You are required to submit a fully referenced analytical paper of 3,000 words (excluding diagrams, figures and appendices). Examples of the Harvard system are included in your Course Notes and will be discussed further in the research methods block days.
The purpose of this term paper is to encourage you to read and assimilate some material that is new to you and then to write in an analytical style about that material. In order to answer the question, therefore, you will need to identify a range of relevant written material1. You have been handed a copy of Chapter 4 from Walker, 2007. You should read this by way of a preamble to some more reading material which you will identify yourself. You will need to read a lot of the material in order to write a good essay in response to the task set, which is essentially a literature review. Your task is to present evidence of your findings (literature review with references). There should be discussion of the literature, some analysis and presentation of conclusions on your findings within your essay. You are encouraged not to place excessive emphasis upon your own opinion. Your role involves the presentation of relevant information, its analysis and the
formulation of a critique relevant to the question set.
