Write a paper on a military topic, specifically either an aspect of an American war, a specific battle, a troop or battalion, or a particular soldier or

veteran. The time frame should be after the Civil War.Students may choose a specific aspect or topic from any of the following conflicts and/or periods.

Keep in mind that an entire war itself is too broad of a topic to cover in this paper. If you are a veteran or know someone who has served, perhaps an

interview and account of their experiences would be a good paper. Within many of these wars were specific instances which would also make for a good paper.

Measuring Performance
Gathering performance information is important; however, if it is not used appropriately, it will not lead to the desired outcome. Managers need to understand how to gather and use performance information and be empowered to communicate performance information to employees in a way that will produce the appropriate outcomes as well as support organizational goals.
For this assignment, you will analyze the data provided and write a report in approximately 4–5 pages based on your findings.
Scenario:
BANKS Industries, a client of yours, is attempting to train managers to use performance information effectively. It has implemented a system where both the immediate supervisor and the department head are evaluating employees using a graphic rating scale. The employees being evaluated are all call center representatives for a help desk that handles problems with its personal computing devices product line. You have had an opportunity to review its job descriptions and performance evaluation document.

A group of twenty call center representatives has already been evaluated. The evaluation uses a graphic rating scale that results in an average score per employee. The graphic rating scale is weighted as follows:
• Needs Improvement = 1
• Meets Expectations = 2
• Exceeds Expectations = 3
A score of 2–2.49 is considered acceptable. Anything over 2.5 exceeds expectations. Scores under 2 indicate a need for improvement in at least one area. BANKS Industries has decided that for call center representatives, the evaluations will be conducted by both the call center manager and the district manager. Both managers are present and walk the floor on a regular basis, and both are reasonably familiar with the employees. The call center manager reports to the district manager.
After looking at the ratings from this round of evaluations, management is concerned that there may be some inter-rater reliability issues. It looks like the two managers do not always agree on ratings for these employees. Here is a comparison of the average scores:

Directions:
In 4–5 pages:
• Define and discuss a graphic rating scale as an appraisal instrument.
• Conduct a statistical analysis of the two sets of data using a t-test in Microsoft Excel to determine whether the differences in ratings are statistically significant (include your computations).
• Explain the results of your t-test, including a table/graphic representation and the implications of your results.
• Assess the appraisal instrument and make at least two recommendations for improvement.
• Identify training topics for management to ensure better inter-rater reliability in the future. Include a justification.
Your final product will be a Microsoft Word document of approximately 4–5 pages in length and utilize at least three scholarly sources in your research. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Essay 1: Narrative Argument about Your Education
The Importance of Arguments:
One skill set you will focus on in Writing 101 is how to persuade an audience for your purpose.
Understanding effective strategies of argument can come in handy when you want to persuade your boss
that you deserve a raise or persuade your coworkers that a specific way to do something is better. The
first essay assignment in Writing 101 requires you to practice persuasion by writing an argument using a
narrative — a story — to convince your readers your thesis (the point you are making) is valid, true.
The Importance of Narratives
In Essay 1, you will use a story about an educational experience you had as evidence to support your
argument about that experience. People judge the strength of an argument by the evidence you include
that supports your thesis. Readers need to make sense of an event or events within a context. The context
a story gives us the sense-making perspectives we need. Use your narrative or story to convince your
audience that your point – your thesis — is reasonable given the situation.
Assignment
Education refers to all of the ways we formally and informally learn. Formal education includes
everything learned in school. Informal education includes everything learned outside of a structured
setting, either from family, friends, coaches, mentors, etc., or that you have taught yourself.

Include Figurative Language
One way to make a narrative effective is to include figurative language such as metaphors,
similes, personification, etc.
Here is an example of literal language: “The house had three floors and seven bedrooms.”
Here is an example of figurative language: “The seven-bedroom house loomed over Mulberry
Street like a dark god, casting judgment on its neighbors.”
Use Strong Verbs
Notice the difference in the previous example between the verbs “had” and “loomed.” “Loomed”
is much more specific and descriptive.
Use Dialogue (optional)
Including what people said can help readers better understand your experience and your point.
Make Sure Your Story Makes a Point
Have an answer to the reader’s question “So what?”
What central idea or thesis do you want to convince readers is reasonable, true, and insightful.
