Module 5 Pharmaceutical Treatment of Respiratory and Cardiovascular Disorders This module is aimed at the treatment of respiratory alterations, such as asthma and COPD. It also discusses hypertension, heart failure, and other cardiovascular disorders. Each of these disorders is accompanied by symptoms caused by the physiologic changes of the disease. Pharmaceutical treatment is aimed both at treatment of the symptoms and of the underlying disease. However, noncompliance with these treatments can have serious consequences. Plan to discuss how patient education can improve treatment outcomes and compliance with treatment regimens. GOAL Analyse the relationship between pharmacologic agents and physiologic/pathologic responses of the respiratory and cardiac systems.
Apply and integrade organizational, client centered, and culturally appropriate concepts in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of medication administration for the heart failure patient. MUST HAVE IN TEXT CITATIONS “ONE SCHOLARLY” AND ONE FROM THE TEXTBOOK AND NOT OLDER THAN 5 YEARS OLD. Required Textbook is: Adams, M., Holland, N., & Urban, C. (2014). Pharmacology for nurses: A pathophysiologic approach (4th ed). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Education Inc. (Chapters 22-31 & 38-39) DISCUSSION QUESTION: Choose either hypertension of COPD. Discuss at least three symptoms caused by physiologic changes and consequences of the disease and how pharmaceutical treatments are designed to alleviate those symptoms. What are the risks and benefits of these treatments? What patient education is needed? Locate at least one scholarly website or video that discusses a hypertension or COPD medication.
