In 300 words or less, state why you want to become a physician and what you can bring to the world of medical health in today’s multicultural society. My passion and interest in medicine is deeply rooted in my childhood. Before I could even attain 10 years of age, my father was diagnosed with a severe cancer and later succumbed to it. I was then too young to understand everything, but I somehow held onto the feeling that I could have helped prevent my father’s death. A few years later, my mother decided to move with me and my two other sisters to the US. While attending to college I had opportunity to offer my services to the senior citizens undergoing different stages of Alzheimer’s disease. During this volunteer experience I realized that I had the ability to make such a difference. Later on, while attending to Rutgers I spent my summers participating in a premedical scholars program called NERA at NJ Medical School. I was delighted to be in a medical environment especially sharing time with medical students and professors which helped me gain a comprehensive view of medicine.

My desire for a career in medicine has grown stronger since I have been able to take higher level science classes and volunteer at a local hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have been able to realize through my personal experiences that is only through formal education, precisely medical education that I will be able to truly help. I would like to be part of the solution not just the observer to those experiencing the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Including other cancer patients like my father was, and the elderly Alzheimer’s patients I was serving at the facility. Becoming a physician will fulfill my personal and career goals. My multicultural background and different life experiences have helped me become a person that adapts easily to different environments and cultural backgrounds something that I believe will help me serve better as a future doctor.

1. Early in the presentation, we touched on the importance and relevance of African masks and heir meanings. What other meanings can you think of that would be a practical purpose? What other animals could be represented and what would be their representation?

2. What did you notice about the features of the sculptures that they tended to have in common? What could this signify?

3. Reread the section of your textbook on Romanticism then compare similarities and differences between Theodore Gericault’s The Raft of Medusa and Eugene Delacroix’s The Death of Sardanapalus (pp. 444-446). Take note of the size of both of these pieces. The book has its interpretation of what the paintings were trying to portray but what do you think the artists were trying to accomplish by displaying such despair and violence on such a large scale?

4. Choose another work of art in your textbook (anywhere except for Chapter 19) that depicts desperation and despair. Describe in detail the image(s) in the piece you chose, and compare them to Theodore Gericault’s The Raft of Medusa or Eugene Delacroix’s The Death of Sardanapalus. As a result the equilibrium price and continuously adjust to the vibrations and shocks from both sides of the market. The last Eid holidays about half a million visitors came to dubai to celebrate Eid. As a demand for hotel rooms and restaurant meals increased during that period. While was a significant increase in price for an average hotel room, restaurant meal price did not increase at all. Based on the above background answer the following two questions. (2.5x 2)marks

(A) use comparative statics as a tool to analyze the hotel room market. Compare and contrast the relative elasticities of demand and supply of hotel rooms. What are the underlying factors that account for elasticities of demand and supply for any good or product? List and explain at least three factors for each of elasticity of demand and elasticity of supply.

(B) Evaluate the market for restaurant meals using the comparative statics as a tool to analyze the market dynamics. In the face of an increasing demand why the restaurant price didn’t rise ?

This question deals with the concept of opportunity costs and the comparative advantage. John can produce 20 cups or 30 plates in a day and Peter can produce 15 cups and 45 plates . (1+1+1+2=5)

(B) Strategic decisions are made based on the evaluation of comparative advantages. In this example , identify the respective comparative advantages of two persons.

(C) clearly analyze how these two individuals can make gains from trade and identify the age of possible negotiations and predict the outcomes. Will the combined daily output of cups and plates increase if they trade and specialize? Provide justifications for your conclusions.

(D) A manager has to make optimum utilization of scare resources, and in process he has to make difficult decisions about allocating resources, such as man power (skilled and Un skilled workers), space, and financial resources. Using specific examples, clearly explain the concept of opportunity cost is used by a manager to make his decisions to maximize profits for his organization.
