Presentation or speech
explain why it is that two people, having chosen the same word, will likely have two different connotative meanings for the same word.

In response to the sexual assault and murder of 7-year old Megan Kanka by a convicted sex offender out on parole and the public uproar that
ensued, the state of New Jersey enacted “Megan’s Law.” The law, as originally passed, required sex offenders, upon their release from prison, to
register with New Jersey law enforcement authorities, who are to notify the public about their release. The public was also to be provided with
the offender’s name; a recent photograph; a physical description; a list of the offenses for which he or she was convicted; the offender’s
current address and place of employment or school; and the offender’s automobile license plate number. Currently, all 50 states and the federal
government have Megan’s laws that require sex offenders released from prison to register with local law enforcement authorities. Megan’s laws
are not uniform across states. For example, not all states require active community notification; many of them (including the U.S. government)
only make the information available to the public. Research your state’s Megan’s Law. Based on the ideal characteristics of a criminal law (see
pages 96-97 in the text), is Megan’s Law a “good” law? Discuss each characteristic as it relates to the statute. (respond with a minimum of 250
words)

Part 1:Hill Burton Act, Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA)
Respond to Discussion 1.1, and then provide a primary and follow-up posts to Discussion 1.2 and Discussion 1.3.
2. Discussion 1.1: Some of the cases that will be examined in this course are from state courts, while others have been handed down by
federal courts. Why? When is a matter “settled”?
3. Discussion 1.2: Review the Hill Burton article above under the “Review” section. Then, research newspaper articles that were written
just before, during and after the Hill Burton Act was passed. Find one news or magazine article that represents a lack of support for passage
of the law. Share your impressions of that article. What has the Hill Burton Act achieved to date? Is it still relevant or needed?
4. Discussion 1.3: Review the Solis & Guyer analysis of Moses v. Providence Hospital and Medical Centers, Inc., cited in the Review
section. Is EMTALA a needed statute? Why? Does the facility’s obligation under EMTALA end when the patient leaves the emergency department?

Provide an explanation of the important concepts that you research. Assume that you are writing for an uninformed reader that knows nothing about the topic and has not read what you read. (1) Provide an introduction that gives the background, purpose, and overview of the topic that you are reviewing, so the reader will understand what they’re reading and why. (2) Provide a body with a discussion of the topics organized with headings. (3). Provide a conclusion wrapping up the paper. See the templates in the Resources section. These are the requirements for inclusion in this week’s discussion:
– Is ‘Disaster Resilience’ a ‘National Imperative’? Why or why not? Should it be?
– What are the drivers that make resilience important and urgent?
– What is the concept of ‘managing risk’?
– What are some of the challenges to decision-making that enhances resiliency? How would progress be measured?
DO NOT list out the topics or questions and answer them. They are not meant to be all-inclusive, and your reader will not understand the context. Rather, give an overview of the author’s entire body of work, using the topics as guidelines.

Some challenges to consider would be (but are not limited to): an ethical challenge, a challenge occurring because of changes in the economy, a globalization challenge, or a challenge of organizational culture. Please request instructor approval of the challenge you would like to use as your focus before beginning your paper.
The Final Paper should, at minimum, include:
