Structure and Organization of the Literature Review Research Paper (2000 words)
CONTEXT
Length: 300-400 words
Questions it should answer:
• What were you trying to find out? (What is your theme and what are your aims?)
• How have you gone about it? (What are your methods?) (EbscoHost, interviews etc)
• What is the scope of your research?
• Why is this research significant and what is it ongoing relevance?
• What is your interest in it?
• What have the constraints been?
Characteristics: You must cite all sources in this section. This needs careful organization.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Length: 1200-1500 words
Questions it answer:
• What are the debates and controversies around your theme?
• What is your evaluation of (each of) of these?
And, if useful and applicable:
• What accounts are there of its causes? What is your evaluation of each of these accounts?
• What proposals are there for alleviation/further research? What is your evaluation of these?
Characteristics: You must cite all sources in this section.
You must organize this carefully, so that each paragraph talks about an aspect or a view or a perspective of the problem. In other words this section needs to be organized into sub-topics.
STATEMENT OF POSITION
Length: 200-300 words
Questions it should answer:
• In the light of what has been presented, where are you?
• Is there anything that is missing or inadequately developed?
• What possible future developments, courses of action or further research can you see?
Characteristics: This should bring together what has been said/written and look outwards to the future.

Your paper needs to include:
• A researched introduction to provide the context of the issue.
• A researched literature review of the various viewpoints that are held about this controversy. These viewpoints must be treated critically and the connections between them must be shown.
• A statement of your own position, based on the literature review above.

Required features of this paper:
• The text of your paper, with in-text citations, but excluding the abstract and the reference list, should be approx. 2000 words in length
• In addition to the text, there needs to be a cover page, an abstract, a reference list, appendices (optional) for visual and other material, all of which should conform to a named referencing style.
• You may select which referencing style you use, but you must specify clearly which one you are following.
