After you have completed the Reading, and watched the videos on early childhood development (on page 122 of your Digital Book), and attachment (on page 135), post your initial response to the following questions and statements

1. Using the video on early childhood development, explain what stage the children in the video would be in according to Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development. Utilizing Piaget’s Theory, explore the specific components that pertain to the stage of development of the children in the video. Be sure to include information related to the role culture plays in development according to Piaget. Assess whether any of the specifics that apply to this stage of development were present in the video.

2. Using the same early childhood development video, illustrate how Vygotsky would explain the development of the children in the video. Be certain to include specific aspects of Vygotsky’s theory (for example: scaffolding and zone of proximal development) in your answer. Summarize the role that culture plays in development according to Vygotsky.

3. After viewing the video on attachment, determine how theorists, such as Bowlby and Erikson, would explain the scenarios. In your answer, specify how different aspects of attachment were present in the videos (for example: separation anxiety, attachment quality, temperament). Evaluate the role that culture plays regarding attachment.

Government, including the criminal justice system, is supposed to be answerable to the people. However, there are times when the “law” and the “will of the people” may conflict. This may be due to evolving social preferences that lawmakers have not yet caught up to, or it might also be due to different communities having different standards. Resolving the conflict between “doing what the law requires” and “serving the will of the people” is often not a black-and-white decision.

This week’s discussion will examine this conflict from several angles.

• Should the police have the ability to selectively enforce only those laws that the public wants to have enforced? In other words, should the police ignore offenses when the law in question is not a popular one?
• Should the police or prosecutor have the power to decide against charging a particular offender if it is clear that the local population does not want that person to be prosecuted? Provide a real or imaginary example that would illustrate this dilemma and justify your choice.
• Should the police enforce laws differently from one community to the next, if those communities express differing standards? If you agree that the community should have influence or even oversight over the local police, how can this be achieved? Using South University Online Library or the Internet, research about police agencies that utilize a community policing strategy.
• These dilemmas can affect all levels of law enforcement, but sheriffs in particular have to wrestle with it. Analyze why sheriffs should be more concerned with the “will of the people” when that will seems to be in conflict with the letter of the law?

3) How many workers does the industry employ? What percentage of these workers are women? Why do women dominate this industry? How much do

they earn? What is the minimum wage in Bangladesh? Can workers organize in unions? What hurdles do they face when they try to unionize?

5) What is the global supply chain that your company employs? Where do its products come from? Who makes them? Under what conditions?
