is a data visualization
• Discuss your specific rhetorical situation and related choices made in designing the example of the genre, data visualization
• Reflect on your composition: metacognition

You won’t need to have any outside sources.
You need to explain the symbols and the colors, etc. in your artist’s statement. As your BBG explains, think of an artist’s statement

like a DVD commentary of a film. You are telling your audience about your rhetorical moves.

Delivery method: Digital copy uploaded to D2L before the final, and hard copy brought to class.

Part III: Single-Source Annotated Bibliography

Everyone picked a number from a hat, and this random selection gave you your assigned text for part III. All of these links are to

secondary sources about Dear Data. Your assignment will be to compose a one-entry annotated bibliography, similar to what you did for SWA

#7, but with just one source.

You will compose an MLA citation, and you will write a paragraph after the citation, a paragraph in which you will summarize the text, and

most importantly, analyze the rhetorical situation. Remember that all the texts are about Dear Data, so you need to go beyond “This

article is about Dear Data.” What type of article is it? Who is the audience? What is the genre? What media? What modes? Also, make

sure your MLA citation adheres to the conventions of the documentation style.

Delivery method: Digital copy uploaded to D2L before the final, AND hard copy brought to class.

For your final exam presentation, you will tell the class about your image, and briefly discuss your artist’s statement. Then you will

present to the class your annotated bibliography (Part III), displaying the text on the overhead projector. Be prepared to field

questions from the audience.

International Relations

Background Information

A fundamental problem with world politics is the absence of order. The international system is characterized by a collection of sovereign states that are independent of each other. In the absence of a world government, states must find ways to cooperate with other states to promote their interests. International law is one way that states cooperate with each other. International law establishes rules that determine how states behave toward each other. Examples of international law include:

Geneva Convention (a series of laws dealing with the law of war and combat)
Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide
International Convention on Civil and Political Rights
Convention Against Torture
Hague Hijacking Convention
International law is very different from the laws of individual nations. Unlike domestic law, where a government enforces the laws of the nation against citizens who violate the law, in international law, there is no world government and no world military or police force. For this reason, enforcement of international law is voluntary, resting on the willingness of states to obey and enforce international law against violators. Intergovernmental organizations can take a variety of actions to coerce and punish a state for violating international law, but most of these actions are actually recommendations because there is no world government. Instead, should a state violate international law, it takes the action of other states to persuade, coerce, or punish a state for its violation.

Despite the absence of a world government and the voluntary nature of enforcement of international law, most states obey international law because it suits their interests. States also derive benefits from doing so—namely, earning trust and goodwill and creating friendly relations with other states. A state that violates international law risks international criticism and opposition, political and economic ostracism and isolation, denial of the benefits of international trade with other states, and even possibly attack or invasion by other states (for example, in 1991, when Iraq invaded Kuwait and a multi-national coalition led by the United States liberated Kuwait and militarily expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait).

Software testing comes in many varieties and is done at several levels, including (but not limited to) unit testing, system testing, and acceptance testing.

Write up a 2-3 page outline for a software test plan that is specific to the FrozenFist project.(Drones shooting at eachother) Some items you may wish to include:

When and/or how often the test should be run
One or two sample test instructions for the test (“Set target lock, fire weapon, verify kill”)
Who is doing the test (Developers? A testing team? Users?)
You can organize the tests by where they fit into the process or by level or use some other set of categories that works best for you.

Assignment # 2 – OSHA & TOSHA

The purpose of this education is to prepare for a professional career. Therefore, ALL assignments are expected to have a professional presentation.

This assignment provides opportunity for students to research regulations related to health and safety management.

Assignment requirements:
Due to downsizing, you have just been assigned to take over the requirements for the Workplace Health & Safety department at your facility. You’ll have

to quickly learn about OSHA regulations, including some in particular that impact your company in Tennessee.
To help prepare you for your new task, your boss asks you to investigate the company’s Workplace Health & Safety OSHA obligations (as well as to the

organization, to the employees, and to the community) which will require you to do some research.
Review the OSHA website (www.osha.gov), and the TOSHA website (http://www.tn.gov/workforce/section/tosha).
You are requested to write a professional report, including the following information:
1) Within title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, identify:
a. the part that covers Occupational Health and Safety Standards,
b. the part that covers Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illness,
c. the part that covers Occupational Health and Safety topics for Construction, and
d. the part and section that covers Hazard Communication.
2) Identify two US states that do NOT have an “OSHA Approved State Plan”.
3) Tennessee has an “OSHA Approved State Plan”, which means that it must set workplace safety and health standards that are “at least as

effective” as OSHA standards. Per the osha.gov website, what is one unique standard included in Tennessee’s “OSHA Approved State Plan”?
4) Per the TOSHA website, identify the top three most cited standards in EACH: the Construction Standards, the General Industry Standards, the

Health Care Standards, and the Public Sector Requirements.
5) Describe several (at least three) other topics that are covered by the OSHA regulations, (including the location of the requirement in the

regulation).
Describe how the topics you’ve chosen are important for an organization, AND a description of evidence of meeting the OSHA requirement(s) of each topic

that an organization could use if inspected by OSHA.
