Bridesmaids the film analysis

Bridesmaids the film analysis

Order Instructions:
The 2011 release of Bridesmaids was widely reviewed in the press as a “surprise” success. In this assignment you will review the film by accessing what cultural and industry factors and expectations determined that “surprise.” As part of your review, you will analyze three professional reviews of the film.
Instructions for this assignment:

• Watch feature film Bridesmaids (available on Netflix).
• Research, on-line, three reviews of the film by known on-line publications or on-line sections of established newspapers and/or magazines. A review can also be an interview with members of the cast and/or crew.
The purpose of this assignment is to:

1) Create an argument-based analysis of three reviews of the film that speculate as to the film’s “surprise” success.

2) Provide an interpretive analysis of the film itself with regards to its press coverage; as you analyze your three reviews of the film, use examples from the film itself to make your point.

3) Construct a critical analysis of the other reviewers’ interpretation of the film—whether you agree or disagree with their perspective—to then use examples of the film as evidence to support your argument.

Things to consider in your analysis:

• What cultural and industry factors and/or expectations are reviewers citing as part of the film’s box office success?

• If you use an interview with one of the film’s principle cast or crew members, how do they describe the movie’s brand of humor, approach to comedy, approach to genre?

• How do reviewers describe the film’s “female” qualities: female performers, writers, humor, target audience, narrative themes?

At all times, avoid plot summary and instead focus on plot analysis; avoid only restating what a reviewer has already said and instead focus on your analysis of what the reviewer has said.
