Unfair Labor Practice Law Suit

On July 29, 2016, Delphi Golf, Inc. and the union entered a collective bargaining agreement. The majority of the
company’s employees covered by the agreement had not designated the union as their collective-bargaining
representative. The agreement contains a union-security clause requiring employees who are members in
good standing of the union to maintain their membership in good standing and all other employees to become
members of the union on or before the 31st day following the effective date of the agreement or the date of their
hire. The union instructed Delphi Golf, Inc. not to employ three servers for restaurant positions in the company
because the servers were not members of the union. The company is an employer within the meaning of
Section 2(2) of the act engaged in commerce within the meaning of Section 2(6) and (7) of the act.
Explain in a two-page essay the process and steps your company will have to take to defend this action. Explain the
defenses to the action and if the union employees have valid claims. What actions by the employer should have been done
differently, if at all? What actions by the union should have been done differently? Who, if anyone, is liable?

Economics of Organization and Strategy

For this final SLP, imagine that your business has become successful and you are now considering expanding the scope of your company. Carefully

review all of the required background materials, and then write a three-page paper answering the following questions. Make sure to cite at least

one of the required readings for each of your answers:
1. If you were to engage in horizontal integration, which of your direct competitors would you decide to acquire? Overall, do you think

horizontal integration is the best long-run plan for your business if it is successful?
2. Do you think your business should vertically integrate over time? Should you engage in backwards vertical integration, forward vertical

integration, both, neither? Explain your reasoning.
3. How about diversification/conglomerate strategy? Any advantage to diversifying your business? Discuss unrelated diversification and

related diversification and whether or not these strategies might be good for your business. Explain your reasoning.
To start off this module, take a look at the following video for a relatively comprehensive overview of several concepts from this module. This

video is a little longer than previous videos you’ve watched for this class, but covers very useful information such as vertical and horizontal

integration strategies as well as conglomerate (diversification) strategy:
Holden, P. (2011). Business integration – vertical, horizontal and conglomerate. St. Lawrence College. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG9xNElFzRk

Now delve a little deeper into this subject with the following chapter that will reinforce what you’ve learned in the video plus some important

additional concepts such as transaction costs:

The Future of Omni-Channel Retail: Emily Culp of Rebecca Minkoff

The Future of Omni-Channel Retail: Emily Culp of Rebecca Minkoff

What to do:
Watch “The Future of Omni-Channel Retail: Emily Culp of Rebecca Minkoff”

This is a short video (about 18 minutes) explaining how Rebecca Minkoff strategically integrates multiple marketing channels. A link to the video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR6wGM_WAvk

Think about examples from your own life of how a company used omni-channel marketing to influence your purchasing behavior and answer these two questions.

1. Give a specific example of how a company effectively used multiple channels to influence a purchase you made.

2. Give a specific example of how a company lost (or almost lost) you as a customer (for at least one purchase experience) because they did not effectively use omni-channel marketing strategies.

Knowledge-Based Pay

Knowledge-Based Pay

Each technique used to develop an internal pay structure has advantages and disadvantages. In recent years there has been a lively debate over the efficacy of skill-based pay structures. Employees seem to embrace the concept, but several significant implementations have ended with the plans being discontinued. Using the text as a base and then seeking out other sources on skill-based pay, perhaps your own experiences as well, present your observations.

Please read chapter 6, which presents advantages and disadvantages of knowledge or skill-based pay.

Please answer the following question:
1.After reviewing both the advantages and disadvantages, which do you find more compelling and why?

Please write the paper between 450-600 words in length

ADVANCE TECHNICAL WRITING

ADVANCE TECHNICAL WRITING

WRTG 393 students,
Writing assignment #1 will be an instruction manual.
Instruction manuals explain to readers how to operate something or make something. Helpful
resources on how to write an instruction manual include the following:
 “Instructions, procedures, and policies,” a chapter from Tebeaux and Dragga in
eReserves
 Jerz’s literacy page features a fine set of tips on writing instructions. Please click here to
view the site.
 David McMurrey has a very helpful website on writing instructions. Please click here to
view the webpage.
 Wikibooks has an excellent guide to writing instructions. Please click here to view the
site.
Requirements
The instruction manual will include the following sections or features:
 Title Page
 Overview or Introduction with necessary background information such as time needed,
skill ability, relevance, context, stage setting, etc.
 Equipment and materials needed (as appropriate)
 Definitions (as appropriate)
 Instructions
o provide a graphic for steps of the instructions that need a graphic
o at least three graphics should be original
o graphics borrowed from other sources need to be cited in APA format
o all graphics should be labeled
 Warnings or statements of caution (as appropriate)
 Page numbers for all pages of the manual
In addition, please note that the manual should be single-spaced.
Overall, chapter 10 from Tebeaux and Dragga should be read thoroughly as you begin this
assignment. Different types of instructions call for different strategies. The chapter from
Tebeaux and Dragga is an excellent resource in guiding your approach.Other helpful guides on writing instructions:
 The Tech Writing Handbook by Dozuki, which is one of the resources listed in our class,
has the following:
o an appendix that provides tips in writing instructions and incorporating graphics
into instructions.
o chapter 6, “Photographing the process.”
o chapter 7, “Using Other Visuals.”
 The Mayfield Handbook, which is also one of the resources listed in our class, features
excellent tips on writing instructions.
o Section 2.8.3 of the handbook, Instructions and Procedures, will be particularly
helpful.
 Examples of instruction manuals for you to look at:
o an example of an instruction manual on setting up a VPN
o a video instruction on swimming. Note how the author lists the equipment and
then proceeds to mention the steps involved. The video is over 10 minutes long.
You might just take a look at the first couple of minutes to see how he lists the
equipment and then proceeds to the steps.
Length:
There is no minimum or maximum number of words for this assignment. Your goal is to write
coherent, well designed instructions for a user.
Due Date:
The instructor will post the due date. Keep in mind that this will be a draft. It can be a very rough
draft or incomplete draft if you do not have a polished product yet.
You will receive comments from the instructor on this assignment. You will submit a final draft
of the assignment into the assignment folder after receiving comments on your first draft.

Ethical Decision Making in Difficult Situations

(Ethics slp 2).
Ethical Decisions in the Workplace
After reading your background readings, please review the following scenario and address the questions at the end.
Jerry Stevens heads up an excavation crew for the municipal utilities district in a city in Nebraska. A sewer line needs to be replaced and it has been excavated with a back-hoe. The trench is 7 feet deep. The municipality’s safety rules indicate that employees should not go into the trench without a trench box. This rule is to prevent employees from being buried if the trench walls collapse. People die every year from trench cave-ins.
The trench box won’t arrive on site for another 6 hours and the city promised residents that the sewer would be fixed by the end of the day, which now seems impossible. The City Administrator called Jerry on his cell phone and indicated that it was imperative that the sewer be fixed as soon as conceivably possible because a City Council member is served by that sewer line and will raise a fuss if it’s not fixed by the promised time.
One of the more experienced workers states, “It’s only going to take 30 minutes to dig under the pipe and loosen the fittings. We don’t need the trench box. We used to do this all the time before we were required to use one of those darn things.”
Jerry knows he’s right. He used to do it himself before the rule was put in place. Also, the soil is clearly a cohesive soil and it’s highly unlikely that it will collapse. And although there is an organizational policy to use a trench box for trenches deeper than 5 feet, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not have
Jurisdiction over municipalities in Nebraska because municipalities are political subdivisions of the State. The only entity regulating safety policies is the City’s Safety Director and he took the day off.
1. In this scenario, to what extent do you think allowing the crew into the trench without a trench box would be pushing (or exceeding) the limit?
2. Discuss any ethical grey areas in this scenario?
3. What in your mind is the right thing to do?
4. What is the value of having an ethics program (and related programs like safety programs) and what are the responsibilities of front line leaders/supervisors and the workers when they face dilemmas such as the one described?
SLP Assignment Expectations
Please take some time to review the materials and take a position on the issue. Write a 2 full page assessment of the authors’ claims, and your assessment of what might be done in a place of business to prevent the “moral amnesia” phenomenon from taking a foothold in a place of business.
Your paper should be double-spaced and in 12-point type size.
Your paper should have a separate cover page and a separate reference page. Make sure you cite your sources.
Use APA style, and proofread your paper.

NOTE: please use the following sources and books:
