Identifying a Doctoral Study for Evaluation

 

Throughout the 8 weeks of this course (in separate but interrelated assignments), you will describe and evaluate the data collection methods to ensure quality used in a selected qualitative doctoral study. To facilitate this evaluation, this week you will search for an appropriate doctoral study from the Walden online library or ProQuest. Follow the guidelines below to choose a study:

Use the ProQuest online database to search for a study.
Please be sure to choose a doctoral study that is focused on a business-related topic. The search terms “qualitative” and “business” find many options to explore, or search for sample study that is directly related to your emerging doctoral study research topic.
Do not choose a master’s thesis or an undergraduate study.
Choose a qualitative doctoral study, or a mixed-methods doctoral study with a substantial qualitative component that has data collections and data analysis sections. This study should be done within five years. If you are uncertain if your selected doctoral study meets these requirements, please discuss this with your Instructor. If you choose a mixed-method doctoral study, focus only on the qualitative components in the paper for this course.
Also, keep in mind that this doctoral study will be used as a basis for subsequent assignments in the next few weeks which you will describe and evaluate different sections of the sample study you choose.

The Crochetiere doctoral study listed in this week’s Learning Resources is an example of a qualitative research document similar to that required for you to find this week. If you are performing research specifically related to sustainability, you may petition the Instructor to potentially allow you to use this doctoral study for analysis purposes in this course.

Important note: During application assignments in Weeks 2, 3, 5, and 6, you will be reviewing and analyzing the doctoral study you identify this week.

For this Application:

Identify a study or ProQuest in the Walden library, and submit a full citation using correct APA style (6th ed.) for your chosen doctoral study, along with the study abstract in one word document.
Please save your chosen doctoral study as a pdf file and keep it for your own use.

“Essay Questions” :
Federal antitrust statutes are complex, but the basic goal is straightforward: To prevent a major industry from being so dominated by a small group of

corporations that they destroy competition and injure consumers. Does Major League Baseball violate the antitrust laws? Many observers say that it does.

A small group of owners not only dominate the industry, but actually own it, controlling the entry of new owners into the game. This issue went to the

United States Supreme Court in 1922. Justice Holmes ruled, perhaps surprisingly, that baseball is exempt from the antitrust laws, holding that baseball

is not “trade or commerce.” Suppose that members of Congress dislike this ruling and the current condition of baseball. What can they do?

For this Unit Three Discussion Board Research Topic you will be finding two examples of art from the periods and art movements covered this unit (1520-1699) and comparing and contrasting them. As discussed in this unit, the many developments in art over this time-frame led to both consistencies and stark contrasts among all the work, often related to historical or religious contexts. You will be presenting a critical analysis comparing and contrasting two works by artists from different regions or stylistic interests.
To complete this Research Topics assignment, do the following:
1. Choose ONE (and only one) of the following pairs of periods / styles/ stylistic affiliations to research and write about:

2. After choosing your pair, conduct research online to find one example of art by and artist that correlates with each of your selected pair. NOTE: You may NOT use any works of art found in the textbook or lesson file for this unit! Also, you may NOT use any works of art used by another student for this assignment (as posted to the discussion board), so choose carefully. Your choices should be appropriate to the time period and styles/regions you are discussing (so, in other words, a Caravaggiste would be inappropriate for your discussion of Mannerism).

3. Once you have found your choices, write a two-to-four (2-4) page analysis of how the works are alike or differ. Your analysis should draw from what you learned in the unit regarding the conditions and reasons certain styles, subjects, and approaches developed and proliferated in specific geographic regions and not others. You should consider the following questions in your analysis:
• What stylistic conventions or approaches are exhibited in each work of art? Are they similar or different in any way?
• Is the predominant style displayed related to a specific artist’s career or dominant in a specific region?
• What subjects are presented in each work and are they different or similar in any way? Are these subjects common to this artist’s work and/or the region she/he worked in? If not, what reasons might explain might explain the use of this subject, based on your knowledge from the unit and research?
• Based on the context (historical, religious, art market) in which each work was created and how it was meant to be displayed, which work do you think was most successful? Explain with supporting information.
Once you have completed your written analysis, upload it to the discussion board created for this unit by copying-and-pasting your text directly into a post. Remember to either link directly to your images, or upload and attach image files for your two works of art.

Business Email Assignment
Purpose
Email is an important form of business communication to inform, persuade, and promote goodwill. The benefits of email include timeliness and accessibility. Popularized for its accessibility and time-efficiency, some users incorrectly employ a casual tone regardless of the context. Consequently, business communicators will convey a strong professional impression with a well-formatted email.
Your Task
You are the owner of a small independent company that provides financial services for other small businesses. Currently, your 30+ employees work a consistent eight-hour day from 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour lunch hour. As you have expanded the business, you have accepted new clients who prefer that your office had longer office hours so they can reach you earlier or later than your current hours.
In addition, you have several employees who have expressed an interest in having more flexible working hours because they have children or other family responsibilities. You believe this might be a good opportunity to meet the needs of both clients and employees by offering flexible working hours. You have already spoken to your four supervisors who have agreed to take turns coming in early or staying late and working out a schedule among themselves.
You are envisioning opening the office at 6:30 a.m. and staying open until 5:30 p.m. You want to set core business hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m where all employees must be at their desks so you can have meetings and other activities. Employees will have three options from which to choose:
• Starting at 6:30 a.m. and working until 3:00 p.m.
