JUSTIFYING RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This section although relatively short is vitally important. It sets the scene for the whole project it should contain the following elements:

• A general outline of the proposed project (at this stage the full hypothesis, statement or question chosen, is not needed nor are objectives – all these come later).

• A short background to why the project should be carried out including one or two key texts to set the theoretical basis for the study.

• Why this work should be undertaken (ie what is/has happened to make you want to carry out this project/study). It may be that this has been identified by someone else and you have been asked to carry it out. In fact you may have observed an incident that promotes a research question.

• What you intend to do with the results of the project (ie is the project worthwhile, how will the findings be used – for policy planning, to change practice etc).
LITERATURE REVIEW
This is the theoretical background for the study; it results from a thorough search of the available literature/research. It needs to be concise, focussed, logical and should concentrate on key texts. It should:

• Indicate the time span, languages and countries from which information has been gained pointing out any differences in culture.

• Indicate the inclusion/exclusion criteria for the literature that is reviewed

• Present the literature as a logical critical discussion, if necessary use sub-headings for clarification (if sub headings are used this should be indicated at the start of the review). Do Not use 1.1, 1.2 with headings. At this level of study, descriptive accounts of the Literature review does not carry much weighting with the overall marks.

• Critically analyse and appraise the literature in two ways, consider firstly the data/theory proposed, secondly whether the methods used to gather the data where appropriate. If not sure, consult critical appraisal skills programme (CASP) for the type of paper being reviewed.

• Conclude in a way that identifies the issues which arise from the literature and leads into, or suggest the need for the proposed study and justifying your own study aim. At the end of your literature review, you should clearly identify a gap(s) in our knowledge of the topic, so that your own study can (hopefully) then provide this knowledge through its findings

METHODOLOGY
This section is the formal description of how/what you plan to do, it should be sub-divided as follows:

• Hypothesis, Statement or Question.
This is the formal statement of what the study aims to achieve, projects can utilise any one of the above.
• Include at this point any aims and objectives formulated, but take care not to have too many. Once the aim is clear, then consider the most appropriate methodological approach.

• Study Design
This is the theoretical justification for the study. It is important to present a logical argument for the approach chosen. It should identify the epistemological base chosen and the paradigm in which the study is to be situated. Application to practice or specific professional discipline is essential to demonstrate relevance of the study.

• Method of Data Collection
This section discusses and justifies the method of data collection selected. This should include consideration of the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen method(s). Should it be decided that more than one method is necessary, state whether a multi method approach, or triangulation (much more interlinked than multi-method – (see Bryman 2012) will be used. However, for studies that use more than one method it is suggested that the whole study is referred to, but only one method is presented in detail for the assignment.

• Design of the Instrument
This is the logical progression from the previous sub-section. The discussion should develop demonstrating how the instrument for data collection will be devised. A clear understanding of the stages of development and administration must be evident. However, there is no need to append the actual questionnaire, schedule etc. It is strongly recommended that you search for existing measurement instruments first that you can adapt before you go and develop a new instrument.
• Reliability and Validity
For any project to provide acceptable and useful data the issues of reliability and validity must be considered. Whether these concepts are utilised or rejected will depend on the epistemological base of the study. This section should illustrate understanding of both of these concepts and/or alternatives. Application of these theoretical concepts is essential.
For Qualitative studies, the equivalent terms and requirements are also essential.
• Sample
As with the previous section, sampling strategies are affected by the epistemological base. Justify the choice of sampling frame and sample, both in theoretical terms and in relation to the proposed study.

evaluation of the process and procedures.

• Data Analysis
Indicate how analysis of the data might take place, but remember that in a research assignment like this only the process and procedures can be outlined. It is important to demonstrate an understanding of the type of information that may be collected, and the application of particular type of data sets. Make sure that this section relates to the study’s aim and objectives.

• Ethical Issues
The principles of ethics must be applied to all research projects. Give a short discussion of the main points considered, basing the argument on an ethical model, and how it is to be interpreted in the proposed study. Indicate how and where ethical approval will be sought. (NB You do not need to obtain ethical approval at this stage)

• Conclusion
This is a short section reaffirming the need for such a study, justifying the methodology, use of findings from the project and discussing the limitations of the project itself.

• Reference List
All references should be appended to the literature review, please use the Harvard system.

Impact assessment

I need help with a research project 4000 words for Masters “Impact assessment” and its impact on different stakeholders. I chose public it is the next part of presentation we did “the impact of crossrail. this time we have to focus on the impact on different stakholders which involve title, introduction, background and rationale, aim and objectives, literature review search strategy methodology, conclusion and recommendation.

This is a data analysis. This takes the form of a series of questions that should be answered by carrying out appropriate analytical procedures using SPSS and writing a short report of the findings, illustrated by graphs and charts. The whole assignment will be about the data that I will upload.

Tylenol Research, Muddle

Please research the Tylenol cyanide case from 1982 and how Johnson and Johnson handled the crisis.

Please also read the following: “Patients versus Profits at Johnson & Johnson: Has the Company Lost its Way?”

While researching Tylenol, consider the difference in approach the company may have taken in today’s media environment (24/7 news cycle, social media, etc.). With this in mind, complete the Muddle assignment below.

Muddle

You work in Corporate Communications at a large, publicly-traded pharmaceutical company, Muddle and Company. One of Muddle’s most successful drugs, Arthroxix, an arthritic pain medication, is marketed in over 80 countries with worldwide sales totaling $2.5 billion last year alone. Several former Olympic athletes, now in their 60s but still very popular, are the spokespersons for the product and are featured in the advertising and marketing campaign.

While researching this particular class of drugs amidst claims of digestive track and other related problems, the FDA unexpectedly found a higher than normal incidence of stroke and heart problems among patients taking Arthroxix, though the incidence of digestive track problems was very low. Researchers at Muddle have also discovered the correlation between the drug and a higher rate of heart attack or stroke in patients. To date, three Arthroxix users have died from heart attacks allegedly brought on by the drug. The families of the victims have begun litigation procedures against Muddle.

The drug continues to be touted as safe and effective among many physicians, and has been positively reviewed in the Journal of American Medicine. But now the EMEA (European Medicines Agency, Europe’s equivolent to the FDA) is conducting its own research on the drug, which is sold widely throughout Europe. Due to the increased scrutiny by officials in the U.S. as well as Europe, and the discovery by Muddle researchers of higher rates of heart attack and stroke in patients, some members of your crisis team are urging a recall, while others think it is too premature and believe a recall to be too extreme.

Choose one course of action and develop a crisis communication plan as if you were the head of the Corporate Communications office at Muddle. If the crisis team decides to keep the drug on the market, what will your statements be to your constituents? Or, if the crisis team decides to recall the drug, what would your message be and how will you communicate it? Describe the communication vehicles and develop potential Q&A. Include a description of the steps you intend to take, and a list of who is on your crisis team and their roles and responsibilities.

OSINT Final Project

Assignment Instructions
This is an OSINT project.
1. It has been determined that over 90% of the raw intelligence data obtained by professional intelligence organizations is gained through open source intelligence collection.
2. The intelligence cycle is formally used by just about every organization in the world to one degree or another. This includes the Boy Scouts (national office in Washington, DC developing lobbying efforts.) and world religions, not to mention the FSB, the FBI, the US Department of Agriculture and so forth. Intelligence is not, and never has been, a function limited to military use. Intelligence is a vital force multiplier for every organization.
3. Open Source collection demands that collector knows where and how to look. Open Source collection is not limited to print or electronic sources. It also involves access to any openly promulgated information.
4. The main portion of this assignment requires that you choose a target organization and gather open source data on it. Choose a small organization. Choose an organization you can research within the time limits of a semester. Once you begin collecting raw data, then determine what your main point of emphasis will be. Assume I am your boss, or your client. Assume I have assigned you this project: to learn about organization X. You choose the reason after you gather raw data since I do not know, nor do you perhaps, what exactly you will be able to gather in the few weeks assigned to this course. I want you thinking as an adversary. What information does our organization present that others can gather to harm us. In researching, don’t forget about the CEOs and their families, satellite photos, blueprints, activities, etc. What you find out is information that an adversary can use to their benefit.
5. Here is the process you should follow:
*identify a target organization you wish to investigate.
*begin collecting raw open source intel data on that target.
*the target may be one of personal or professional interest to you.
*use as many possible open source conduits as possible.
*do not just stick to books or the internet. Interview. Search. Use satellite photos, search tax records, etc.
*collect and then organize your data.
*determine your approach to this target based on how much data you have collected.
*analyze your data: what does it tell you?
*compose a PPT briefing directed to me that explains your findings, and that is supported by your raw data and analysis. Accompany your PPT with a word document that supports your analysis and any visual collection that you accumulate.
*upload this briefing to the assignments section by the end of Week 8.
6. This assignment should be a combination of at least 15 pages in length (Word Document & PPT) with supporting graphics (maps, images, tables, social media inserts, etc) that lend support to your narrative (again satellite photos, blueprints, etc). Do not substitute graphic heavy PPT slides in place of detailed analysis and text. You should accompany your PPT presentation with a summary analysis of your findings in a word document or provide the text in the ‘notes’ section that accompany each individual PPT slide – all in proper Turabian formatting. The grading critique rubric is attached below.

Observational Research Report

An outline for the paper will be provided as well as the two necessary articles to reference and summarize in the literature review section.

This is an observational research report for a study we conducted in class. It is based on a 1976 study by Jenni & Jenni. We went around campus and observed how men and women held their bags, looking for gender differences in how people carried their bags. The paper is to be APA style, an outline has been provided in the attachments – labelled “APA Style Observational Research Report”. Thetwo articles attached “Jenni 1976” and “Jenni & Jenni 1976” must be read and summarized in the literature review section of the paper. They are not excessively long. Also attached is the results from our observational research and a coding sheet to identify what the “Data Results” means.
